Yao Mountain Island
When Qiao Yuxian arrived, it was just time for a meal.
Mr. Huo sat at the head of the table and asked Qiao Yuxian to sit next to him.
Yuan Wei sat close to Qiao Yuxian.
"Yu Xian, try this," Mr. Huo said, "It's a new dish I've been working on, tomato stirred into banana puree."
Qiao Yuxian looked at the elegantly plated dish with dark tomatoes and banana puree in front of her, hesitant to pick up her chopsticks.
Yuan Wei looked at her sister but didn't move either.
Mr. Huo saw her hesitate and urged, "Try it, they say it tastes good."
"Who are 'they'?" Qiao Yuxian asked.
"Them," Mr. Huo pointed to the people standing around.
Qiao Yuxian also looked at them.
The people standing around bowed their heads without saying a word.
"Is it tasty?" Qiao Yuxian asked.
A row of people stood there, heads down, under Qiao Yuxian's gaze, until after a while, some of them shook their heads.
Yuan Wei pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.
