Chapter 256 - "254: Gabriel, Nature of Gabriel"

After heading downstairs quietly, a short drive of under thirty minutes brought him to his workplace—a quaint café called Rabbit House. This was where he worked.

"Good morning, Chino!" he called out as he walked in.

"Good morning, Su Mo-oniichan!" responded a cute middle school girl with light ash-blue hair from behind the counter. Her name was Chino Kafuu, the daughter of the café owner and its chief barista.

—Is the Order a Rabbit?

Su Mo still remembered this fluffy slice-of-life anime that he used to love watching before he transmigrated. Even while watching it, he had a strange feeling about it, and now, living in that world, he could finally confirm it.

"Morning, Tippy!"

He greeted the furry ball sitting on top of Chino's head.

"Morning!"

The "rabbit" actually spoke. Despite looking like a fluffy Angora rabbit, Tippy was actually Chino's grandfather. No one knew why he'd turned into a rabbit, but apparently, that was just how it worked here. Compared to the lamia girl he saw earlier, this magical twist felt almost… normal. Su Mo was one of the few people who knew Tippy's true identity. Aside from Chino, most of the staff had no clue. Today, another regular employee, Rize Tedeza, had taken the day off. After exchanging morning greetings, Su Mo finished the prep work for the shop.

That's when the last staff member finally showed up—though she wasn't exactly a permanent employee. Nor was she like Rize, who helped out while working part-time. This one was… let's call her a "working-student type."

"Gabriel, you were almost late again." Su Mo glanced at the time and addressed the new arrival. Standing before him was Gabriel White Tenma—a fallen angel, literally. Once a top student in Heaven, she had completely fallen from grace after discovering the joys of video games. She blew all her money on microtransactions and ended up needing to work part-time to survive. Honestly, when Su Mo first met her, he had been shocked. After witches, demons, and lamias—now an actual angel? But years of mental resilience had helped him calmly accept all these strange beings hiding in an otherwise "normal" world. Gabriel scratched her head, looking sheepish.

"Almost being late still means I wasn't late, right? So… no pay deduction?" Her eyes sparkled with pitiful hope when she mentioned money.

"Of course not," Su Mo replied, shaking his head. "But if you don't hurry and get changed, the customers will be here soon!"

"Roger that, senpai!" Relieved by his answer, Gabriel dashed off like the wind. In her heart, she vowed to herself—next time, she definitely wouldn't stay up all night gaming again. Next time, for sure!

Watching her escape with such speed, Su Mo could only shake his head. Her fall from grace was practically irreversible at this point. But as long as she worked properly, he had no intention of interfering. Other than being a massive homebody, she wasn't bad overall. Aside from occasionally worrying that Gabriel might get bored and blow the Trumpet of Doom, Su Mo had no real concerns. After all, worrying wouldn't solve anything. Living in such a fantastical slice-of-life world, even after transmigrating, he had yet to receive any kind of cheat ability.

Over the years, the only thing he had really gained was a strong heart. He hadn't acquired any special powers. Thankfully, the job was quite relaxing, and Chino-chan was adorable enough to make the days pleasant. He didn't feel like there was anything wrong with his current life.

With that in mind, Su Mo continued preparing his special blend of mixed coffee. In addition to being a barista, he also handled dessert duties at Rabbit House. During lunch, he shared part of his extra fried rice with Gabriel, who had been eyeing him pitifully the whole time. Just as he was about to head out, his next step brought him directly into the Mist space.

...

...

"So when you said your world was both ordinary and not, this is what you meant?" Su Mo from the Index world finally understood after hearing the newcomer's explanation. "A fusion of fantastical and slice-of-life elements… That does sound interesting," he mused. "Isn't 'Is the Order a Rabbit?' just a cute slice-of-life anime for moe fans? It actually counts as fantasy too?" Su Mo from the Fairy Tail world was a bit surprised. "Well, considering Tippy is in it, I'd say it has some fantasy elements," Su Mo from Pokemon world said with a slight shake of his head. The group now had a general grasp of the kind of world the newcomer was from.

"I get the feeling the supernatural side of that world is deeper than what was shown in the original works," Su Mo from the DanMachi world said thoughtfully, stroking his chin. "Gabriel graduated from an angel academy in Heaven, which at least confirms that Heaven exists in that world—maybe even gods."

"And with Jashin-chan running around, there must be demons or something akin to Hell," he added. "As for the Rabbit House series, apart from Tippy, it doesn't show much else."

"Although, I do remember one episode where Chino's mother's spirit appeared?" Just from those elements alone, it was safe to say that the world included at least three realms—Heaven, Hell, and the mortal world. The others nodded in agreement after hearing the DanMachi Su Mo's analysis.

"The organization or system behind this world is clearly quite vast," one said. "But with our current combat capabilities, we don't really need to be worried." In a standard-level world, the most powerful entities barely reached planet-busting levels, so Su Mo felt assured about their safety.

"The real shame is that the world doesn't seem to have any sort of established cultivation or power system," Su Mo from the Index world added with a shake of his head. Having powerful individuals without a way to train or grow stronger wasn't particularly useful. Angels and demons were present in many worlds; it wasn't anything new. Hearing that, the newcomer Su Mo from the slice-of-life world offered an explanation.

"My world seems pretty peaceful overall," he said. "Even though I've run into quite a few demons and such, there's never been any real casualties. And I've never heard of any major disasters. While humans might have some kind of power systems, none of them really suit me." The only system he had come into contact with was through his neighbor and childhood friend—Yurine Hanazono, a black witch. However, after evaluating him, she concluded that he wasn't suited for black magic. Instead, she told him that if he ever found himself in danger, all he had to do was call her name, and she'd rush over immediately. That said, since Su Mo had never encountered a real crisis, he hadn't tested her claim. And so, to this day, he remained an ordinary person.

"Well, that can't be helped," Su Mo from the Fairy Tail world said, shaking his head. "Still, now that you've gained our powers, your life should get a lot easier." The newcomer Su Mo nodded. "Yeah. It's just a bit of a shame that I can't really contribute anything useful to your worlds." Having gained the power of his counterparts, he had hoped his own world might hold something of value. But it seemed there wasn't much for him to offer. Just as he was feeling a bit regretful—

"Don't be so sure about that," Su Mo from the Index world interjected, shaking his head. "Gabriel might actually have something I need."

"Really?" The newcomer looked pleasantly surprised. Being able to help would, of course, be ideal. Su Mo from the DanMachi world seemed to understand what the Index Su Mo was getting at. "Gabriel only really has two notable features: the Trumpet of Doom, and well… herself."

"You're thinking that the name 'Gabriel' isn't just a coincidence, right? That you might be able to gain Gabriel's attributes through her?" He'd hit the nail on the head. Gabriel's full name was Gabriel White Tenma. The "Gabriel" in her name wasn't just some cute nickname—it was literally "Gabriel," the archangel. The name had likely been softened for the sake of the anime's tone, but it was still the same.

While Gabriel, a recent graduate from Heaven's angel academy, likely wasn't the archangel Gabriel, she was clearly connected in some meaningful way. This connection was further evidenced by her possession of the Trumpet of Doom, an artifact that only the true Gabriel should be able to wield. No matter how you looked at it, Gabriel held a significant portion of the archangel's essence. If Su Mo could obtain her blessing, he might be able to directly inherit some of Gabriel's traits. If that worked, then the ritual conditions for "Acqua of the Back"—a high-level spell from the Right Seat of God—could be met.

The " Acqua of the Back " technique allowed for power amplification. Given Su Mo's current physical capabilities, if his power were doubled by that spell, he'd be on par with the Divine Power of Herculean strength. For close combat, that would be a massive advantage. "Exactly," Su Mo from the Index world confirmed with a nod, acknowledging the DanMachi Su Mo's analysis. "If I can obtain Gabriel's essence, then Acqua of the Back ritual should be no problem."
