"Ki and solar energy are the same" – False. Solar energy fuels the body; ki emerges from will.
FINAL NOTE:
Kryptonians are very inconsistently written, so this is how I understand them to be, more or less, and how their abilities function. Given environmental factors and abilities displayed with and without proximity to a red sun, they should not be rendered useless with exposure to red sun radiation, given that they evolved under a red sun and in much denser gravity.
