Chapter 615 - Chapter 615: Settling the Score

Hello I'm back, thy leg is healed but I don't have molars anymore.

===BREAK===

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Eula took the initiative to bring up the agreement she had made with Shao Yun over a month ago—namely, to completely settle the grudge between the two of them.

However, she felt a little embarrassed to say it outright in front of Lumine and Paimon.

"That, um… right, are you free tonight? About that thing I mentioned to you before—I think now is the right time to bring it to an end."

Shao Yun looked at Eula's unusually awkward expression and naturally understood what she was trying to say.

"Oh, so you mean that matter."

Seeing that Shao Yun had grasped her meaning, Eula didn't waste any more words.

"Yes, that's exactly it." Eula nodded. "This kind of thing is better resolved sooner rather than later. That way, it's beneficial to both of us."

Shao Yun replied readily, "Alright, I don't have any problem with that at all. But…"

At this point, Shao Yun paused, then slowly shifted his gaze toward Lumine and Paimon seated beside him, giving them a meaningful look.

Following his line of sight, Eula turned to look at Lumine and Paimon. She froze for a moment, then asked, "Lumine, Paimon… could I borrow Shao Yun for one evening?"

Lumine was startled by Eula's sudden question.

Especially when she heard the word "borrow," an indescribably strange feeling welled up inside her. How can a husband just be borrowed so casually? Eula's wording felt way too odd!

"Huh? Why does that sound so weird?" Lumine frowned, voicing her confusion. "And what are you two even talking about? I don't understand any of it."

Eula realized that her wording might have been unclear and easily misunderstood.

So, she quickly explained, "Ah, no, that's not what I meant by 'borrow'! I just have something important I want to discuss with Shao Yun alone."

Lumine looked Eula up and down with a suspicious gaze. Why does Eula seem so strange today? But since she said it was something important…

Lumine nodded. "Oh… it feels kind of odd, but alright. No problem."

Hearing Lumine agree so readily, Eula said gratefully, "Thank you for understanding my situation."

"I still have patrol duties to take care of, so I'll excuse myself now." With that, she turned around, ready to resume her patrol.

However, after only a few steps, she suddenly stopped.

She lightly slapped her forehead and said in annoyance, "Look at my memory—I forgot to tell Shao Yun where we're meeting."

Then she turned back and called out, "Oh! Right, Shao Yun—let's meet tonight on the high ground north of Fontaine Court."

With that, she hurried off.

...

After Eula left, Paimon—who had been silently observing the situation—could no longer contain her curiosity. She floated up to Shao Yun and asked with a puzzled expression.

"So, Shao Yun, what exactly are you and Eula planning to do? Why do you have to meet alone at night out in the suburbs…"

As she spoke, Paimon's mind raced, all kinds of strange and bizarre ideas popping up one after another.

Suddenly, she thought of a possibility that, to her, was extremely dangerous. Her expression instantly turned serious as she pointed at Shao Yun and accused him.

"Don't tell me Eula's making something super delicious, and you're planning to sneak off and eat it all by yourself without me! Hmph, that's way too mean!"

Hearing that Paimon had somehow concluded he was secretly going to eat Eula's cooking, Shao Yun couldn't help but feel helpless.

He chuckled, then slowly turned his gaze to Lumine and asked, "Lumine, what do you think Eula wants to talk to me about, asking for a private meeting like this?"

Compared to Paimon, Lumine's thoughts were far more realistic—perhaps a little too realistic.

She frowned and said, "Honestly, I don't really care what you're going to talk about. I'm just really worried that you might kill Eula. I hope you understand what I mean."

After hearing this, Shao Yun felt utterly confused. He had no idea why Lumine would suddenly come up with such a bizarre thought.

"What are you talking about? How could you come up with something that outrageous?"

Lumine took a deep breath and explained, "I'm worried you'll end up dueling with Eula… you know, your relationship with her, and those relatives of hers really are problematic. But Eula herself… I'm begging you, please don't kill Eula, okay?"

At this moment, Paimon—upon hearing that Shao Yun might kill Eula—instantly exploded like a kitten whose tail had been stepped on, turning on Shao Yun in a fury.

"What?! Shao Yun, are you really planning to kill Eula?! Absolutely not! She's my and Lumine's good friend! She never harmed us! If you really dare to kill Eula, I'll never talk to you again!"

Seeing that both Lumine and Paimon genuinely believed he was about to engage in a life-or-death duel with Eula, Shao Yun stopped holding back and hurriedly explained.

"Stop guessing already. Eula wants to reconcile with me. Though she calls it reconciliation, in reality, she wants to give up her revenge with dignity."

Right after that, Shao Yun began speaking like a great philosopher, expounding on his reasoning.

"History only remembers those who truly succeed in revenge. The stories of failures have long been drowned in the river of history."

After a brief pause, he continued, "I always say that revenge is a luxury we can't afford. Revenge is a fool's game. And we're not smart people… but Eula has learned to be smart."

After hearing Shao Yun's explanation, Lumine suddenly understood and finally relaxed a little.

"Oh~ so that's how it is. In that case, it does make sense. At least given the current situation, this might already be the most appropriate solution."

"Still, I really didn't expect Eula to be the type to take the initiative to soften her stance…"

Even Shao Yun hadn't anticipated things reaching this point. He could only ask, "So, tonight—are you two coming with me, or… are you letting me go alone?"

"I think a proud girl like Eula just doesn't want too many people to see her backing down. But if it's you, I feel like even if you go, she probably won't say anything."

Lumine stroked her chin, thought for a moment, and then gave a rather ambiguous answer.

"Hmm… Paimon and I will go. But we're planning to hide a little farther away and observe from the shadows."

Hearing this rather complicated arrangement, Shao Yun asked, "Hey, isn't that a bit overkill? Why do you need to hide like that? You don't actually think that I—"

Lumine shook her head and explained her reasoning.

"Listen, I'm not suspecting some secret relationship between you and Eula. I'm worried about something else. Do you remember Tadhla?"

When Tadhla's name was mentioned, Lumine's gaze instantly dimmed, a trace of irrepressible sorrow flashing deep in her eyes.

She recalled once more the scene of that close friend—second only to Jeht in the desert—dying by her own hands.

"You were the one who wiped out the Lawrence family back then. That's not an ordinary level of hatred."

"Now Eula says she wants to completely settle things with you. I'm really afraid that this so-called 'settlement' might end up turning into… you know."

After Lumine's reminder, realization dawned on Shao Yun. He nodded in agreement. "I think you're right. That possibility does exist."

Seeing Shao Yun acknowledge her concern, Lumine reiterated her plan to observe in secret with Paimon.

"Paimon and I will stay hidden. If anything feels off, we'll show up immediately. I'll knock Eula out, and then we'll send her back home together!"

The plan sounded pretty flawless, but after hearing Lumine's words—especially the part about knocking Eula out—Shao Yun found it a bit absurd.

"Are you really sure you can knock Eula out so easily, just like that?" Shao Yun looked Lumine up and down with a teasing expression.

Noticing Shao Yun's doubt about her strength, Lumine immediately pushed back.

She pressed her left hand firmly against her right shoulder, then swung her right arm, clenched her fist, and narrowed her eyes, revealing a mysterious smile that was hard to read.

"What? Do you want to test my strength right now?"

Seeing Lumine eager to try, clearly intent on proving herself on him, Shao Yun hurriedly waved his hands in refusal.

"No, better save your strength for any unexpected situations that might happen tonight."

...

Time passed quickly, and before long, night fell.

Eula finished an entire day of patrol duties and began preparing for her reconciliation with Shao Yun that night.

She carried a crate full of ice-cold beer in one hand, while the other held some fresh ingredients.

Before long, she arrived at the high ground north of Fontaine Court.

Far away from the city's noise and splendor, only the tranquility and peace of nature surrounded the area.

Eula looked around and, finding the spot suitable, began setting up a simple campfire.

She gathered dry branches and fallen leaves as kindling. Then she took out a box of matches from her pocket and struck one lightly.

The glow of the campfire not only illuminated Eula's face but also warmed the surrounding air.

Bathed in the firelight, Eula continued working.

She found a fallen tree trunk and laid it flat on the ground, using it as a temporary seat.

After a short rest, she skillfully prepared the ingredients into mushroom-and-chicken skewers and Mondstadt grilled fish.

Once finished, she neatly placed them by the campfire and began roasting them slowly.

Second by second, the fire blazed in the night, and the aroma of the mushroom chicken skewers and Mondstadt grilled fish gradually spread through the air.

Eula sat on the tree trunk, quietly waiting for Shao Yun to arrive.
