Leilani watched as the man pressed a button from his wheelchair, and then it wheeled him back gently.
"Where…" she trailed off when he wheeled to the door.
"I will be expecting your answer, Leilani," he said, and the door opened.
She opened her mouth, wondering what had just happened, and then tilted her head.
He was expecting her answer.
She was definitely not going to accept his proposal but if by chance she wanted to, how the hell was she going to reach him?
She had no phone with her and looking around the room, there was no contact card that the man might have left for her so she could reach him.
"Very… weird," she tilted her head and then adjusted gently.
After a while of laying in the bed, with her eyes closed, the door slid open and she sprang up in alert as the unfamiliar, unfriendly-looking man trailed in.
"Who…" she swallowed when he stopped by her bedside.
"Boss asked me to give this to you," he said and then dropped the box on the drawer beside her bed.
He gave her a short bow and then exited the room.
Leilani sat upright, picked up the box, and shook it gently hoping she could catch a whiff of whatever was in the box before she opened it. However, when she got nothing, she unboxed it gently and then raised her brows.
There was a cell phone there and a black card. It had just his name, Lorenzo Byers, and his number imprinted on it.
Leilani switched on the phone and then instantly after realizing that she could access the internet, she typed out the man's name in it.
LORENZO BYERS.
She knew he was no ordinary man!
According to the internet, he was the first son of a conglomerate family and after his accident eight months ago, he had pretty much lost himself as he had become icey, brutal, and then cranky.
He had no other choice than to step down from his position in his father's company after his accident and his position was given to his brother.
"T… this is the person who… who wants to enact revenge for me?" she stuttered, a wave of disappointment rushing her.
He looked like he had nothing but his family's influence and she wondered if that was enough for him to fight for her as he had said.
But then again, there was something else about this man.
There was something about him that kept piquing her interest.
Leilani knew this was the time to run.
She thought this man could not help her and was only going to use her just as Jonathan had used her.
She looked up at the intravenous drip that was still dripping and then wondered if she should pull it out and just run.
While she thought, torn in between, the door pushed open and the doctor entered.
She swallowed hard, nodded her head gently at him when he waved his hand at her, and then moved to the IV stand.
"I… I thought this was the last dosage," she said.
He only shook his head and then pulled the liquid from the bottle to the syringe.
"When can I get discharged, please?" she asked.
But he only nodded his head.
Leilani drew her brows in suspicion, exhaled, and then tightened her grip around her phone.
He was no doctor. She could bet her life on that.
As the supposed doctor inserted the needle in the Intravenous drip, she pulled out the needle from her hand and then dashed out of the room.
"Hey!" the man yelled after her which confirmed her doubt.
It was the same person.
She would never forget his voice. Never!
Leilani kept running down the hall, screaming and pulling attention to her which made the man stop going after her and then turn to another direction.
She breathed heavily as the nurses gathered her, but she didn't stay. She brushed past them, running away.
They could be trying to kill her too.
They could be under disguise too.
She pushed the door to a room open and fortunately, it was a store for the medical tools and there was no one in sight.
She closed the door from behind and then gasped.
Why were they still trying to kill her?
She was out of their lives already?!
Why would they never let her rest even when she was away from them?!
Remembering that the phone and card were still in her hand.
Frantically, she input the number on the phone and then dialed it.
Shaking her legs impatiently, waiting for the man to pick up, she gnashed her teeth together.
"Hello!" she exclaimed when he finally picked up.
"I was not expecting your call anytime soon," came his thick, yet calm voice.
"Please…" she sobbed quietly.
"Leilani?"
"Please… come and take me away from here," she pleaded, crying profusely.
"What is–"
"I will marry you, so, come and get me away from here, fuck!" she cried out.
A long silence ensued for a while before she cleared her throat and then said again.
"Don't tell me… you've changed your mind…" she swallowed the lump in her throat, hoping that was not the case.
"Why would I? I am on my way, as a matter of fact," he said.
