Ren came downstairs to the sitting room. Their home was a very gigantic mansion. Everything used in the mansion was of high quality and classic, with unique artwork.

The mansion alone showed that her parents were filthy wealthy. It was breathtaking.

The mansion seemed like hundreds of people were living in it, whereas it was just her, her parents, and few househelps.

Her parents owned a company, which was run by them and would be inherited by Ren. She was the sole heir to the company, and her parents wanted her to act like one and even sacrifice for that.

They wouldn't want to leave a company they had built for thirty-five years to a daughter who wouldn't be able to run it or make sacrifices for it.

Ren's parents, Yuzu and Tadashi, were seated in the sitting room. They sat at the edge of the sofa in anticipation of something. Their faces were a little bit tense. Tadashi was tapping his right foot gently in an irregular pattern.

Yuzu's heart raced slightly with nervousness. Her eyes were fixed in no particular direction. What could that something be that made two wealthy people look tense?

Anxiety hung like a dark impenetrable cloud

Ren was a little bit surprised to see her parents dressed in some of the most expensive clothes she had ever seen on them, but they weren't even looking like they were going out.

Her mum was even wearing her rare diamond necklace and earrings that her dad had given her as a birthday gift. That was the first time she was wearing it. Not that she didn't wear diamond jewelry, but that particular jewelry was special, exceptional, exquisite. It was a gift very close to her heart.

"Dad, Mum, are you guys going out?" she inquired.

"What are you wearing, Ren?" Her mum looked displeased, looking narrowly at what Ren was wearing. Her usual warmth faded.

Her dad glared at her. "Is that what you are wearing, Ren?" His brow furrowed in disapproval. His face slightly frowned.

Ren looked at what she was wearing as if she wasn't the one who had made the choice of putting it on. She was wearing a comfortable, delicate casual outfit: a jean skirt and a shirt. She wondered what was wrong with it. Her parents had never complained about it before, so why now?

She looked at them questioningly, her eyes narrowed with a soft, lingering gaze. Her small, delicate lips slightly parted, trying to form words of confusion that never came out.

"Your fiancé and his family are coming to have dinner with us. I told you this before," her mum said softly. She wasn't looking displeased this time, a genuine smile curving her lips.

"Oh!" Ren exclaimed quietly. She had totally forgotten.

Her dad went to meet her. He held both her hands. "Ren?" he called out softly.

She gave a gentle, polite smile. "Yes, Dad."

His smile was mixed with seriousness. "Please don't spoil this moment for us. You know what this means to us, to the company, and to your future. Please put on your best behavior," he pleaded earnestly.

Ren nodded, her face still held the smile.

"Sweetie, go to your room now and change into the outfit I got for you. They will be here anytime soon," her mum gestured with her hand.

Ren went to her room. Her room was enormous. The bed is white bedding with embellishing pillows neatly arranged on it and has a blue faux fur covering the edge of the bed.

There is a decorative round mirror with stings of colorful light at the wall besides the headboard.

At the right hand side of the room there is a blue dresser with skin care products, perfumes and makeup kits on it. She has a frame of her, her mother and father together at the beach sitting on the side of the dresser.

At the far end of the right side of the room, her wardrobe contains clothes, shoes, bags and other girly items.

At the left side of the room there is a casement window. It has sunflowers in a vase sitting on the window. Close to the window there is a comfy blue velvet armchair.

The floor is covered with a blue faux fur rug and strings of colorful light adorned the ceiling .

The aesthetics and interior view of the room is breathtaking and magnificent

She slumped on her bed with a heavy thud, then exhaled softly.

She changed into the outfit her mum had bought for her. She had lots of clothes, but her mum insisted she wear a new outfit, and they had gone out to the most expensive boutique. Her mum did the selection. She didn't feel like it was a big occasion requiring a new outfit.

After putting on the red dinner nightgown, she put on some light makeup. Then she wore gold earrings and a necklace. She wore her hair loose, allowing it draped over her shoulder like summer twilight

Her black heels were the last thing she wore. It was a limited edition. Her mum had gotten it directly from the company, and only three were made. Her mum got one, a female artist celebrity got one, and she didn't know who got the last one. She didn't care, but her mum did. She wanted to know. She had asked, and it was said that it was an anonymous buyer.

Ren went downstairs to the dining room. Her fiancé's family was already there: the father, mother, and their son, her fiancé. Food was already served with different rich Japanese dishes. The dishes covered the large dining table, and the aroma was fantastic. Different brands of expensive wine were also on the dining table.

Everybody smiled when they saw her. Her fiancé, Shin, went to meet her. He hugged her, then pecked her on both of her cheeks.

"You look so gorgeous," he whispered sweetly.

Ren smiled dazzlingly. He held her hands and walked her properly to the dining table.

"My daughter-in-law-to-be looks so pretty!" Kazumi, Shin's mum, admired, then hugged Ren.

"Thank you, Ma. You look pretty yourself," Ren complimented.

"Nah! I'm old, don't lie to me," she exaggerated funnily.

Everybody laughed.

"No, no, you aren't. I'm sure people wouldn't believe you were the one who gave birth to someone as old as Shin," Ren added.

They laughed again.

"Don't flatter me, my dear," she chuckled, obviously liking the compliment.

Itsuki hugged Ren also. "I'm proud to have you as my daughter-in-law so soon."

Ren smiled. "Thank you, sir."

Shin pulled out a chair for Ren beside him at the dining table, and she sat down.

Everybody sat down also.

Two househelps came and dished out the food and wine for them, then left.

They started eating. The clanking of spoons and forks against the ori-zara, a luxury tableware brand, was gentle.

"Soon, we have a wedding to plan!" Itsuki announced, smiling. He cleaned his mouth with a serviette.

"Slow down, Mr. Itsuki," Tadashi gestured with his hand. Everyone laughed.

"She is engaged, so what next?" Kazumi asked knowingly.

Tadashi cleared his throat. "You know Ren is still in high school. We want her to finish first before the wedding. She would be a married woman in her college."

They laughed again.

"Yeah, you're right. It might be awkward for her in high school as a married woman," Itsuki reasoned.

"Let her enjoy her high school," Yuzu added.

"But she shouldn't enjoy her high school forgetting she is engaged," Kazumi clarified.

They laughed heartily.

"Will you, Ren?" Yuzu gave a wide grin

She chuckled, then shook her head. "No, Mum."

"You have done so well, Tadashi and Yuzu, to bring up such a wonderful daughter, polite and well-mannered," he complimented cheerfully.

"Likewise your son. We are lucky to have him as our son-in-law-to-be. There is no joy greater than that. This wedding will set a good record for our different companies," Tadashi commented.

That same evening, Ren and Shin were outside, sitting on a loveseat. Shin continued staring at Ren in an admiring way. Ren became uncomfortable, but not shy. She felt like he was staring too much, and it was improper.

This was someone she had known since they were kids, so why did it seem like that was the first day he was setting his eyes on her?

She touched her face to know if there was anything on it, but she couldn't find any. That could be the only reason he would be staring at her like that, or probably she had something in her hair, but she had looked at the mirror quite well before she came out.

"Is there anything on my face or hair?" she finally decided to ask.

"Nah. You are just so beautiful," he admired, and then smiled.

Something must be wrong with Shin, she thought, and then scoffed internally. She was always the same person, and she always overdressed each time he was coming to see her, so what made him think that her beauty that day was different? He should just get done with the whole talk; she had better things to do inside.

She sighed and then forced a smile.

"Thank you so much, Shin."

"I can't wait to finally be with you as your husband, not husband-to-be."

She chuckled.

"Let's get done with our wedding, Ren. I don't know why the hell you and your family are still making things this slow," frustration creeping through his voice. His brow was wrinkled.

"Shin, all my parents asked me to finish high school. Why is it so difficult for you and your family? It's not like we aren't getting married. We are. It's just a matter of time."

"I love you, Ren. I really do." He placed his hand on his forehead and breath out softly.

"I know, Shin. You have always loved me, but things need to be at a slow pace. We are engaged, so I'm secured for you. There is no way any other guy could have me. My parents will never allow that. You know the relationship between my family and yours."

"Yes, I do, my love." He held her hands sweetly. It was supposed to give her butterflies in her stomach but it didn't.

"You are the only woman I want to be with. You are all I have, and I'll continue loving and waiting for you," his gaze fixed on her.

She smiled. "I'm always here for you, Shin. No matter what happens, nobody can come between us. I won't allow that, and I know you won't allow that either. Our families ditto. So you shouldn't feel insecure, okay?"

He smiled cheerfully and embraced her passionately. Tears welled up in his eyes.
