Under the onslaught of the ice-earth storm, the Golden Dragon Bodyguard began to falter. Despite the Auspicious Beast's best efforts to dodge, countless earth drills and ice spikes still managed to scrape her skin, leaving shallow cuts.
She gritted her teeth as she watched the silver wolf, who was already gathering more silver orbs, clearly intending to press its advantage. She hadn't expected her previous kill move to be completely dodged.
Just now, she had used her second soul skill, Life Shift, in combination with her fourth soul skill, Golden Dragon Claws. Life Shift allowed her to leap across space by following the gradient of life energy—moving from areas of higher concentration to lower. In theory, if life energy continually declined between two points, she could teleport across vast distances instantly—even thousands of miles.
But in reality, the distribution of life energy wasn't that ideal. All she'd managed was to shift from beneath the trees to the air above the silver wolf's head, where the life energy was slightly weaker.
She could forcibly shape and control the life energy in the air to assist this ability, but doing so would require a longer charge-up time.
Her plan had been simple and devastating: descend from above with Life Shift, then follow through with the Golden Dragon Claws' soul skill, a golden projection of tearing dragon talons. It should've been a killing blow.
What she hadn't expected was that the silver wolf had a spatial ability of its own and had managed to teleport away just in time.
Indeed, under normal circumstances, a millennium-level silver wolf would be incapable of using spatial power unless it had evolved into a Silvermoon Wolf King or even a Silvermoon Emperor. But by sacrificing its own silver wolf blood essence, it had temporarily gained access to a one-time elemental ability of its choice.
As the elemental storm gradually subsided and another round of silver orbs came hurling in, the Auspicious Beast stared at the distant wolf and murmured,
"Silver wolf... Silver Dragon King... maybe there really is a trace of connection between the two. I underestimated you."
She had heard her father Di Tian mention the ancient legend of the dragon race—the Dragon God, split in two by the Asura God, giving rise to the Silver Dragon King who governed elements, and the Golden Dragon King who embodied pure power. She herself carried traces of the Golden Dragon King's blood, and she knew the Silver Dragon King still slept beneath the Lake of Life.
She had even secretly overheard Di Tian speaking to his master—the Silver Dragon King.
This silver wolf did seem to wield elemental versatility, but it was still far from being a true descendant of the Silver Dragon King.
All the more reason for her to stop holding back.
'This silver wolf may only be seven to eight thousand years in cultivation, but its strength rivals many ten-thousand-year soul beasts. What's it doing in such a remote place?'
"In that case, you've earned the right to face me at full power."
Another silver orb blasted toward her, but this time, the Auspicious Beast stood unmoving. Her emerald eyes darkened into a regal shade of dark gold, and her pupils morphed into vertical dragon slits. In her right hand, a golden spear slowly materialized.
At first, it was just a shimmering outline, but it quickly solidified into a radiant five-meter-long spear of pure gold. Faint green runes swirled along its shaft—not scales, but subtle dragon-shaped markings.
This was the Golden Dragon Spear.
Taken from the Divine Realm by the God of Destruction, passed to the Goddess of Life, and finally gifted by her own hand to the Auspicious Beast. Ancient texts recorded that only those with a Golden Dragon martial soul could wield this weapon. Anyone else who touched it would have their life force instantly drained. Within a radius of a hundred meters, all life would be devoured, and no material barrier could prevent it.
Once it absorbed enough life force, the soul sleeping within it—the soul of the Golden Dragon—would awaken and carry the spear away to find its next rightful heir.
The Auspicious Beast's martial soul was the Golden Dragon, and her life attribute was innate. With divine intervention, the spear had undergone mysterious changes, becoming a divine weapon capable of harmonizing with both the life attribute and the Golden Dragon martial soul.
She gripped the spear tightly in her right hand and raised it high, pointing it at the silver wolf. Despite the incoming silver orb, she showed no fear, assuming a poised throwing stance.
The silver wolf felt it—the terrifying pressure not just from the weapon, but from the activated bloodline of the Golden Dragon within her. Its fur bristled. Alarm bells rang in its mind.
It turned to flee—but it was too late.
"Go."
She threw the spear.
It was swift, fluid, and deadly.
Boosted by her second soul skill, Power of the Dragon, the throw carried a strength-augmented force beyond natural limits. The Golden Dragon Spear screamed through the air, breaking the sound barrier in an instant.
By the time the sonic boom echoed out, the tip had already pierced through the silver wolf's body.
Frozen in terror, it didn't even get the chance to yelp. The spear carried it backward until it slammed into the trunk of a tree—where it was finally pinned still.
The silver wolf was long dead. The truly chilling part was what came next—the green light emanating from the spear as it continuously absorbed the wolf's life force. Its corpse shriveled rapidly, collapsing into a dry husk.
The silver orb it had fired moments earlier was shattered in mid-air by the shockwave of the supersonic throw.
Expression calm, the Auspicious Beast raised her right hand once more. The Golden Dragon Spear answered her call, flying back from the wolf's body. The absorbed life energy was now surging visibly through the weapon, and the green glow flowed from the spear into her own body.
Yes—the Golden Dragon Spear still retained its life-devouring ability. But now, that energy could be fully absorbed by its rightful wielder: the Auspicious Beast, who controlled the power of life.
As the purified life energy coursed through her, she closed her eyes in satisfaction. The sensation was intoxicating.
Sure, this ability had a slightly wicked nature to it—but she didn't intend to misuse it. Absorbing the life force of those she defeated was simply a way to replenish her strength.
After all, life energy, unlike soul power, could be stored within her infinitely. Her life-attribute soul skills didn't even need soul power to activate—they could run entirely on life force.
Of course, it was beneficial to gather more life energy, but she would never go out of her way to turn on the spear's devour mode against innocent beings. The Goddess of Life's kindness still influenced her greatly.
In fact, the Golden Dragon Spear's devouring ability opened up many possible strategies—such as combining it with her Life Shift soul skill for greater versatility.
