Chapter 38 - chapter 38

The wind howled as dusk settled over the city, casting long shadows across the quiet hilltop. Perched on the edge of the city's cliffs, the view was breathtaking—an ocean of lights twinkling in the distance. But the serenity was broken by footsteps.

Hena stood quietly, letting the cool breeze whip her hair. Her thoughts were heavy, but her heart was calm. She had come here to find peace, away from the chaos. But fate had other plans.

Behind her, Hara's voice cut through the silence like a blade.

"You just couldn't stay away, could you?"

Hena turned, her eyes narrowing. "What are you doing here, Hara?"

Hara walked closer, her heels crunching the gravel beneath her. Her expression was twisted with frustration and something deeper—desperation.

"This was supposed to be my life," Hara snapped. "Damian, the company, the name... You took it all!"

"I didn't take anything," Hena said calmly. "The truth just came out."

"You're ruining everything!" Hara screamed, her voice rising. "Everything I built! My place, my future—you don't belong here!"

She lunged forward.

In a blur, she grabbed Hena's arm and shoved her toward the cliff's edge.

Hena stumbled back, the rocky edge crumbling beneath her heels. A small scream escaped her lips as she slipped, her balance teetering.

"Hena!" a voice roared.

From the treeline, Damian sprinted toward them.

Just as Hena's foot slipped, Damian reached out, grabbing her hand with both of his. His body dropped to the ground as he pulled her back from the edge with every ounce of strength he had.

"Hena, hold on!" he gasped.

"I've got you!" His grip tightened as she clawed at the ground, heart pounding.

After seconds that felt like an eternity, Damian yanked her back onto solid ground. She collapsed into his arms, gasping for breath, her eyes wide with shock.

Hara froze, her face pale.

"You… you were going to let me fall," Hena whispered, her voice shaking.

"I—I didn't mean—" Hara stammered, but Damian had turned to her with fury in his eyes.

"What the hell were you thinking, Hara?"

Hara's lips trembled. "She's turning everything upside down. She doesn't deserve—"

"She's my fiancée," Damian growled. "And you were about to murder her."

"I didn't—" Hara's voice cracked. "I didn't mean to kill her."

"You tried to push her off a cliff!"

"I lost control…" she said, backing away. "I just wanted everything to go back to how it was!"

Damian helped Hena to her feet, keeping her close. "There is no 'how it was.' The truth is out. And the only one who can't accept it is you."

Tears welled in Hara's eyes, but she clenched her fists.

"You chose her," she said bitterly. "After everything…"

"I chose the truth," Damian replied. "And I chose love. You never gave me either."

Hara let out a shaky breath, her voice barely audible. "So this is how it ends…"

"It doesn't have to end like this," Hena said, her voice still trembling but strong. "You still have a chance to walk away and start over."

Hara laughed, hollow and cold. "Start over? With nothing? You've taken everything I ever had."

"You're wrong," Hena said. "You gave it all away—by lying, by clinging to something that was never really yours."

The words hit Hara like a slap.

She turned without another word and ran into the dark, leaving Damian and Hena in silence under the moonlight.

Damian turned to Hena, brushing her hair from her face. "Are you okay?"

Hena nodded slowly, her voice breaking. "You saved me…"

"Of course I did," he said, pulling her into his arms. "I'm never letting you fall—in any way."

Hena's tears finally spilled, her hands clutching the fabric of his jacket. The fear, the betrayal, and the closeness of death—all of it washed over her at once. But in Damian's arms, she found her strength again.

"Let's go home," she whispered.

Damian nodded, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Together."
