"Lilith," Cyrus called as she walked out of her room. It was the execution day.
"Cyrus," She replied, waiting to hear whatever he had to say.
"I'm sorry Lilith, I know this is too late, and it's way past the time I'm supposed to have said anything, but I'm sorry, I know nothing's going to happen between us again, I just wanted you to know how sorry I was," he apologized and she nodded without an argument.
"It's okay, I've forgiven you a long time ago," Lilith said and left to meet Aria who was waiting at the end of the corridor.
Cyrus regressed to the wall, his head hung low in regret.
"Cyrus," Caden called, walking toward him with an air of urgency, oblivious to the turmoil in the man's chest.
Cyrus straightened, quickly wiping a hand down his face. "Yeah. I'm coming."
Caden studied him briefly. "You okay?"
Cyrus forced a nod. "Fine."
But he wasn't. His heart was heavy with the weight of what he had lost — and what could never be salvaged.
