Sue
How? How does he have a son?
I remained silent as I watched him interact quietly with his son, but he barely acknowledged the woman. I trudged after him when he finally stepped into the palace, and I didn't miss the way the woman threw me a scalding look, one which made me scoff in irritation.
"Damon, who is this ugly looking thing?" The woman asked after pressing against Damon with the ruse of taking off his jacket for him. However, he shrugged her off and took his jacket off himself.
"She's none of your concern, Adele."
Adele. So that's her name.
The woman didn't look happy by that response. If anything, the look she gave me was angrier this time and I just knew that she was gonna give me a hard time here.
Damon began to climb up the stairs and I dutifully accompanied him, while Adele kept trying to plaster herself against him– 'try' being the key word.
When he got into a large looking sitting room, after I stepped in, he ordered Adele to leave. She refused and tried arguing but after he leveled her with a dark look, she relented and exited the room, but not before giving me a long, scalding look.
After the door closed after her, I let out a loud scoff, instantly folding her arms.
"Really? You have a wife and a child? And you brought me back here with you? For what reason?" I demanded, watching as he ignored me, choosing to head to the bar at the end of the room to fish out a bottle of alcohol.
He didn't respond till after he downed a few mouthfuls.
"She's not my wife. We're just… engaged." He finally responded, voice tight and I let out a disbelieving scoff.
"Is that supposed to make things better?" I hurled at him in irritation.
"That's none of my concern, but keep in mind that it's a sham engagement. She doesn't mean a thing to me or anything." He snapped back at me and I let out a sarcastic laugh.
"Oh, wait. Let me guess. You impregnated her then had to get engaged to her?" I asked and he rolled his eyes.
"Since you're so curious, the answer is no. She was betrothed to me since she was born." He explained and I blanched.
"What? In this century? How is that still a thing? And does this mean your brothers are also engaged to different women?" I asked and his jaw clenched before he tensely nodded.
My shock increased ten folds.
"So, I'm guessing their fiancés doesn't mean a thing to them as well, huh?" I asked and he flashed me a glare.
"You'd have to ask them yourself when you see them." He responded flatly and I glared at him angrily.
"So do they also have kids? Or I'd have to ask them too?"
"They don't." He gruffed out and I snorted. How convenient.
"So what's gonna happen to me now? I have to stay here as what? As your mistress?!" I demanded, starting to feel appalled all over again. I began to ask him if he could please let me go and that I'd find my way home no matter what, but he told me to stop being delusional at this point because that's never happening. That instantly made my hate for him increase drastically.
"You'll remain here with me for a month." He spoke firmly after putting the alcohol away and starting to unbutton his shirt, revealing inches of silver skin just as he began to walk towards me. I felt myself start to grow tense, my heartbeat began to accelerate and nerves began to eat at my chest but I held my ground firmly and refused to give into the urge to avert my gaze from his.
"You'll stay here not as my mistress, but as my mate." He continued as stopped a few inches away from me. I blinked up at him for a moment before my gaze automatically narrowed at him, right before I folded my arms like that was enough to protect me from him.
"You're stupid if you think you'd be able to get me into your bed. That's never gonna happen, so… no matter what, be sure to keep that in your mind at all times." I informed him, holding his gaze as I said each word.
After I was done, I exhaled slowly, watching as he stared at me before his dark eyes shifted off my face to drag over my body, and when it returned back to my face, I felt a little dazed. I wanted to step away from him so badly, his Smokey, pine scent was starting to curl around me too much than I'd have liked.
"Relax, I have no intention of doing that." He finally said, voice sounding bored.
I snorted and rolled my eyes. "Yeah, right."
He stared me up and down again before the side of his lips twitched in amusement, right before he spoke.
"You're not even my type, so trust me, that's never happening." He informed me and even though I forced myself to not react, I felt hurt by that word on the inside. It was one thing to be unwanted and it was another thing to hear people tell you things like this to your face.
I cleared my throat and forced myself to smile at him. "Good."
He stared at me for a moment longer before wordlessly walking past me.
"Come. I'll show you to your room." He instructed, but as I fell into step after him, I began to ask myself why he also accepted me to become his mate if he claimed that I wasn't his type. A part of me wondered if I wasn't the type of his two brothers as well.
That should please me, shouldn't it?
But why do I feel a dull ache within my chest at that thought?
~~~
He pushed open a large door and gestured within it. "This is your room. You'll stay here till a month is up."
He turned away and was about to leave when I stop him.
"Wait, I have questions! What am I supposed to be doing in here? I have no clothes or anything here. And am I allowed to leave my room since I'm not a prisoner here. I need answers to these questions." I demanded and he turned back around, a pinched expression across his face like he was being forced to keep me here.
"Your wardrobe issues would be taken care of tomorrow, and you can leave this room if you want, you can explore this palace, just stay away from the west wing." He explained and I narrowed my eyes, instantly curious.
"Why is the west wing off limits?" I demanded but he ignored me.
"You can't leave this palace unsupervised. A guard would be assigned to you tomorrow. That would be all for now." He turned around and began to walk down the hall. I had a lot of questions to ask him but held my tongue and decided against it. It was pointless since it seemed like he almost couldn't wait to be away from me.
Was it because of my wolfless state? Or my hybrid state? But they didn't know that I was a hybrid, right?
As a hybrid, I had wolf ears while in my human form. That was what made me the freak of my pack, because there was also no wolf within me. I was literally born with those wolf ears. I began to take a particular shot monthly that helps keep those wolf ears hidden within my head as soon as I hit eighteen, but the members of my father's pack never let go of the fact that they were aware of the fact that I was still a hybrid even with the ears hidden. However, new people couldn't tell that I was a hybrid since they'd never gotten to see those weird ears before. Which means my stupid mates weren't aware of that about me, right?
I exhaled slowly and was about to close the door of my new room when a leg prevented that from happening. I glanced up and a frown settled across my face on realizing who it was. It was Adele, and she looked very furious.
"Who the hell are you?" She demanded, glaring daggers at me and I exhaled again. I was tired and hungry, this was the last thing I wanted to be doing right now.
"Please leave me alone, if you're worried about me stealing your man from you, fear not, I'm not interested in him." I tell her flatly but she didn't seem like she believed me.
"If you dare entertain any stupid thoughts, I promise to teach you a lesson you'll never forget. Be sure to stay in your lane here and never step out of it no matter what." She hurled at me but I rolled my eyes, not fazed in the slightest. I stared down at her since she was quite short.
"Can you get lost? I need to sleep." I demanded and she blanched, appearing very horrified, but before she could get another word out, I shoved her backward and slammed the door in her face, instantly locking it.
Good riddance.
As I glanced around the extremely exquisite bedroom, my eyes instantly zeroed in on the large window there, which I instantly rushed towards.
The window was the perfect size for me to use in escaping from this room, and that's what I intend to do tonight.
If Damon really thought I'd be here waiting for new cloths alll that rubbish to be brought to me tomorrow, then he was mistaken. I have no interest in being anyone's prisoner, even though said captors happen to be my fated mates.
