(Ember POV)
'What do one do when everything they hold dear is about to be lost?' I thought inwardly.
I tilted my head towards the sky, 'so pain is really the price we pay for love.' Tears streamed down my face.
The emotions in my eyes grew distant, becoming colder and colder as if fading away. I rose to my feet, wobbling slightly, as my legs became cramped from sitting too long.
I walked slowly towards the castle. I have never felt so hollow and empty, even though I was called a Chosen I was forsaken, like the universe was against me. The powers I had were not even enough to save myself.
By the time I got to the door of Damon's room, I froze for a long time. I stared at the dark brown door. Every time I had opened it in the past, it felt like a new chapter of my life was being written, the only place I could associate with home.
My fingers trembled as I reached for the doorknob. A sad smile formed on my lips as I turned the knob, pushing the door open.
