Chapter 17 - The secret this academy holds

While Ryker and I were still searching for more information, Tamphasana also came, as she was also finding information. She looks more focused than I thought. She was holding a book.

She took a glance at us. Her gaze stopped at Ryker, who was reading carefully. I saw something in her that sparked curiosity in me. Is she really in love? Noticing my eyes, she turned and left to do more research.

My thought races to the moment when we made eye contact. Many questions were rolling through my mind. It was some time before I focused on the book.

It was so quiet in here, time flew and a peaceful silence was carved inside me. I was just staring at the pages, bored, when my attention shift to Ryker as he was calling.

He showed me the book he was holding. A worn-out book that looked nothing special, I didn't expect much. I was reading it, and I was shocked.

As the war between humans and demons continues, fear among the people grows. They feared for their future and committed to changing their future. Not everyone is the same.

Some became the believers of the demon lord. They became outcasts in society. But their feeling that the demon lord would spare if they worshipped him became their firm belief. It only grew, and never ended.

Those people have formed an organisation; all ages are welcome. They believe it is a sin to be born, so helping the demon is not wrong. It is a way to fulfilled the meaning of their lives. They corrupt the brain of young children making them their tool. Even powerful people began to be involved with them. The king, the nobles, and much more.

It was not in just one place not just one kingdom everywhere cause they wanted to save their own butt. The nobles and royal motives were elsewhere, they only wanted to use it as a way to grow their power.

Knowing its dangerous for their kingdom they still do it. They sacrificed the heroes chosen by the goddess to the organisation. They killed the heroes to remove any threat to demon lord.

It was done to protect the demon lord, cause if the heroes were killed, the demon lord would never be defeated.

Tamphasana was passing by. She was shocked to see the book in our hands. She came to us with a terrified face almost angry.

" Can you be more careful if someone sees you with this book, you might even be killed. It's a banned book." She said " Has anyone read this book other than you two."

" Why?" Ryker asked.

" As you have read, it contains information they might not like others to find out." She responded she seems like she wanted to snatch the book.

I asked, " Then why is it here?"

" Might be accidentally left while removing banned books from here. More importantly, you can't read that." She said.

" It does contain some interesting facts about the heroes," Ryker said.

She looked speechless, Was my prediction correct? Was she an enemy?

" I think you wouldn't mind telling us," Ryker said, his voice calm.

Tamphasana wasn't in the mood to answer, " I'm letting it slide this time but if you were found with this kind of book the king might execute you."

She snatched the book and took it away. She hide it to keep it away from other attention and left with it.

"It's just my intuition, but something big is gonna happen," he said still calm.

I said, " Yeah, and I'm sure now that the King is planning something horrible."

" How can you be sure?" He asked.

" Maybe feeling or overthinking," I said.

He said, " You might be right, and I think the reason for Tamphasana joining us to fight the demon lord is also part of the king's plan."

" Really,"

" Why do you look so shocked?"

" It's just that I thought she might have another reason."

" If you are thinking she joined because of me, that doesn't add me. I mean like, why would she? Maybe she wanted to hide the real reason, lame tactics." he shook his head.

"Let's head back, we have been here for a very long time," I suggest.

We came back where everyone was. I joined my friend, unfortunately, Mary was also there.

Maipakpi asked me, "Where have you been?"

"I was just doing some research," I replied.

Ningthibi chimed in, "I saw you came in with Ryker. Were you with him the entire time?"

"You two seem really close," Maipakpi added.

Mary sneered, "It's pointless; you were rejected by Tyler, and there's no way Ryker would be interested in someone like you."

"I never claimed he liked me, and whether he does or not is none of your business. Maybe you should focus on your own life instead of poking your nose into mine. I'm perfectly fine on my own, so I'm not buying into your nonsense," I shot back.

The look on her face was priceless as she continued to ramble on about various things.

She speaks as if she knows every detail about me, inside and out, highlighting all my flaws to make me feel ashamed while overlooking her own. We would have kept on arguing if my friend hadn't stepped in to break it up. I heard a quiet voice say, "She thinks she's so perfect while she's sitting here, utterly useless."

I could have guessed whose voice this was, but I didn't want to break another fight.

Our group broke and tried to find things to do. Maipakpi, Ningthibi, and I went out to sightsee. Leina also joined us.

Nobody talked about what had happened. Leina was awkward with the silence since she did not know what had happened.

I have greater matters at hand and I got provoked by just small thing. Controls your emotions. I thought.

The school ended students were rushing out of class. After some time, we have to head back too.

We were walking around the academy then I heard a voice, " Sister."
