The shield shattered, its radiant threads collapsing into dust.
Leo was launched like a bullet.
He smashed through a street pole, then collided with a parked truck, metal folding around him with a deafening crunch.
"LEO!!"
Amy Croft's scream cracked through the air.
Vernon turned slowly, deliberately. His massive figure cast a shadow over her.
His voice was cold and amused.
"Now you."
Amy's jaw clenched.

Wind began to spiral around her arms, circling in faster and faster loops—her vortex power condensing, compressing, vibrating in place like a sawblade made of atmosphere.
