The sound echoed through the room.
Asher immediately started to get up, but Zane rolled onto his side and groaned.
"Why do you always have to open it?" Zane muttered. "We both know the script by now. You open the door, some girl barges in, and suddenly it's 'Zane this, Zane that.' Then you sulk in the corner after she ignores your world-class flirting."
Asher froze mid-step. "…world-class?"
Zane ignored him. "If I were you, I'd sit back down and try to sleep like me. Oh wait—" he smirked under his pillow, "—I forgot. You didn't have a teddy hugger glued to your back last night."
Asher's face went red. "Don't. Start."
Before he could argue more, a voice came through the door.
"Hey, is anyone in here? I'm looking for Asher."
Asher blinked and slowly turned toward Zane.
Zane tilted his head lazily, one eyebrow raised behind the blindfold. "Well, well. That's new. They usually ask for me first."
Asher muttered, "Don't start."
Zane smirked wider. "Oh, I'm already starting."
