Chapter 98 - Chapter 98 – Where the Breach Opens

[Sextus]

The center held. But the right flank of the center... not so much.

Sextus saw it as he shoved aside the body of a dead German with his shield: a crack, a weak spot poorly held by auxiliaries starting to falter.

"That group's about to break!" shouted Atticus, pointing to the vulnerable point.

Scaeva saw it too. He said nothing. Just looked at Sextus.

And Sextus nodded.

Without waiting for an order, he gathered five legionaries. Titus, Atticus, and three more. They were covered in blood, breathless, with eyes empty of everything but will.

"With me," he said. And they ran.

[Wulfgar]

The Roman shield shattered like rotten wood.

Wulfgar smashed it with his axe, and the legionary behind it collapsed without a sound. Beside him, three men from his village—young, wild, hungry for glory—followed him as if he were already a chieftain.

"This way!" he shouted, not looking back.

He had found the gap. A weak point. A line without strength. The place where he could tear Rome apart with his hands.

And he was about to do it.

[Sextus]

"Close formation! Shields up!" he shouted as they arrived.

The auxiliaries were falling back, wounded or dead. It was a chaos of bodies and mud. But Sextus and his men entered like wedges of iron.

The clash was immediate.

Screams. Impacts. Axes against gladius. Flesh against flesh.

And among them...

[Wulfgar]

There he was.

In the middle of the fight. Closer than expected.

The Roman.The same one.The enemy.

He saw him block a blow, twist with his shield, drive his sword into one of Wulfgar's men. He saw him bleeding, gasping, his face dirty... but steady.

[Sextus]

He felt something. A gaze locked onto his.

He looked up by instinct.

And he saw him.

The German with braids. No tattoos. A face twisted by rage. Not just any warrior.

He knew it instantly.

They were going to meet.

But then a blow from the side threw him off. Another enemy, another body, another lost second.

And when he looked back...

Wulfgar was no longer there.

[Wulfgar]

A Roman got in his way. Not the one he wanted, but he blocked the path. Wulfgar cut him down. Then another. And another. But the moment was gone. The chaos swallowed everything again.

No.Not now. Not yet.

But he had seen him.

And the Roman had seen him too.
