Chapter 13 - Class Division Exam [5]

Regression is not as simple of a concept as depicted in stories, usually.

In most of the cases, the regressor remembers what happened before their regression.

And only the regressor remembers.

All the other characters don't really remember anything and are back to how they started.

There are different types of regressions too.

One is total regression, to the starting of the story.

Then, there is one where you regress back to a particular save point, not to the starting.

Whatever the case, except the regressor, no one actually remembers what had already happened.

But, my case was already different.

I neither remember when I regressed here, nor do I remember who I was before transmigrating into this web novel world.

Still, I somehow know how these stories usually work.

Well, keeping that fact aside, I always had a question in mind.

What if someone, or some main character of the story remembers what happened, before I regressed, meaning they know everything that's gonna happen till the point where I regressed?

That would have terrifying implications.

Because if someone else remembers events from a previous timeline—my timeline—it means two things.

One: I am not the only anomaly in this world.

Two: Someone might already be planning my downfall, based on actions I haven't even committed yet.

Dorian Valen is a villain in this story.

And not just some third rate villain who dies early, but a mid boss, who shakes the very existence of this Empire Sylvanna.

Of course, he must have committed some serious crimes, before I transmigrated into his body and regressed.

Yes.

That would explain Monica Croft's behaviour right now.

She pushed me out of the carriage, onto the ground.

As I looked around there was really not a single trace of life as far as I could see.

It was almost as if I had travelled to a different realm altogether.

Monica Croft, was a fire elemental user.

In the initial part of the story, she was depicted as one of the strongest characters, due to her inheritance of her Family's innate technique of Fiery Dance of the Dragon.

So, at my current level I am no match for her.

She stood with her arms crossed, her crimson eyes glowing faintly in the dimness of the realm.

Her long brown hair danced behind her as if caught in an invisible flame, mirroring the rage simmering beneath her composed expression.

Each of her words and actions screamed out the fact that she has retained her memory of the events before regression.

And she just declared to kill me.

As I said, I can't win against her. Not at my current level.

So, is giving up the only option left for me?

According to the rules of the regression set by the system, if I fail to do any task I regress back to the previous save point, with my memories erased.

That means I will just regress back if I die anyway.

But, what would happen to her?

Wait a second...

Doesn't that mean...

"Any last words?", Monica unsheathed her sword and pointed at my neck as I lay on the ground.

It was then, it hit me.

"Heh....he heh heh ....hahahahaha hahahah....."

The laugh of a maniac escaped my mouth as I realised this simple fact.

"Have you gone insane finally?", Monica asked, visibly surprised.

I always had this sensation of emptiness since after I regressed.

I mean, it would have been expected since I lost my memory.

But, on the basis of perceiving this reality too, I always felt empty inside.

But, now that emptiness seems to be filling little by little.

Yes.

This is how I am.

This is how I must have been before the memory loss too.

This is me.

Then I asked a simple question to her, which left her astonished.

"How many times has it been of this same conversation?"
