"So, tell me, how have you been? I hope Alpha Damon did not make life too difficult for you?" Caroline asked as we headed back to the pack house.
"Not really… but you know how he is. My life hasn't been good, but it hasn't been bad either." I cleared my throat, remembering the night before.
"I'm happy for you. At least you have someone to protect you." Lydia patted my shoulders.
"Well, not for long," I muttered under my breath, but they heard it anyway.
"Why do you say so?" Caroline intertwined her fingers with mine before flashing me a smile, her doe eyes squinting slightly.
How does she manage to smile after everything they have been through?
"Because he is getting a mate."
"Oh," they both said in unison.
"We know that is going to happen sooner or later. You don't need to feel bad for me." I forced a smile at them.
