Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: A Day for Two

The morning sun spilled golden light across the mountain trail as Sovann and Elira set out together, a woven basket swinging from Sovann's hand.

"Where are we going?" Elira asked, her violet eyes bright with curiosity.

Sovann grinned. "I thought we could find the wildflowers by the river. They're perfect this time of year."

Elira's smile was wide. "Like a date?"

Sovann's cheeks warmed. "If you want it to be."

They walked side by side, the forest alive with birdsong and the rustling of leaves. Sovann showed her how to spot the sweetest berries and where to find the softest moss to sit on.

By the river, Elira tried to catch a fish with her hands—an adventure she insisted on, though Sovann knew the water was too cold and the fish too quick.

Suddenly, she slipped on a mossy stone and fell backwards with a splash, sending water spraying all over Sovann.

He laughed, shaking droplets from his hair. "Well, that's one way to start a date!"

Elira's laughter bubbled up, bright and free. "You're soaked!"

"I'm soaked," he agreed, "but happier than ever."

They sat together on the bank, picking wildflowers and weaving them into crowns. Sovann clumsily made one for Elira, who giggled and placed it on his head.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in soft pinks and purples, Sovann reached for her hand.

"Thank you for today," he said softly.

Elira squeezed his fingers gently. "Thank you for showing me this world."

They stayed like that, two hearts quietly discovering each other beneath the endless sky.
