Snape's textbook contained not only a wealth of potion notes but is also two spells of his own creation.
One of the spells was Levicorpus, and the other was Sectumsempra.
Damon had no desire to refine Sectumsempra, so he briefly reviewed the overall concept and then discarded it—in terms of power, his Divine Lance far top it.
Instead, the apparently ordinary Levicorpus spell upset his interest.
It caused a wizard to dangle upside down, even spinning in place. Several spells with similar effects existed, but they were either difficult to perform or, due to their widespread use, were easily resisted or countered with counterspells.
After careful consideration, the young Snape refined these spells—that's one was silent.
This is a real strength for Damon
After all, the spell itself was not difficult, having been widely used during Snape's time as a student. Damon had mastered it almost immediately after studying the principles.
Although the tips on silent spellcasting were somewhat interesting, they could be of use to him.
After over a year of diligent study, Damon's journey in spells was nearing its end, and it was time to start looking for supplementary materials.
Apparition, Patronus, Occlumency, and Legilimency—four profound branches of magic—had already been mastered.
He wasn't planning to learn the three Unforgivable Curses, so he focused on refining silent and wandless spellcasting, as well as improving spells.
Alchemy beforehand, but after careful consideration, he decided to hold off for now. Until he was certain he had completed the necessary knowledge, he didn't believe diverting his attention to a new and complex subject would significantly impact his combat effectiveness.
Everything he did was Superb towards practical proficiency—and, more fundamentally, safety.
Harry's fragments of Voldemort's soul remain unresolved. Voldemort will return eventually , and Harry needs the more power to defeat or even crush Voldemort in direct fighting.
Currently, he lacks the confidence to overwhelm a prodigy's decades of magical mastery with just one year's study.
On Saturday, Professor Flitwick brought in a Dementor—or rather, a Boggart taking the form of one. Though not a real Dementor, the Boggart's transformation still carried the same terrifying presence and retained the ability to drain happiness, just like the creature it mimicked. Therefore, today's practice had an additional audience: a Ravenclaw graduate who, after graduation, had personally experienced the Dementor's absorption, making it his greatest fear.
At the request of Headmaster Flitwick, he had come from out of town to assist.
Even though the subject of the practice was Damon, Flitwick remained somewhat concerned.
On the table where the lesson plan was being prepared lay a full afternoon tea set: macarons, cookies, cakes, chocolates, all sweet treats, but all meant to bring joy.
"Are you ready? Damon, be very careful. If you can't summon a Patronus within three seconds, I will intervene immediately."
"I'm ready, Professor."
Damon's face was calm, yet a hint of nervousness lingered within him.
Dementors can drain people's happiness, causing depression and despair in those who approach them.
They can also absorb a person's soul, transforming them into a walking corpse, leaving only an "empty shell." This is why Dementors are often described as "demons that absorb the souls of others."
Normally, summoning a Patronus is relatively easy, but when faced with Dementors or in danger, many people's Patronus Charms fail. He couldn't guarantee a successful first try.
Flitwick nodded, motioning to the student beside him.
He nodded, a touch of fear in his heart, but to help Professor Flitwick, he felt obliged.
The box containing the Boggart didn't explode immediately after it was opened. Instead, after a delay of two or three seconds, a Dementor slowly emerged from the crate.
Its hooded face turned toward the graduate, and a glowing, scabby, rotting hand grasped its cloak. The lights around the classroom flickered and went out.
A bone-chilling cold filled the office, and it seemed as if it was about to take a deep breath!
"Damon!" Flitwick urged anxiously—he didn't want his student to suffer a second blow from the Dementor.
Damon's speed was faster than his voice. He barely needed to recall any happy memories. The moment he uttered the Expecto Patronus spell, a thick white mist roared from his body with a force far greater than ever before. Its eagle-like claws grasped the Dementor, holding it tightly, preventing it from moving even a step.
The Ravenclaw graduate breathed a sigh of relief, feeling the chill instantly dissipate. Looking at the terrifying creature before him, a flicker of courage surged within him.
"Another success!"
Professor Flitwick's eyes widened as he gazed at the magical creature before Damon—
silver-white light and shadows coalesced and swirled in the air, a thick, misty magic seemingly taking on life, wriggling and forming spontaneously in the air.
A long, slender figure with gleaming silver scales shimmered in the dim classroom. Its wingless body hovered in mid-air, tail wrapped around Damon's neck, as it pushed the Dementor back into the box. But this one...he had never seen it before.
"What kind of animal is this?"
The exercise concluded successfully.
Watching the silver dragon's whiskers gently flutter in the air, taking in the tranquility and majesty within, Flitwick asked in amazement.
Damon surveyed the divine-looking Patronus, surprised to discover it lacked eyes. A glint of understanding crossed his eyes—it looked like it was just one step short.
Sure enough, this step wasn't going to be easy.
However, with its current power, it seemed more than enough to deal with the Dementor.
He sensed that if it weren't for the limited space, his Patronus would be much larger—limiting its effectiveness. Otherwise, the Dementor would have retreated instantly, rather than being slowly pushed back.
"It's a dragon."
"Dragon?" Professor Flitwick asked, distributing macarons and gently patting the pale graduate's shoulder in reassurance. "It's very different from any dragon I've ever seen."
"Well, maybe it's because I love Chinese culture. It's a Chinese dragon."
The ferocious, majestic creature returned to Damon's side, entangling him from head to toe. It looked like some kind of special effect, drawing envy from the graduates nearby.
He hadn't even learned the Patronus Charm yet, let alone possessed such a majestic Patronus.
What kind of monster was this student before him? According to Professor Flitwick, he's only in his second year?
"It's truly amazing, comparable to Dumbledore's phoenix—I've never seen such a creature before. Where does this magical animal live? I really want to see it with my own eyes."
Flitwick looked at the eyeless dragon, feeling both regretful and delighted.
