Chapter 36 - Chapter 036 - The Ending, About to Return to Hell

A silvery flat metal blade sliced through the scorpion-like mechanical lifeform before him, cutting it cleanly in two.

In the next instant, the blade whirled back with a diagonal slash, splitting two more scorpion-like mechanical creatures apart.

Sensing something, he leaped violently, his body instantly propelling ten meters into the air. The ground where he had stood erupted as a death worm-like mechanical organism burst through the soil.

Its densely packed teeth, like an assortment of daggers of varying sizes forming a grotesque maw, attempted to devour him—as if planning to grind flesh into mincemeat.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

His other hand had already drawn a gun, orange light flashing repeatedly like a camera's rapid strobe. The death worm's maw, large enough to swallow a truck cab, with its hundreds of high-speed rotating metal fangs, erupted in multiple flashes of light. For a brief moment, it looked as if a plasma ball had formed, instantly melting away most of the metal fangs.

His pupils contracted as he immediately switched to another type of ammunition. With another orange flash from the gun barrel, an explosive round struck deep into the mechanical lifeform's throat, erupting in a shower of sparks.

Boom!

The creature exploded, sending metal fragments flying in all directions. He heard numerous metallic impacts against the defensive shield that had unfolded from his forearm—similar to a collapsible umbrella that had instantly deployed.

When the barrage of fragments subsided, he immediately retracted the shield as his airborne body began to descend.

He observed the blasted-open death worm mechanical lifeform below, noticing a large drill at the center of its body. The drill's surface was riddled with holes—punctures made by diamond-tipped fragments from his explosive rounds.

Looking carefully at the still-wobbling drill, he realized that if he hadn't attacked first, its high-speed rotation would have launched it like a bullet.

Boom!

A sudden explosion less than five meters to his side destroyed a mechanical lifeform that had been about to pounce on him, turning it into a heap of scrap metal crashing to the ground.

The destruction wasn't his doing but came from 2B's attack from the flank.

With this world's android power armor technology now incorporated into his refurbished suit, Ejie had nearly completed testing it.

He hadn't been shot down in his original aircraft, necessitating the switch to power armor combat.

Instead, seeing that the battle was nearing its end, he had chosen to abandon his aircraft and engage using the power armor.

The difference between his current power armor and the original was that this new version looked more science-fiction-like and better fit his physique, with at least three times the agility of the original.

Of course, the corresponding physical defense capability was less than half of the original.

It was comparable to two types of bulletproof vests: one with a solid metal plate that greatly restricted movement but offered superior protection, and another like a liquid armor that allowed for easier movement but had weaker defense, as it couldn't distribute impact across the entire vest as effectively as a solid plate could.

That was the difference between the modified power armor and the original.

Furthermore, the internal life support system was inferior to the original power armor.

And then there was...

All things considered, Ejie definitely found the newly designed power armor—reconstructed from fragments of his damaged original suit—more effective.

If the original power armor was like a game character equipping an item that increased combat ability by 200%, the new power armor could boost it by 400%.

However, the durability difference was quite significant, probably only about one-third of the original.

Hmm?

The remaining mechanical lifeforms suddenly fell into disarray.

It seemed the enemy's server had been successfully breached, signaling the end of the war.

And regarding the 100 hours he could remain in this world, without needing to check online, he estimated that less than six hours remained.

Shortly after, in the command center, Ejie discovered that Commander White was the only person there; everyone else had been asked to leave. Clearly, they were about to discuss something that couldn't be casually disclosed.

As the door closed behind him, the slender yet shapely figure approached him, her sensual lips parting to speak:

"Mr. Ejie, I have a somewhat troublesome request."

The mature woman's expression became somewhat peculiar as she said this—different from her previously serious and rigorous attitude when facing him. Now she displayed a seductive look, seeming somewhat mischievous.

"A request?"

"We hope that before you leave this world, you'll leave behind your... life seed."

This statement left Ejie momentarily stunned.

By "life seed," did she mean what he thought?

"You can designate anyone to assist you. 2B is also an option."

Specifically mentioning 2B—what did that imply?

The commander's upturned corner of the mouth suggested she had somehow seen through his inner thoughts.

This commander appeared to have something of a devilish personality.

"I'm to help? Obtain the life seed?"

The command center wasn't occupied solely by Commander White and himself; A2 and 2B had also entered.

Thus, 2B, who had been specifically mentioned, spoke with a confused tone, appearing somewhat startled yet flattered.

"Commander, I think 9S would be more suitable to help."

2B said very seriously.

Though she didn't understand the situation, it was clear this task was extremely important. As a battle-type YoRHa android, she certainly wouldn't perform better than 9S at non-combat tasks.

In combat, she was definitely more capable than 9S, but preserving some "life seed" was obviously not combat-related—it was probably related to genetic extraction, which 9S would be more suited for.

In reality, an H-type android would be most appropriate, but for safety concerns, it was better to have someone familiar help him, someone he would trust more, and 9S fit that role perfectly.

"Pfft~"

The commander couldn't help but laugh, while 2B noticed Lord Ejie's face darkening.

"This task can only be assisted by females, 2B."

"Ah? Is that so?"

"Yes, and if you were to help, I think Mr. Ejie would be quite pleased, as he seems quite fond of you."

"Fond of me?"

"Yes."

After affirming this, White's expression became complicated.

Because Ejie, being human, showed heart rate responses toward 2B that were clearly physiological reactions of attraction toward the opposite sex.

And humans generally only like their own kind.

In other words, 2B was being treated as the same species, meaning 2B had gained recognition.

In a sense, 2B was the existence closest to being human.

That was why Commander White's inner thoughts were complicated.
