Chapter 7 - Level 1 - Unexpected complications Part 4

The guards at the gate stopped him from leaving, but he convinced them that he would be fine. After all he easily entered, so why could he not leave? The guards, although grudgingly, let him go out.

He walked forward with confidence until he was outside of vision from them.

The ashes and burnt ground was a lot more worn surrounding the village as the healthy wind has already started to blow away the remains of the fire. But this was completely missed by Mamon who only focused on one thing.

'This is going to be tricky. Usually you have to hit the boss a few times and exchange some blows until it is worn out, just like your sword and armor. But that is going to be impossible without levelling up.'

He looked around to made sure he wasn't followed, nor was the boss around then looked at his stats.

'14 strength and 12 constitution... I would need 18 and 16 respectively to pull that off... I guess surviving for five minutes it is. It's easier to pull off for sure as I don't have to hit it. But if there is any issue, I could easily get killed.'

He equipped his armor with heavy hearth.

'This will prevent me from getting one shot, but I would still prefer not getting hit. Repairing this armor would cost me enough to set me back by a few days of progress and I will have to grind in that horrible cemetery on the 4th level for it.'

He was looking out for the boss, but there was no sign of it for quiet a while.

'I wonder why is it staying so far from the village? It could simply attack and destroy it. The village was in the middle of the 1st level surrounded by the only forest here. Other than that there were four others in the four cardinal directions outside of the forest. They lost connection to each other due to the horde of undead and the boss, but it seems it is just blocking the people from leaving for some reason. Is there someone controlling it?'

His thoughts were cut short by some noise nearby. He could not identify it, but it wasn't that far.

'Is the boss already here?'

He locked on to the direction the noise was coming from and got ready to dodge, but it wasn't the golem. Three zombies looking like village guards were closing on him. They looked pretty fresh and could even be mistaken for a human, if it would not be for their caved in chests, bones sticking out in some parts and their skin being sickly white while their movements were weird and grotesque.

'Great. Even the people from the previous groups turned into undead.'

He put away his armor while they shambled towards him then he rushed towards them.

'With the damage bonus of the blessing this should be fine.'

As he reached the first one it jumped at him, but only found Mamon's foot in it's mouth as it was kicked back into another one.

- Slowpokes like you have no chance. Do you know what kind of creatures I have beaten already?

'Although with higher dexterity than 10... but they don't need to know that hehe...'

Just as he finished his thought the third one reached him and tried to grab him, but he moved backwards and punched it in the face when it leaned forward to grab him.

'Now the annoying part.'

The zombies didn't even budge from his fist and the other two were already standing.

'They can take a few hits, but are relatively harmless unless there are at least 6 of them.'

He circled around them to group them up.

'Oh what I would give for a small bomb right now...'

But his wishes were not answered so he needed to deal with them himself. When he was behind them he moved in and punched one of them a few times until another one turned around and tried to grab him.

He pushed the one he was punching in the way and kicked the third one that tried to bite him.

'Now I'll back up and get ready for another round. This would be easier with just a few points in dexterity because I could just kick them around. But oh well.'

The one he just punched a few times seemed to be in really bad shape as it's chin was missing and it's left shoulder broke when he kicked the other one into it.

'I guess I'll finish that one off first.'

But just as he was about to move in something grabbed onto his shoulders and bit into his neck.

- Aaahhh...

Another one sneaked up on him while he was preoccupied by the trio.

He started punching it until it let his neck go, then spun around to lose it from himself.

- Oh my god that hurt! What the actual hell?

He held his neck with one hand as he backed away from all four and looked around to see if there are any more.

'I should have known there is more. This game loves tricks like this. But why does it hurt so much?!'

He reached for his waist and tapped it a few times.

'Right! There were no healing fruits left in the village. Now what?'

He looked around for more of them while keeping distance, but it was only the five of them there.

'I guess I should still finish them and then recover with just regeneration.'

He let go of the wound, but it started to hurt even more while his blood flown out rapidly. He held onto the wound again.

'Great! Bleeding effect from a bite. I have to do this with one hand now... '

He looked at them and then frowned.

'Wait a second. Since when are there five of them?'

It seemed he missed one of them joining in when he was bitten.

'They say the more the merrier, but it's too much... Whatever... With one beaten up so badly it's basically still only four. But of course that one is in the back. What a surprise!'

He circled around them to reach the beaten up and jumped in. After a kick it flew back into another and died. The other three tried to grab him at the same time, but he jumped after the one he kicked and then stomped the one under it until it stopped moving. He felt his SP increasing as they passed away.

'That is two hurt out. Now two hurt and one fresh.'

One of them let out a loud roar and the other two followed.

- Stop calling in more of you. It's enough to deal with you three...

He rushed in at the opening and started punching the one that bit him until it was also gone. Then he introduced his elbow to the one on his right and jumped back.

If he would have been just a moment late the last remaining one would have been biting on him. Instead it got it's teeth kicked out by his boot. As it fell back he jumped the other one, tackled it to the ground and pounded it's face like he was preparing a schnitzel.

After it was done he stood up and looked for the last one, but it already had it's head broken in when it fell.

'That was a lucky shot. I was suspecting it would bite me while I was standing up, but I guess it is gone.'

He checked his neck for the bleed and after confirming it was gone he looked around once more. Only five bodies on the ground and the desolate waste was around him.

'I'm glad they did not alert anything with their cry. At least not for now.'

He opened up his stats and looked at the SP he has received.

'1800 huh? I guess it is 20% more than I have expected thanks to the amulet the Gatekeeper gave me. This should be enough to level up once I think. Though I don't remember how much I need for the first few levels exactly. Also, the statue wasn't in the village so I will have to go to the 2nd level to level up.'

He was still missing a quarter of his health so he wanted to avoid the golem at all cost.

A large almost rhythmic stomping sound was coming from behind him as he was thinking of looking through the items of the undead. It seems unfortunately the golem didn't want to avoid him anymore and came to finish the job.

'Oh crab! I can't even avoid it. If I run away, it will just teleport to me. It's one of the most annoying beginner slayers with it's weird bugs. Though after two and half a year I guess it is a feature if it was not fixed by the devs.'

A large shadow loomed over him from the fog as he put on the armor and grabbed the stake from his inventory then hit his knuckles together and got ready for the fight.

- Let's rock baby!

'Okay... That was cringe...'
