Chapter 54: The Salvatore Wedding
Never before had such silence settled over the Salvatore house as it did in those moments. After everything that had happened—the coven rituals, Elias, the magic, the blood—a temporary peace had finally come to rest, even if only for a moment. The brothers found themselves facing something they hadn't known in a long time: a moment to breathe.
Alexander was sitting on the couch, a book in his hand, half-asleep. Damon was wandering around the kitchen, a glass of bourbon in hand, muttering incomprehensibly about Bonnie having hidden the good bottle. The atmosphere was still, eerily so… an ordinary quiet, but a precious one.
Then came the soft sound of the front door opening.
Stefan entered, a rare, bright smile on his face. He wasn't injured or stained with blood or bearing grim news. He looked... alive, as if life had begun to run freely through his veins again. Happy in a way that didn't fit the world they lived in.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, while Damon turned to him, surprised.
"What's with the smile?" Damon asked, eyeing him suspiciously, as if expecting Stefan to announce another death.
Stefan replied lightly, a sparkle in his eyes, "I have news."
Damon narrowed his eyes. "If it's another end-of-the-world prophecy... I'm taking a vacation."
Alexander smiled and slowly closed his book. "He doesn't look like a harbinger of doom… he looks... madly in love."
Stefan chuckled softly. "Close enough. I'm getting married."
Damon blinked twice before asking in astonishment, "To...?"
"Caroline."
Alexander's eyes widened in surprise, and Damon froze. For a moment, silence hung over the room.
Then—
"Holy sh—" Damon caught the curse, lifted his glass to his lips, and downed the rest in one gulp before sinking into a seat. "You're serious."
Stefan nodded firmly.
Alexander laughed and moved in to shake his hand warmly. "That's... amazing, brother."
Damon stood too, patting Stefan's shoulder. "Look at you... finally settling down. Took you long enough, didn't it?"
Stefan said calmly, "I wanted it to be real... And after everything we've been through, I think it's finally time."
Alexander smiled. "So, when's the date?"
"A few weeks from now," Stefan replied. "Caroline's started contacting everyone, Bonnie's helping her plan, even Elena too. Klaus even sent a message confirming he won't crash the ceremony—which is an achievement in itself."
Damon raised his empty glass. "To you, little brother. May your future be less cursed than our past."
....
The echo of footsteps in the halls, laughter rising from the kitchen, and constant chatter about the wedding— the mansion that had long been soaked in gloom now felt as though it had been revived.
Just a week ago, Stefan had announced the news: he and Caroline were finally getting married.
There were no objections, no long hesitations, no supernatural events erupting into unexpected drama. There was only joy... pure and rare in a town like Mystic Falls.
And now, with the big day just a few days away, the Salvatore brothers found themselves doing something they were never used to: planning.

Salvatore Living Room – Morning
"So," Damon said lazily, collapsing onto the leather couch, a glass of bourbon in hand. "Are we doing things the traditional way? Or are we letting Caroline control every moment of this wedding?"
Stefan gave him a dry look as he flipped through a list of wedding venues. "As if we have a say. This wedding is happening, whether you like it or not."
Damon smirked. "I'm genuinely happy for you, little brother. But someone's got to keep the sarcasm alive. You've been way too dreamy lately."
Alexander walked in with a sideways smile. "He's not wrong. I've seen blood vows between vampires with less commitment than this."
"Haha," Stefan muttered, though he couldn't help the smile creeping onto his face. "I'd like to see how either of you would handle preparing for a wedding involving Caroline Forbes. She made me pick the font for the itinerary cards. The font, Alexander."
Alexander laughed, reclining in a nearby chair. "Sounds like she's marrying a saint."
"Exactly," Damon said, raising his glass. "Which is why I'm nominating myself as best man. Obvious choice, right?"
Stefan straightened in his seat. "Oh no, I'm not letting you steal the spotlight and turn the best man speech into your own comedy show."
Damon put a hand to his chest in mock offense. "Me? Steal the spotlight?"
Alexander suddenly interjected, "Actually, the real question is: who's going to officiate the wedding? I vote for Ric."
"Already sent him a message," Stefan replied. "He's printing his online certificate now."
Alexander looked impressed. "That man is ready for anything."
Damon raised his glass. "To Alaric. And to me, the obvious best man."
Stefan and Alexander exchanged a meaningful glance before Stefan said, "You do realize being the best man means you're in charge of the bachelor party, right?"
Damon raised his eyebrows. "Umm... maybe Alexander wants to take that on."
"No way," Alexander said, standing and brushing off imaginary dust from his jacket. "I just got my life back; I'm not wasting it planning your party."
Stefan concluded, "You'll both be my best men. I'm not choosing between you."
The three stood silently for a moment before Damon groaned, "Fine... but I get to give the speech."
Alexander pointed at him. "As long as you don't mention strippers."
"No promises."
---
Later that afternoon – Wedding Shop
Caroline had taken Bonnie and Elena into town to try on the final dress. In the meantime, the brothers were tasked with picking up the wedding rings.
The conversation in the car shifted from logistics to memories.
"Remember when Caroline and Stefan used to argue about literally everything?" Damon said as he drove.
"Like that time she yelled at him for organizing the bookshelf the wrong way?" Alexander added with a mischievous smile.
Stefan muttered, "She was right. Who puts romance novels next to horror books?"
Alexander shrugged indifferently. "Balance."
---
Salvatore House – Evening
The brothers sat on the porch, each holding a beer, watching the sun set behind Mystic Falls.
"Do you think things could actually stay like this?" Stefan asked after a moment of silence.
Damon remained quiet for a while, then said softly, "I hope so."
Alexander nodded slowly. "After everything... maybe we deserve a little peace."
Silence stretched between them, but it was a comfortable one. No ancient threat, no curse, no looming tragedy.
Just three brothers, a wedding ahead, and a quiet moment.
---
The night before the rehearsal dinner
Damon barged into Alexander's room, a tie in his hand.
"You're wearing this."
Alexander blinked. "Why?"
"Because you're standing next to me at the altar, and I refuse to let your tragic fashion sense ruin my look."
"I wear black."
"Yes, and this is also... black. But it's classy."
Alexander chuckled as he took the tie. "I'm proud of you, you know that?"
Damon paused and turned to him. "And I of you."
They said nothing else... and didn't need to.
---
In Caroline's room
Bonnie helped Caroline into her rehearsal dress, her eyes glistening with light tears. "He really loves you."
Caroline smiled. "I know... It took time, didn't it?"
Elena walked in and said, "But now… better late than never."
---
Salvatore House – Midnight
The three brothers had returned to where they always did—near the fireplace, drinks in hand.
Damon said, "To Stefan."
Alexander added, "To the future."
Stefan raised his glass. "To family."
