Chapter 91 - Chapter 90

[Correct, first there is something you need to know]

[Systems do not exist as real entities]

"You don't exist, you say? Are you some kind of manifestation of my powers?" asked Kaito, remembering how even when his connection to the system had been cut, he could still use his abilities.

[That is right, fragments of divinity represent absolute power, it is impossible for you or anyone to fully control them at this point. The system works as an intermediary between divinity and the user, manifesting that power in a way that can be managed]

[Also, all systems are connected to the central system, which manages the information of every Lord. However, if necessary, a system can cut that connection]

"You cut the connection?" asked Kaito, knowing that the system would not mention something like that without reason.

[That is right]

The answer confirmed his suspicions, but only generated more questions.

"Why? I don't understand anything. If you want me to figure something out, explain it more simply."

[...]

[Then I'll get straight to the point]

[God died. When that happened, everything that made up his being scattered throughout the universe. Humans discovered this source of power and called it fragments of divinity. With them, they created different worlds dedicated only to entertainment. The Tower of Worlds is the point from which one can access each of them. Although the fragments of divinity were used to form the complete worlds, the highest concentrations are found in key places. By completing missions, you obtain part of those fragments, which then transform into rewards for the Lord and other uses]

"So the final goal of all this is to become a god by absorbing more fragments of divinity?"

[I'm not sure]

"I thought you'd know the purpose of all this."

[Systems are only intermediaries, we have the information necessary to assist the host and nothing else]

"Although everything you said doesn't really seem related to making me stronger," joked Kaito.

[...]

"I see, you shouldn't know it," Kaito deduced after noticing the reaction. "That's also the reason you cut the connection? No, that wouldn't make sense... then, are you an error?... No, I don't think a system like this could have errors without being fixed. And the only one with an error ends up with me?... then the error happened because you connected to me?"

While thinking, he realized something he had overlooked.

"Wait... if you're only an intermediary, how do you have a personality? It even evolves over time. That makes no sense. If your final form is to disappear once I learn to use the fragments on my own, why do you seem more human every time? There has to be a reason."

Kaito thought for a moment until one word came to his mind.

"Synchronization... you said it before. I don't need to learn if you simply synchronize with me. Then, your final evolution is to reach a form that can completely synchronize with me."

At that instant, everything clicked in his head.

"So you're part of my consciousness, right?"

Yes, if the system was truly a separate entity, merging with it later would be difficult. But if it had been part of him from the beginning, everything made much more sense.

It also explained why it had more information than the other systems: because Kaito had that information. He was a reincarnator, and that was also the reason the connection with the central system had been cut.

And besides...

"That's why your personality annoys me so much," said Kaito with a tired smile.

[My personality is perfectly normal, and yes, your assumptions are correct]

[Based on the information inside your mind and the system's records, I reached those conclusions]

[The official records say: "And in the end, God died, spreading his ashes across all countless worlds." But there is a contradiction. Worlds born only from fragments of divinity, without anyone guiding them, should be chaotic. In addition, the energy concentration in those worlds is identical to ours, which should be impossible]

"What?" asked Kaito, confused.

[In short, the use of divinity by a god is very different from its use by other beings. The worlds that should have been born from chaos should not have control over that energy. However, all show an identical concentration. That can only mean they were created by someone, or someones, who used divinity consciously]

"I see... wasn't that easy to explain? So, those creators, are they a problem?"

[No, they are far above us]

[If those worlds were created by beings who manipulated fragments of divinity, then it could only have happened after the death of their God. We can assume that this world and all others within the Tower of Worlds were created by them. However, in this world, there is one exception to that rule, something that, instead of having a similar energy concentration to the rest, as if it were created by those creators, is much greater, clearly made by the original God]

"Is it me?" asked Kaito calmly, realizing it.

[That's right. Your soul is the thing with the highest concentration of divinity in this entire universe, which, at least according to my analysis, indicates that you come from the world created directly by God. Based on that, and the fact that every world you visit represents stories from your past life, it means that the humans from your old world created these fictional realities. As for why they created fictional worlds instead of something more useful, my theory is that they no longer needed to]

[The most likely theory is that humans reached maximum development, conquering the universe and creating technology that solved all their needs. They lived in a complete utopia. And when they obtained the power to create worlds, they simply decided to use it for entertainment]

"Do you think with this divinity I could return to my previous world?"

[...]

[I cannot perceive any connection between divinity and the original worlds of its creators]

Kaito understood what the system meant.

Either the entire world where he was born had been destroyed, or it simply no longer existed.

"I see..." he murmured, not knowing what else to say.

[You have more urgent problems]

"The creatures that destroyed Koneko's world?" said Kaito, focusing his mind again.

[That's right. The one responsible is absorbing all the divinity from the worlds. And although for now this place is protected, eventually it will find a way to reach it]

"Can it access higher worlds using divinity?" asked Kaito, imagining it came from a dimension inside the tower, which should make reaching this place impossible.

[You are forgetting something]

[This world is also a construction of those creators]

Kaito fell silent. He had lived here for so long that he already considered it a real place, forgetting that it was also part of the stories of his previous life.

[Do not worry about that. Even if all these worlds are based on stories, they were created using the creator's divinity. They are completely real]

"I see... even if the story is long, most of it doesn't really affect me, nor can I change it, so... the important thing stays the same," he said finally, looking up.

"We have to become stronger than whoever is destroying the worlds."

What, you didn't understand anything? Makes sense. After all, it's a conversation between the protagonist, who barely understands what's going on and asks things out of order, and the system, which only gives technical answers. Even he himself makes guesses sometimes.

I could have explained everything in a more organized way, giving all the information in sequence and with precise details, but that would be fake, because that's not how it actually happened, the protagonist doesn't act that way.

So, to make it easier, here's a chronological summary of this chapter, a short version that explains everything clearly.

Background:

God created the universe Kaito comes from. Then, for some reason, that God died.

His fragments scattered, and the people from Kaito's original universe gathered them. With those fragments, they created new worlds based on fictional stories, including both the world where Kaito is now and all those that exist within the Tower of Worlds.

Over time, that universe was also destroyed.

Currently, someone is traveling through all the universes inside the Tower of Worlds, destroying worlds to absorb the divinity of each one.

It's worth noting that all this information was reconstructed by the system and Kaito, combining memories, data, and assumptions. So, if you're feeling picky and wonder how they know any specific detail, feel free to ask and I'll explain how they figured it out based on the information they already had.

System:

There exists a central system that oversees all others, but Kaito's system severed its connection with that core.

The purpose of systems is to act as intermediaries: they handle divinity, shape it, and turn it into things that Lords can use, such as skills, items, towers, rewards, and more.

However, that function won't last forever. The final goal is for Lords to learn to handle divinity on their own. The most practical way to achieve that is for the system to learn first, and then merge with its respective Lord, transferring that knowledge.

That's why, to ensure compatibility in that fusion, each system is actually a replica of its Lord's consciousness. Because of that, Kaito's system retains his memories, and by combining them with the internal information of systems, it managed to uncover most of the data presented in this chapter.

It sounds complicated, but it's really not that much. Besides, all this is just context. Neither the dead God nor Kaito's original universe will have an important role in the story. It's simply part of the background.
