The soul engineers buzzed with excitement and intense discussion. This Powered Armor could be considered a revolutionary creation in the Sun Moon Empire's centuries-long history.
If equipped with a fully sealed soul power bottle and worn by a Soul King-level or higher member of the National Guardian Soul Engineer Legion, it could dramatically enhance each warrior's overall abilities. With a sealed bottle providing uninterrupted energy for various attack methods, combined with defensive soul tool shields and the armor's own reinforced metal shell, even if the Powered Armor were destroyed in battle, the user inside could still escape completely unharmed—aside from some mental strain—and be ready to fight again.
What was truly frightening, though, was the possibility of outfitting ordinary people and even failed soul masters with Powered Armor that had minimal spiritual power requirements. This would allow those who previously couldn't even lift a weapon to possess combat power on par with soul masters, complete with both offense and defense.
In fact, the reason the current prototype demanded high spiritual power was simply because the soul engineers had taken the shortcut of designing it to be entirely controlled via mental commands. If a manual control system were developed instead, the spiritual power requirements would be greatly reduced.
With so many exciting possibilities, how could the soul engineers not be absolutely thrilled?
"Yuhao, how about giving this Powered Armor a proper name? Any objections, everyone?"
Jing Hongchen's voice rang through the vast workshop. Not a single soul engineer raised an objection.
Not just because they didn't dare defy the Hall Master of Mingde Hall, but also because Huo Yuhao's groundbreaking mechanical system contributed at least half the credit for the Powered Armor's development. It was only right that he be the one to name it.
"Let's call it Sun Moon Radiance. The Sun Moon Radiance: Generation One Powered Armor. What do you think?"
"Hahaha, excellent! What a name—Sun Moon Radiance!"
Jing Hongchen could barely contain his joy. He was already fantasizing about mass production and selling it to the military.
But seeing the red-rimmed eyes of the exhausted engineers around him, he felt a pang of guilt.
"Everyone, take a break. Go home and think about how we might further improve this Powered Armor. At Mingde Hall, we won't just develop high-performance versions for the elite warriors of the National Guardian Legion. We must also create models that can be mass-produced and equipped to lower-ranked soul engineers, and even ordinary soldiers."
"And we also need to start considering how to develop larger-scale mechas. The ultra-large humanoid soul tools can be set aside for now. The future will keep us busy—understood?"
Huo Yuhao had become unbelievably busy over the past few days.
Ever since the prototype of the Sun Moon Radiance: Generation One was born, and Xuan Ziwen successfully developed the sealed soul power bottle three days later, Huo Yuhao had turned into the busiest person in all of Mingde Hall.
The development of sealed bottle-type soul tools needed him. The improvement of the Powered Armor needed him. The early design of full mechas also needed him. Huo Yuhao was constantly rushing around the entire hall, either participating in discussions, drafting schematics, crafting soul tools, or guiding other Mingde Hall researchers.
At this point, Huo Yuhao barely considered himself a student of the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineering Academy anymore. Skipping class had become the norm.
Now that the Powered Armor improvements had entered a stable stage, with two mature designs ready for mass production, Huo Yuhao finally had a brief moment of rest—only to be summoned again by Xuan Ziwen to his lab.
"What is it this time, Teacher Xuan?"
These days, with Jing Hongchen preoccupied negotiating with the military about the Powered Armor's production, he had little time to personally instruct Huo Yuhao. So he had temporarily left that responsibility to Xuan Ziwen.
To be fair, their relationship was less like teacher and student now and more like research partners. Xuan Ziwen would teach Huo Yuhao advanced soul tool knowledge, and in return, Huo Yuhao would share adapted technology and principles from Earth, modified to suit this world.
Xuan Ziwen didn't say anything. Wearing a pair of night vision goggles, he simply pointed toward a cube-shaped device.
Huo Yuhao looked closely. It seemed familiar.
Wait—why was the room so dark? When he walked in, he had instinctively used his Spirit Eyes to see, so he hadn't noticed.
Then, Xuan Ziwen pressed a button on the device. It began to hum, and the soul-powered lights around the room lit up one by one.
Now Huo Yuhao recognized what the cube was.
"This is a generator I built based on the sealed bottle concept. Its energy conversion efficiency is solid. A single fourth-rank sealed bottle can power a hundred first-rank soul lamps for three straight days. The soul power to electricity conversion efficiency is surprisingly high."
If one were to use raw soul power to directly power the lamps, it wouldn't last nearly as long due to the severe loss during the transfer process.
That was the advantage electricity held over soul power—lower energy density, but far greater stability.
Huo Yuhao guessed that in the original story, around ten thousand years in the future, Douluo Continent would also begin using electricity in civilian areas.
Seeing how efficient a single generator was already, he felt that building power stations and laying electric grids across Mingdu and the Sun Moon Empire could be done far sooner than expected.
But not just yet. As much as he didn't want Xu Tiannan to take the throne, Huo Yuhao had to admit—having such a bold and decisive emperor would make his large-scale infrastructure projects much easier to push forward.
The current emperor, being more traditional and about to abdicate, wouldn't want to initiate anything too drastic.
"Very impressive. Maybe we can keep testing to find out the upper limits of soul tool levels that can be powered by electricity."
Xuan Ziwen nodded, then said, "I get the feeling… we need a unit to measure electrical power."
With the help of Huo Yuhao's prior knowledge from his past life, the two of them spent some time at the blackboard, working out calculations. They eventually devised a full set of standard electrical units that could be applied in this world.
The names were identical to the ones on Earth, which gave Huo Yuhao a small sense of nostalgic comfort.
"If we want to supply power for the entire city of Mingdu, we'll first need a power station. Then we need to lay the electric grid, and finally we need to popularize civilian soul tools that run on electricity. That's the general idea, right, Yuhao?"
Huo Yuhao looked at Xuan Ziwen in surprise and nodded. His ability to absorb and adapt to new concepts was incredible. No wonder he was Mingde Hall's chief researcher and the disciple of Kong Deming.
"Exactly."
Compared to Earth, setting up an electric grid in this world would be easier. Even the weakest ordinary people in Douluo Continent had a trace of soul power in their bodies, and their physical endurance wasn't low. The low-voltage electricity transmitted through the grid would be little more than a tickle to them. That meant safety measures could be more relaxed.
Staring at the generator he had created, Xuan Ziwen muttered, "If the power station is close to Mingdu, there's no problem. But if it's a bit farther away, power loss becomes an issue. Unless… we can increase the strength of the current."
