Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Mizunotsuki Yoru

According to the intel extracted from Suikazan Fuguki's mind, Mizunotsuki Yoru is currently fourteen years old. He serves as the captain of Kirigakure's First ANBU Squad. A prodigy without parallel, he's known within the village as the rising star of the Hidden Mist—feared and revered as the 'Blade of the Blood Mist.'"

Yamanaka Santian closed his eyes, organizing the memory fragments in his mind. Then, glancing down at the written report in hand, he continued calmly:

"Mizunotsuki Yoru was born into the Yuki Clan. His father, Mizunotsuki Kuro, was a respected clan member. However, his mother was an ordinary civilian from Kirigakure."

"Because he fell in love with a non-clan woman, Mizunotsuki Kuro faced severe ostracization within the Yuki Clan. Later, during a mission, he was killed under suspicious circumstances."

"That same year, Mizunotsuki Yoru was born. But perhaps due to diluted bloodline purity, Yoru failed to inherit the Ice Release Kekkei Genkai. In fact, he only possessed a single chakra nature—Water. Not even Wind was present."

"As a result, both mother and child were cast out of the Yuki Clan."

Santian paused. Across from him, Jiraiya's brows furrowed deeply.

He had assumed Yoru was a genius directly descended from the Yuki Clan. But now, it seemed Yoru wasn't even officially recognized as a clan member.

Then again—such treatment wasn't uncommon among bloodline clans.

Maintaining purity was paramount. And once Mizunotsuki Kuro died, casting out his mixed-blood child and outsider wife, while cold, was exactly the kind of thing a bloodline clan would do.

Even Konoha had seen similar things.

But this was the Blood Mist Village, after all…

"After being expelled, Yoru's mother struggled to raise him alone. But as a low-ranking shinobi with little skill, she was injured during a mission and required urgent treatment."

"At the time, five-year-old Yoru begged the Yuki Clan for help—but was rejected."

"Though assistance came later from Elder Genji, one of Kirigakure's council members, it was already too late."

"After burying his mother with his own hands, Yoru was taken in by Elder Genji. He was granted the opportunity to enter the village's shinobi academy."

"From the moment he entered the academy, Mizunotsuki Yoru displayed unparalleled talent. Within a single year, he completed the full curriculum."

"To graduate under the Blood Mist regime, one had to kill all their classmates. And Yoru did just that."

"Upon graduating, he was taken as a personal disciple by Elder Genji himself, and directly placed into the ANBU."

"He served under Kurisame Tsurumaru, head of Kirigakure's assassination division and wielder of the long blade Nuibari."

Jiraiya's eyes narrowed again.

Losing one's mother at five… becoming the student of a cold, political elder… and being shaped by the bloody furnace that was the Hidden Mist Academy?

A child cast out by his clan.

A child who watched his mother die helplessly.

A child molded into a weapon in the cruelest village on the continent.

Elder Genji...

Jiraiya remembered that name.

One of Kirigakure's true puppet-masters.

Even Yagura, Kirigakure's most gifted rising star, was once his disciple.

"After joining ANBU, Mizunotsuki Yoru's talents became even more pronounced."

"In just three years, he became the youngest ANBU squad captain, serving as Kurisame Tsurumaru's right-hand man."

"His missions had a 100% success rate. Not a single failure. He became infamous as the 'Blade of the Blood Mist.'"

"He commands a range of esoteric techniques that deviate entirely from standard shinobi practices. His Shunshin no Jutsu, kenjutsu, and infiltration skills are exceptional—few in Kirigakure can match him."

"He's known internally as 'The All-Around Prodigy,' and 'Kirigakure's Star of Tomorrow,' on par with even Yagura."

The more Jiraiya heard, the quieter he grew.

This was no ordinary genius.

This was a monster forged by blood, isolation, and hatred.

But one question continued to gnaw at him.

"You're sure Mizunotsuki Yoru only had a single chakra nature—Water?"

"That's correct," Santian confirmed.

"According to Fuguki's memories, he never awakened Ice Release. No signs of the Kekkei Genkai ever appeared. The Yuki Clan never approached him. He never used it, either."

Ice Release, as a bloodline limit, required at least Water and Wind natures.

Without both, it simply couldn't manifest.

Mizunotsuki Yoru had only Water, so he was never considered a true inheritor of the bloodline—and was thus expelled.

But then...

If Yoru never had Ice Release—

What the hell did Jiraiya and Fugaku witness during that fight?

"False diagnostics?"

"Or a late awakening...?"

Jiraiya frowned.

Chakra natures could be trained over time. Most jōnin had at least two affinities.

But could that alone unlock a bloodline limit?

That much, even Jiraiya couldn't say for certain.

Still, this report gave him a clear picture.

And the clearer the picture became, the more his heart sank.

"This is bad. That kid will definitely enter the main battlefield soon. His power alone could replace the Seven Ninja Swordsmen."

"Add Yagura and Kirigakure's full force on top of that..."

"We have to request backup. Immediately."

And not just anyone.

"Someone!"

Jiraiya turned. A masked Konoha ANBU appeared instantly at his side.

"Jiraiya-sama."

"Take this intel on Mizunotsuki Yoru, along with our frontline combat reports, and deliver it to the Hokage at once."

"We'll need reinforcements—as strong as possible."

"...In fact," Jiraiya said grimly, images flashing through his mind—

That terrifying Shunshin, rivaling the Flying Thunder God Technique…

"If possible, tell the Hokage to send Minato."

"And go quickly!"

Jiraiya repeated the last word, voice sharp.

The ANBU nodded.

Face unreadable behind the mask, he took the scrolls and vanished without hesitation.

Jiraiya stood in silence.

"What a troublesome little bastard..."

To think someone so young, so composed, so powerful—

could escape him not once, but multiple times...

If Mizunotsuki Yoru's actions ever led to Konoha's defeat…

Jiraiya would never forgive himself.
