Chapter 14 - The Scar Beneath the Stars

In a quiet town nestled between sleepy hills and whispering forests, lived a girl named Aarya. She had a scar — not one that was etched into her skin, but carved deep into her heart. It was invisible, yet she carried it everywhere.

Years ago, Aarya had a best friend named Ishan. They had grown up together, shared crayons, secrets, and dreams of seeing the ocean. He was the kind of boy who made the world feel safe, like no matter how cold winter got, his laugh would be enough to keep her warm.

But life has a cruel way of shifting things.

One rainy August evening, they had a fight. Aarya had just lost her mother, and grief had made her sharp, distant. Ishan, ever gentle, had tried to reach out, but Aarya—drowning in sorrow—pushed him away with cruel words she never truly meant.

"I don't need you," she had snapped.

He had looked at her for a long moment. Hurt, confusion, and something else — perhaps the beginning of goodbye — flickered in his eyes.

And then he walked away.

The next morning, Ishan's bicycle was found on the roadside, twisted and alone. A speeding truck had taken more than just a young boy's life. It had taken a piece of Aarya too.

No one blamed her. But she did. Every night.

Years passed. People forgot. But Aarya remembered.

She wore the pain like a second skin — invisible, constant. She stopped laughing. She stopped dreaming. She stopped going near the sea.

Until one day, she visited the beach they had always talked about.

The sun was dipping low, and the waves shimmered under its golden light. She sat on the sand, let the wind tangle her hair, and whispered an apology to the tide.

And in that moment, for the first time in years, she let herself cry. Not the silent tears she had mastered, but deep, trembling sobs that shook her chest and watered the earth with regret.

A small boy nearby, building a sandcastle, looked up and offered her a seashell.

"It's broken, but pretty," he said.

She took it gently. The edges were chipped, and a crack ran through its center — yet the light still danced on its surface.

Aarya smiled faintly.

That's what she was too, wasn't she?

Broken. But still capable of light.

That night, she wrote Ishan a letter and buried it beneath the sand.

And though the scar remained — it softened.

Because scars don't always fade.

But they do stop bleeding.

And sometimes, that's enough.
