Chapter 44 - chapter 44

Damian (calm but firm):

See you tomorrow.

And I'm sorry… if my truth hurts you.

[Damian walks away. Mr. Mah stays behind, frozen, shaken by Damian's emotional outburst—the first time he's heard his true voice.]

Mr. Mah (softly to himself):

I never knew… he was holding so much in.

Damian enters his apartment, furious. He throws his phone onto the sofa and storms into the bathroom to freshen up. Meanwhile, his phone buzzes repeatedly on the sofa. Incoming call after call lights up the screen — all from "Mom" and "Dad."

After several missed calls, a message pops up from his mother.

Mom's Message:

"Don't worry. We will make everything right, son. Please pick up Mom's call. I'm really worried."

Damian storms out of the bathroom, still frustrated. He grabs his bike keys, puts on a mask, leaves his phone on the couch, and heads down to the basement. There, he removes the mask and slips on a black helmet. Without a word, he starts his bike and rides off at full speed down the quiet, empty streets.

He soon reaches the edge of the city—a small mountain with a stairway leading up to a scenic sunset point. It's already midnight, so the place is deserted. Damian puts his mask back on and begins climbing the stairs slowly, his footsteps echoing in the silence.

At the top, he walks to the railing, staring at the glittering lights of the city below.

Damian (softly):

"I wish people's hearts were as glamorous as this city."

He removes his mask, grips the railing tightly, and steps onto the narrow cement ledge that holds the railing.

Damian (shouting):

"Why can't they just leave me alone?!"

Suddenly, a hand grabs him and yanks him back. He falls to the ground in shock, quickly covering half his face with his hand.

Standing over him is the café manager—an elderly woman, the same one from Ella's workplace.

Grandma (firmly):

"Kids these days... never think about their parents before trying to take their own lives."

Damian (quickly):

"Hey! I wasn't going to do anything wrong—really!"

He lowers his hand slightly to speak, then immediately covers his face again.

Grandma (calmly):

"If you're not ashamed, then why are you hiding your face?"

Damian:

"I'm not hiding it because I'm ashamed. And I wasn't going to jump, alright?"

She gently removes his hand and studies his face.

Grandma (smiling softly):

"You're a handsome young man. Why cover up such a face?"

Damian (shocked):

"You... you don't know who I am?"

Grandma (shrugging):

"President's son? Celebrity? Someone important?"

Damian (confused, almost hopeful):

"You really don't recognize me, Grandmother?"

She gazes at him with kind but unreadable eyes.

Damian (softly):

"Sorry... Can I call you Grandmother?"

Grandma (gently):

"Seems like you're carrying a heavy burden, child. Go home now... It's already midnight."

Grandma begins walking slowly down the stairs. Damian runs after her.

Damian: Grandmother, do you really not know me?

Grandma: No, I don't. I don't even know what my own son looks like now! (snaps without turning)
