Chapter 9 - Not again

To this the tree lowered its branches and stole a hug. Then raised its branches, waving them indicating that it was happy.

I burst out laughing and everyone else joined me. Angie just smiled. Kiway sent us away saying that it is late.

We said goodbye to kiway and Priska then headed home. When we got home we found mom cooking and we had supper with Nehu.

Narrating everything that happened during the day as mom laughed at some things about our day. Listening attentively at all the serious parts.vc

At some points we where all talking at the same time. Which she found to be really funny.

After supper Nehu said good night and good bye, giving us hand shakes and our mother a warriors bow, then she left to go home.

The next day. I woke up and did my normal routine, then strapped my claws and went into the forest.

Before I could reach the high trees. I came across the half blind Spikeres and it was already charging, so I had to run.

The direction which I had gone while in my panicked state had no high trees either.

There was a stream but it was so shallow, that I believe that I could pass quickly. To get to the trees that are high, on the other side.

The Spikeres was catching up though, so I would have to hurry.

I got to the stream and tried to cross quickly but I lost footing and fell.

The water was not deep but the Spikeres was right there about to jab me with its big horn.

I HELD MY BREATH AND CLOSED MY EYE'S. Wishing that I could disappear instead of being jabbed. I could here the Spikeres breathing hard and the continuation of its stomping feet on the ground but I felt no pain.

Did I just die on impact so I can't feel any pain. If death is not painful then it was fine with me. I opened my eyes and my surrounding was wet and brown like mud.

Not again! does this mean, I am in a dream again. Before the worms start crawling into all the wholes, I'd better get a way out of this mud.

This time I tried to swim up but was not getting anywhere, probably because I was not trying hard enough.

I don't like worms but the Spikeres only leads to sudden death which was worse.

The Spikeres was roaming around above my head, like it had lost something.

It would go past where I am, then return to the spot above me. Kicking back with its hoofs. Then go past and return again.

It did this for a while and I wondered if this is a dream or not.

Then I had a nice idea. If this is a dream, that would mean I could do anything I imagine. Meaning I could get the Spikeres stuck in the mud.

To try this out, first I will have to, swim deeper and away from the place it saw me disappear.

Which is what I started working on and this time I had progress, as I moved away, just like I was swimming.

Then I imagined, that the Spikeres will sink into the mud. When it returned to the spot where I disappeared.

The Spikeres which was probably controlled by my brain, returned to the spot again.

Once I saw it's feet in the mud, from where I was. I thought about the soil around it becoming hard, so that it would be stuck.

Once it could no longer move I swam up and was able to come up to the surface.

Even though this is a dream. I still went back home to bath, because the mud only reminded me of the worms.

I got to the hut and walked right through to my room. Took of the clothes and went straight to the bath.

When I wake up there will be no mess, since this is a dream. when I was done bathing I went to bed. Hoping that I will wake up to a better day.

After a couple of hours Angelique came into my room singing her morning song. She woke me up then asked about all the muddy evidence that led straight to my room.

I looked at her funny so she pointed to the muddy tiger skin on the floor, which had foot steps of clear mud going backwards from the tiger skin.

With my re-collection, of what had happened. There was only one way of confirming. That any of the things had happened. Unless of course , if Angie is also in my dream.

I dragged her explaining, that something was off and I needed her to be with me so I don't go crazy.

She let me drag her out the hut and into the forest. Then going through to the stream, taking the same root the Spikeres had taken, as it charged at me.

which was easy to follow because it broke a lot of trees while chasing me.

As I moved passed all the broken trees. I kept thinking that , if this is not a dream then I have officially gone mad.

When we got to the stream and I saw the stuck Spikeres. I could no longer hold it in. Angelique I am officially mad.

Why is the Spikeres stuck in hard dry mud, while the rest of the mud is visibly wet?

I asked this so loudly, that the Spikeres tried to turn to look in our direction. As it got angry and agitated making loud bellowing sounds.

Angelique looked at me fascinated, by my rhetorical questions. Knowing that, I only asked questions like that, when I was nervous.

She then said okay Carter breathe and look at me. Ignore the Spikeres and explain what happened. In as much detail as possible and as slowly as possible.

I looked at her still thinking she is only going to confirm, that I am crazy.

I tried to go slow but the words where spilling out of my mouth, as I narrated what had happened.

From after walking into the forest to the point where we stood now, looking at the stuck Spikeres.

She went blank, for a while. Then pulled the brave face, she always makes when I need her to protect me. This happens when she is also scared but has to act tough.
