My stomach grumbled angrily as he mentioned that I must be hungry, red hue crept on my cheeks. 'Why do you have to make a noise now? How embarrassing?'
I crossed my arms across my stomach, as if holding it would stop the gurgling noise, but another wave of grumbling came again, which made me tighten my arms around it, but each wave was louder than the last.
When I raised up my head, I saw his gaze glinting with amusement. "Come with me." He turned, walking out of the door. I followed after him, wishing the ground would open up and swallow me. As much as I was hungry, what I really needed right now was to get some sleep.
The cold wind brushed my skin, making me shiver slightly. I rubbed my arms to make them warm. We took several turns, which made my head spin.
Suddenly, the smell of baked fresh bread, grilled chicken, meats, and boiled rice assaulted my nostril. My mouth salivated, and my steps hastened as we entered a very warm room. My steps halted when I saw the dining table filled with different sorts of food. Okay, I take my words back, I needed to eat more than sleep.
At the sight of the food, my stomach grumbled more. The little bastard was so impatient. I had this strange urge to rush there and gobble the food, but how could I do that? That is not how a demure lady like me acts.
I swallowed as I stood beside Damon as he took his seat. Seeing that he was seated, I decided to take mine, but I was only halfway to sitting down when I felt a piercing cold aura around me, which made me stop midway.
Knowing where the aura was coming from, I turned to Damon, whose eyes had darkened. 'Okay, what now?'
"How dare you?" His voice thundered through the hall.
My body trembled as I whimpered, baring my neck at him as I fell on my knees. 'That bastard just used a fucking alpha voice at me!' I gritted my teeth.
My body relaxed when I felt his aura receding away. "How dare you sit on the same table as your master, Ember?" he drawled, his voice softened as if he didn't just release a death-chilling aura.
"I'm sorry, master… I'll do my best to be a better… p..pet." The words were like a venomous, bitter liquid in my mouth. The term master and pet made my blood boil underneath my skin. Anyway, the term pet is better than slave.
"Where should I sit… Master?"
"On the floor, of course." He mused, his eyes fixated on me.
'How dare he! He wants me to sit on the ground and eat? How degrading!' I've been trying my best to be a good pet all this while, but the dumbass is making me boil with so much anger. My fingers clenched tightly into a fist.
"Got a problem with that?" he said lazily.
"Yes," the word left my mouth before I could take it back. I raised my head, meeting his gaze, and I saw the look of surprise flickering through his eyes.
His gaze hardened again. He nodded his head, signaling me to go on. "You bought me as a breeder," I began, "which means I'll definitely give birth to your pups." Although the words left a distaste in my mouth, there is no way I'm going to eat on the floor, even if I have to play to his tune. The wise knows when to adapt.
"So can you bear seeing the future mother of your pups eating on the floor? And besides, you said I'm your pet, but this isn't how you treat your pet. Pets are well loved and cared for by their masters, which include gaining access to a lot of their master's properties and activities. If you call me your pet, can't you even bend the rules for me? I'm your pet, not your slave, so treat me like one." I ranted.
Deep down, I felt a little better that I was able to talk to him, expressing myself freely. I blinked my eyes at him, but he stared at me like I had just fallen from the sky. Suddenly, he inched closer to me, his dark eyes holding mine. I couldn't look away. It was like I was being pulled like a magnet. His masculine scent made me want to bury myself in his arms. I gulped nervously.
He raised his hand up, which made me shut my eyes, fearing he was going to hit me, but then I felt his warm pat on my head. "You are right, I should be able to bend the rules for my pet. Come sit close to me."
Hearing his words was like a grim reaper waiting to harvest my soul. 'Just like that? He didn't argue back? And he didn't warn me not to lecture him.' I cried inwardly, knowing how he would say one thing while meaning the other.
"Master, I think you are right…" I began while nodding my head, "The ground suits me best. Pets eat under their master's table." I said quickly, grabbing a piece of bread from the table, shoving it in my mouth before sitting cross-legged on the floor.
I stared, blinking at him as I forcefully chewed down on my food. My cheeks hurt as my mouth stuffed like that of a squirrel.
Then he pulled back, his facial expression going back to its normal cold form. My heart pounded in my chest, cold beads of sweat dripping down my face. I was just so close to being buried and sent to heaven.
"You are such a smart pet," he muttered as he brought me a plate of rice. Afterwards, he began to cut the meat in pieces.
"Thank you, master." I quickly collected the bowl of rice. 'This bastard wants me to eat plain rice? Anyway, it is better than having my limbs ripped off.' I thought inwardly as I picked up my spoon. About to dig it in the rice, another plate appeared from the corner of my eyes. When I raised my head up, I saw him handing me a plate of meat which was already cut.
My eyes instantly lit up. I collected the plate, my mouth salivating from the mere aroma. A smile tugged on my lips. He sure had a 0.1 percent inkling of how to treat a lady.
