Chapter 5 - Chapter 5- Two Bugs

Wu Tangge's Perspective

The engagement ceremony was finally over.

Elders exchanged cups of celestial wine. Courtiers sang praises. The Wu and Lin clans had officially formed a powerful alliance in the eyes of the Immortal Realm.

But to me, the ceremony was a noose—and the thread of that noose was held in the hands of Yun Ling'er.

I sat in the guest pavilion, sipping tea that tasted like ash in my mouth. My mind wasn't on the taste. It was on the whisper she left me with:

"No matter how many times the world resets… I will kill you again."

She remembers everything. That wasn't a suspicion anymore—it was fact.

And somehow, she thinks I'm the same Wu Tangge who betrayed her.

System, I whispered mentally. Why didn't her name show up in the memories you gave me?

Ding!

Host received Wu Tangge's primary memories only. Key emotional bindings were sealed by his own will.

So… even in his last life, Wu Tangge tried to bury what he did to her?

I looked out the window, watching her laugh with Lin Clan elders. She was good at pretending, but I knew better now. Her every move was a test. A trap. And one mistake from me… she'd end me before I could breathe the next word.

The door opened gently, and my mother entered—Wu Yun, robed in purple, her face calm but sharp.

She bowed her head slightly. "You did well, my son."

I gave a tired smile. "Well enough to stay alive."

Wu Yun's expression turned serious, and she cast a silence barrier around the room. "I saw her eyes," she said. "She remembers."

"I know."

"She'll strike," my mother whispered. "Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But she will."

"I don't want to hurt her," I admitted.

She paused. "Do you… feel for her?"

I didn't answer. Because the truth scared me.

Yun Ling'er's Perspective

After the ceremony, I stood on the high balcony overlooking my clan's jade lake. The moonlight shimmered across the water's surface like broken mirrors.

Behind me, Elder Lin softly approached. "Child… I'm proud of how you handled today. The Wu Clan is powerful. Their support will help the Lin Clan rise again."

I nodded silently. If only you knew what he really was.

After the elder left, I remained, arms folded, gaze cold.

There was no celebration in my heart.

Only fury. And pain.

And confusion.

Because when I looked at Wu Tangge earlier… something didn't feel the same.

His aura wasn't twisted like before. His words didn't hold venom. He looked at me not like prey… but with something close to guilt.

No, I told myself. He's a snake. A master of disguise. Don't fall for it.

I would not hesitate to tear it away.

Wu Tangge's Perspective

Night in the Lin Clan was peaceful—or so it seemed.

I sat cross-legged on the bed in the guest room, cultivating the Heavenly Immortal Dao Codex. Spirit energy flowed gently through my meridians, clearing my mind, strengthening my core. The soft flicker of a jade lamp cast calm shadows across the room.

But then…

A flicker passed by the window—fast, too fast for any servant or wandering bird.

I opened my eyes, senses sharp. I stood slowly, turning to the window.

"Who's there?" I asked calmly, my voice carrying authority.

No reply.

But silence is louder than sound when danger hides within it.

In the next breath, a dark figure shot through the window like a viper, fist blazing with immortal energy.

I raised both arms instinctively, blocking the strike. The force shook my body—but not enough to break me.

Before I could counter, the assassin struck again.

I dodged, slipping to the side, and leapt through the open window to draw the fight away from the guest quarters.

Just as my feet hit the courtyard tiles—whoosh—a gleam of steel sliced through the air.

Another attacker was waiting.

I twisted, but too late—the blade slashed across my left arm and tore through my robes.

Blood dripped down my wrist.

"Tch…"

I gritted my teeth and launched Heavenly God's Palm, a glowing blast of divine energy.

But the first assassin, now outside as well, raised a defensive barrier and deflected it.

The two of them stood side by side now, cloaked in shadow.

Their auras… both at Immortal - 1st Layer.

This wasn't just an ambush.

This was an execution.

"So," I said, narrowing my eyes, "I think I know who sent you."

The surroundings shimmered oddly. The courtyard, the sky above—it was all wrong. I realized it then:

This entire area has been isolated into a spatial barrier.

First assassin smirked. "You're smarter than we thought. Yes, this is a hidden space. No one can hear you scream."

Second laughed. "Now give up. We'll make it painless."

I exhaled slowly. "So this is a separate space…"

I raised my head, grinning.

"Perfect."

Second assassin blinked. "What?"

"Now I can test it."

"Test what?"

I let the darkness rise.

"My Evil God powers."

Their faces changed instantly.

"E-Evil God—what did you say?" the first stammered, voice trembling.

"I'm the successor of the Evil God," I said, my voice turning low, distorted with power. "You picked the worst possible person to target tonight."

Evil Transformation: Activated.

My irises turned a glowing purple, pupils slitting like a serpent's. Dark energy surged from within, coiling around me—black and purple, chaotic and majestic.

The world grew heavy with dread.

Second assassin stepped back. "Y-You… Evil God… the one who tried to destroy the Immortal Realm?"

I grinned.

"You know me then."

In a blink, I vanished.

Boom!

Reappearing before the first assassin, my hand pierced through his chest before he could react. My fingers wrapped around his still-beating heart.

"Wha—!"

I ripped it free and let his body collapse with a dull thud.

The second man turned to run, terror painted across his face.

But before he took two steps, I stood in front of him again—my aura pressing on him like a falling star.

His legs buckled.

"I-I'll serve you!" he begged, dropping to his knees. "Please! I'll do anything—just don't kill me!"

I said nothing.

I only stared.

With a single flick of my hand, his skull exploded—splattering blood across the cracked stone.
