Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

Chapter 16

It's been over two months since I came into this world.

From what I've gathered, Qin Jinnan truly loved his late wife.A love so deep, it lingers still—etched into his every silence.

No wonder so many Raiders failed before me.My odds feel slimmer by the day.

Even the white texts seem to have given up on me.They don't scold me anymore. They don't even bother mocking me.

Perhaps they've finally realized it too—That my presence feels like a desecration.Like I'm intruding on a sacred memory. An outsider threatening the last remaining link to his wife.

I don't have a past here.And, honestly, I can't see much of a future either.

So then—Should I keep going with this pitiful illusion of hope?

I was lost in thought, staring blankly over the edge of the book in my arms.It was thick and heavy, blocking part of my vision. And before I knew it—I bumped into someone.

Coffee spilled everywhere.Onto the book, and more disastrously, onto a white suit.

The woman in front of me was stunning. Elegant. Composed—until now.

Her snow-white lapel was stained brown.

"I'm so sorry," I said quickly, trying to wipe the book. "I wasn't watching where I—"

Her voice cut through mine—sharp and laced with irritation.

"Who let you in?"

I stammered an explanation. "I work for the bookstore downstairs. I'm just delivering—"

She sneered. "I don't recall any department doing business with some… shabby little bookstore."
