The knight who had assisted them was named Pete. He was a remarkably skilled knight with striking looks and golden hair. Despite being a recent recruit, he had quickly earned the noble's trust. Pete provided Austin and his mother with shelter in the very house where he had spent his childhood after the passing of his parents.
Two days later, when Austin and his mother were spotted at the gate of the city of Nair,
Today, Austin was alone at home as his mother had gone out to search for a job. Austin was not a very social child. He typically stayed indoors, writing in his diary and waiting for his mother's return. Occasionally, he would venture out to sit in a park, but he never engaged in conversation with anyone (as he had in his old town).
The knight, Pete, came to visit them that day. Although he had duty, he had taken the day off. Austin informed him that his mother was not home. Pete simply said, "Okay." And began to leave ,However, he suddenly turned back and asked Austin, "Where did you live before coming here?" He posed this question expecting a straightforward answer, but Austin was different. He had matured beyond his years due to the difficult experiences he had endured. Austin replied that he "didn't know."
The guard then asked Austin about his blessing. He replied, "I can turn into a dog." The guard felt pity for the boy but continued his inquiries. He then asked about his mother's blessing. Austin responded that she "could increase the growth of plants." Pete thought Austin's blessing aws too weak and his mother's blessing was of no use to anyone here how they would survive. Then, Austin, showing an unexpected assertiveness, said, "It isn't fair to only ask questions. What is your blessing?" Pete replied that he "could cut anything with his sword if he had touched that thing before." Pete left after a bit more conversation with Austin.
As evening approached, Austin began to feel increasingly worried about his mother's prolonged absence. Even if Austin wasn't a emotional person he carried a deep longing for his mother.
