"And how will you accept my apology?" she asked in an exhausted voice. The man frowned, not understanding what had changed.
She had not refused him to do his bidding. Yet he felt she had changed completely.
"You are not going to leave the house until I want you to. You will call my mother in front of me and inform her that it was your mistake not mine, and after that your phone would be confiscated so that you could not complain to my mother again. And you will come with me to my business deal in the USA." He knew that he was going overboard by confiscating her phone.
But it serves her right to behave like the world owes her. She stared at him and he raised a brow with a provoking smirk on his face.
"What? Were you not apologizing sincerely earlier that you could even do this much?" his voice was full of disdain for her.
Evelyn's hand clenched into a tight fist. She opened the lock of her phone and dialled Regina's number. It was picked up just after one ring and a melodious voice came from the other side.
"Eve, are you feeling better after the fool apologized to you?" The phone was not on speaker mode. But Damien was standing too close to hear the voice. His eyes hardened at once. The glimmer of guilt that had clutched his chest earlier, vanished in an instant.
"Mom, it is not Damien's mistake!" she whispered softly in a calm voice but the other side did not believe in any word she said. Her mother in law scoffed instantly.
"Eve, you do not need to take his side. This way, he would never learn. You should treat him coldly too for him to learn his lesson. You have spoiled him with your adopting nature. How could he order you to cook so many dishes and then leave without eating them. You know, you should not cook anything for him at all. Let him starve him and eat take outs so that he would learn his lesson.
I will give the housekeeper a few days' holiday so that he would have no one to boss around. Once he would work in the kitchen, only then would he learn the hard work. He could not continue to live his life as a prince." The more the woman spiked, the more she felt resentment growing in her heart. "You know, earlier when I went to meet him, he was even looking at me coldly as if he could even abandon me if needed. It was only my luck that William did not transfer everything to him at once, or that unfilial son would have left us penniless." Just by speaking so much, she took a deep breath trying to calm herself. "If not for you, I don't know where I would have been, Eve. Come home, I miss you."
Evelyn felt a surge of warmth rising in her chest. She had always felt that her mother in law supported too much and it created resentment in Damien. But hearing her voice full of worry explained to her, it was Damien's pettiness that he could not understand the goodwill of his mother.
His mother was nothing but a kind and caring woman. She could not bear the coldness of his son and wanted him to mend his ways. What was so wrong with it? She would have done the same with her child if needed. She was a fool to avoid Regina in this life.
"I will do that mom." she spoke softly this time. Regina noticed the change in her voice and sighed.
"I have truly spoiled Damien, Eve. If only I could turn back time and teach him a lesson when he wronged you for the first time. I thought he was just a child back then." The voice was full of remorse that left Damien speechless.
He did not understand whose mother was she, his or Evelyn's! Every word she spoke was against him and supported Evelny. His chest filled with fury.
He covered the speaker with his fingers and glared at his so-called perfect wife.
"Have you called to clear my name or just to badmouth me on my face." Eve finally came out of her trance and raised her head to look at his dark face. She knew in an instant that he was beyond furious.
"Mom! Who told you that Damien refused to eat breakfast? He was getting late for an urgent meeting so he told me to pack it and bring it to his office. He did not leave it behind." Evelyn lied without batting her eyes.
Damien raised his brow impressed while the line went silent on the other side.
"Ah! I think Mrs Smith made a mistake then. I will scold her for her hasty calling then. But Eve, did he really eat that in the office?" Ecvelny felt bad for accepting the older woman since she only cared about them.
But she did not want Regina to scold Damien again. Because it would change nothing. Damien was beyond saving. And she had no hopes in him. Now, she only wanted him to suffer just like she had suffered in her past life. But for that, she had to make sure that he continued to trust her.
And for that, she did not mind bowing her head in front of him. She would have the last laugh in the end.
"Yes, mom. And he even praised my cooking." the woman smiled and sighed at the other end.
"Finally he is learning some manners. Hmph, tell him that he is still worth saving. Now go and rest. And fix a date with him later. When you come, I will cook for both of you. You should not strain yourself too much, darling." Eve took a deep breath and nodded. She exchanged some pleasantries before cutting the call.
"Did you hear that? I was not the one who complained to her." since I am relieved that I do not need to cook for you anymore."
