Westview Middle School, Room 203
(It's time.)
The classroom was like any other—plastic chairs, worn floors, a ticking clock that dragged on longer than any lecture. From the shadows of the broken ceiling above, I watched through narrowed eyes.
Leo sat in the third row, two seats from the window. Next to him, Jeasus—the tech-obsessed kid who reminded me of myself once, before the wars, before the secrets. Leo was distracted, tapping his pencil, mind drifting… he always looked out the window when he was nervous.
He had no idea.
None of them did.
Mrs. Burner stood at the front, mid-sentence about something chemical—her tone dry, as always. The classroom buzzed with the same lazy tension every morning had. The same mundane rhythm I once lived in too.
But that world?
Was over.
I'd counted the days. 1 year. 365 sunrises, 365 silent promises whispered into the wind.
The time had come.
