The morning sun streamed through the blinds of Kaito's tiny apartment. Empty instant ramen cups and coffee-stained mugs littered the desk like trophies of an all-night battle. His laptop glowed, the third chapter of One Piece proudly pinned to the top of the trending board in the "Adventure" genre.

Kaito stared at the numbers, blinking in disbelief. He never expected a story written from memory—chapter by chapter—to draw this much attention. The people of this world, so unfamiliar with One Piece, were hungry for it. Hungry for Luffy. For the Grand Line. For adventure.
He sipped what remained of his cold coffee. It was bitter. But his grin was sweet.
"Alright... Zoro time."
But before his fingers could hit the keyboard, his inbox pinged.
[Webnovel Editorial Team] — Follow-Up to 'One Piece' Submission

Subject: Publishing Opportunity for "One Piece"
Dear Kaito Ren,
We at Webnovel were blown away by the engagement your story "One Piece" has received in just three chapters. It's rare to see a new author gain such traction in so little time.
We'd like to offer you a signed author contract with Webnovel. The contract includes monetary compensation, early feature placement, and editorial support.
If you're interested, let's schedule a virtual meeting to discuss terms.
Best regards,
Mira (Senior Editor, Webnovel Adventure Team)
Kaito stared at the screen for a long moment.
A contract.
A real publishing contract.
His heart thumped against his ribs. He should be overjoyed—this was the kind of chance most aspiring authors could only dream of.
But something didn't sit right.
"If I sign with them... they'll own the story."
He clicked the attached draft. As expected, it had clauses. Copyright transfer. Editorial control. The power to change names, settings, even characters if deemed necessary. Luffy could become "Lucas," a troubled teenager in a steam-punk airship story.
"No. Absolutely not."
Kaito closed the tab, hard.
This story—One Piece—wasn't just a novel. It was the soul of a generation. It saved his life during the loneliest years. It was never meant to be chopped into marketing pieces by people who didn't understand it.
He took a deep breath, then typed his reply.

Hi Mira,
Thank you for the offer. I'm honored by the interest.
However, I'll have to respectfully decline.
This story is extremely important to me, and I want to preserve its integrity exactly as it is.
I will continue publishing independently.
Best regards,
Kaito Ren
He hit send. A part of him wondered if he had just thrown away his one big shot.
But the stronger part—the part that saw Luffy grinning at a storm, Zoro facing death with a blade between his teeth—knew this was the right decision.
"Let's bring in the Pirate Hunter."
[CHAPTER CONTENT: "The Pirate Hunter"]
The town was quiet.
Too quiet.
Monkey D. Luffy walked down the dusty street of Shells Town, his straw hat casting a small shadow. He was looking for a swordsman. A strong one.
"Someone tough enough to be my first crewmate," he said, grinning.
Then he heard it.
A whip. A cry. Chains rattling.
At the center of a military courtyard stood a man tied to a post—arms stretched behind him, sunburnt and bruised. His green hair stood out like a signal flare.
"That's him," Luffy said.
Roronoa Zoro.
Feared as a bounty hunter. Hated by Marines. Known for taking down dozens of criminals with his signature three-sword style.
Luffy jumped onto the wall, ignoring the shouts of guards.
"Hey! You! Wanna be my crewmate?" he asked, pointing.
Zoro opened one eye. "What are you, an idiot?"
"I'm Luffy! I'm gonna be King of the Pirates!" he declared.
Zoro spat blood. "Then you're definitely an idiot."
Luffy laughed.
Meanwhile, in the Marine HQ, a corrupt officer named Helmeppo plotted.
"That pirate freak won't get in my way. Execute Zoro tomorrow, like I promised."
But Luffy had other plans.
By nightfall, he snuck in, broke Zoro's bonds, and threw him a sword.
Zoro grabbed it, eyes flashing.
"If I'm gonna die, I'd rather do it fighting."
He spun, slashing down Marines with a single strike. Two more swords joined his grip.
Three blades. One man.
Luffy punched through walls, stretching his arms like cannonballs.
When it was over, the Marines were in ruins—and Luffy stood beside a newly freed swordsman.
"So," Luffy said, "still wanna join me?"
Zoro grinned, sword resting on his shoulder.
"I'll join you. But don't get in my way. I have my own dream, too."
Kaito stared at the last line with a full heart. He had goosebumps.
Zoro's first appearance.
This was history.
He uploaded the chapter.

"Three blades. One man." I got chills.
Kaito leaned back in his chair. He didn't know what the future held. He wasn't rich, or famous, or powerful. Just a lonely man with a memory.
But that memory was enough to move hearts.
The story would go on.
"Next up…" he whispered, eyes gleaming. "Nami."
