Once I had recovered from the effects of the magic, I got the chance to enjoy their cheers and bows. The scene was breathtaking, and for the first time, I actually felt like a god.
Before, I just proclaimed it in faith—that it would happen someday—but now it was right before me. People weren't treating me like a king or a guardian. In their eyes, I was a divine being that transcended the capabilities of mortals.
Glancing through the crowd, I felt a surge of excitement flow through me, but then my ear perked up as I heard a sound in the distance.
Throom-throom-throom!
It was the sound of galloping, and I wasn't the only one who heard it. Everywhere went quiet as we all looked into the distance in silence. It took nearly a minute, but a soldier in broken armor, soaked in blood and smeared with dirt, rode toward us with a terribly fearful look in his eyes.
My eyes narrowed, but my heart swelled with joy. I knew this meant the action was about to start.
