Chapter 28 - The Lock-In

[Scene: Toast of Royals – Boardroom | 11:00 a.m.]

Trisha walked into the Toast of Royals boardroom like it was a battlefield dressed in espresso and leather. Her expression? Controlled, cool, unreadable.

Reeva was already there—seated, back straight, arms crossed, gaze sharp as ever. She looked like she was ready to sign deals or destroy feelings. Possibly both.

Before either of them could speak, Arjun popped his head in through the heavy wooden door.

Arjun (grinning like a criminal): "Ladies… so sorry but… there's no board meeting."

Both Trisha and Reeva blinked.

Arjun (smug): "It was a setup. We needed you both in the same room. Talking. Fighting. Screaming. Loving. I don't care. Just… deal with this."

He gave them a lazy salute.

Arjun: "Bye."

Click. The door slammed shut. Then locked. From outside.

Trisha stood up. Marched to the door. Tried the knob.

Trisha: "Are you serious? He LOCKED us in?!"

Reeva (mocking): "What, scared to be in a room with me now?"

Trisha (turning): "I'm not scared of you. I just don't like being manipulated."

Reeva: "Then maybe you shouldn't swipe on Tinder while you're inside someone."

Trisha flinched. A beat of silence.

Trisha (snapping): "You know what, Reeva? I've said I was sorry. A hundred times in my head, even if not to your face."

Reeva (cold): "Yeah, your silence was deafening. Real poetic."

Trisha: "It was supposed to be casual! No feelings, no drama, no this."

Reeva (bitter): "Well I caught feelings. Sorry for breaking your precious contract terms."

Trisha: "That's not what I meant—"

Reeva: "You never mean anything, Trix. You just act. Then run. Always."

Trisha (voice rising): "Because everyone I've ever loved has left. You think Neha just walked away for fun?"

Reeva: "I know she left because you were 'too available'. Newsflash: that's not a crime. That's love, Trisha!"

Trisha (laughing bitterly): "Yeah? Well it cost me everything. So now I hold back. I lock up. Because it's easier than being left like trash."

Reeva (hurt): "So you push me away instead? While still kissing me like I'm the only thing that calms your chaos?"

Trisha: "Because you ARE."

Reeva (softly, bitter): "Then why am I not enough?"

Silence.

The kind that bends the walls and thins the air.

Trisha stepped forward, eyes glassy but defiant.

Trisha: "You are. You always were."

Reeva shook her head, looking away.

Trisha (voice cracking): "I love you, Reeva."

Reeva froze.

Trisha (whispered, but burning): "I love you. Like an idiot. Like a girl who doesn't know how to not self-sabotage. But I do."

The air went still.

Reeva blinked—once, then again. She looked at Trisha like someone watching the tide finally admit it missed the shore.

But before she could speak—

[Scene: Outside the Boardroom | Reeva's Cabin – Same time]

Arjun was pacing like a madman, biting his nail.

Arjun (muttering): "They've either killed each other… or kissed. Or both."

Tanvi was sitting on the edge of Reeva's desk, legs swinging, sipping a coffee she didn't even like.

Tanvi: "Maybe they're talking civilly."

Yashika (smirking): "And maybe you're not clearly eyeing me every five seconds."

Tanvi turned beet red. Faked a cough. Sipped again.

Arjun (noticing): "Ohhh. I see what's happening."

Tanvi (defensive): "Nothing is happening."

Yashika (teasing): "Yet."

They all chuckled.

Arjun (sighing): "Well… my matchmaking career either just peaked or I'm about to get kicked by Louboutin heels."

He grabbed his phone.

Arjun: "I'll give them some privacy."

He nodded toward Tanvi and Yashika with a sly smile.

Arjun (walking out): "You two… stay here. Guard the door. Or flirt. Whatever."

Tanvi (softly): "Shut up, Monty."

Yashika (smiling): "He's not wrong though."

They shared a look. Not loud. Not dramatic. Just soft.

Two women in the same orbit, slowly drifting closer.

Back Inside the Boardroom…

Trisha stood still. Reeva stared. Her face unreadable.

Reeva (quietly): "Say it again."

Trisha (barely breathing): "I love you."

Reeva: "Then stop running."

The lock clicked from outside.

But neither of them moved.

Trisha stood like a statue—hands in fists, chest rising and falling like she'd just sprinted through an emotional minefield.

Reeva didn't speak. She just stared.

Not with rage anymore.

Not with sarcasm or bitterness.

But with this deep, trembling confusion.

Reeva (quietly):"You said it like you meant it."

Trisha (soft, trembling):"Because I did."

The words hung heavy between them.

Trisha:"I meant it the first time you smirked at me at that award night like you could break me.I meant it every time you argued with me like it was foreplay.I meant it every hour I stayed away from Udaipur trying to pretend I could forget you."

She stepped closer, eyes never leaving Reeva's.

Trisha:"Every day, every hour, every minute, every damn second… I missed you, Reeva."

A tiny breath hitched in Reeva's throat.

Reeva (barely audible):"Then why didn't you come back?"

Trisha (honest):"Because I thought I'd ruin you. Like I ruin everything."

Silence.

The quiet wasn't awkward anymore. It was sacred.

Reeva took a slow step forward. Then another.

They were toe to toe now. All that sharp sarcasm, all that distance, crumbled.

Reeva (softly):"You didn't ruin me.You made me feel something I didn't think I could."

Trisha (whispered):"I'm scared, Reeves."

Reeva:"So am I.But I'd rather be scared with you than strong without you."

They didn't rush.

No crashing kiss.

No dramatic music.

Just a slow, hesitant lean-in.

Their foreheads touched first. Then noses brushed. Then finally… lips.

Soft.Unhurried.Intentional.

A kiss that said: We're still healing… but I'm here. And I'm not leaving this time.

[Outside the Boardroom – Reeva's Cabin Doorframe]

Arjun stood against the wall, peeking through the narrow boardroom glass.

He saw them—saw it happen.

The way Trisha held Reeva's face with such careful reverence. The way Reeva didn't pull away.

Arjun (whispering to himself, smiling):"Well… damn."

Behind him, the faint sound of two coffee mugs clinking and low laughter floated out of Reeva's office.

He didn't turn back.

He just watched two women who had been building walls finally tear them down.

And for once… he didn't need to say a word.
