Avery's eyes adjusted slowly to the darkness of the cave , the sound of the waterfall outside creating a soothing background hum .
Julian's hand found hers , his fingers intertwining with hers in a comforting grip . " We'll be okay ," he whispered .
Avery nodded , her mind racing with thoughts of their pursuer . Who or what was it ? And why were they so desperate to catch them ?
As they sat there , Avery began to notice strange symbols etched into the walls of the cave . They seemed to pulse with a faint , otherworldly glow .
Julian followed her gaze , his eyes narrowing .
" What are these symbols ?" he wondered .
Avery shook her head , feeling a shiver run down her spine . " I don't know ," she said . " But I think they might be some kind of protection ."
Julian's eyes locked onto hers , his expression serious . " Protection from what ?" he asked .
Avery hesitated , unsure of how to answer . But as she looked at the symbols , she felt a strange sense of calm wash over her .
" I think they're protecting us from our pursuer ," she said finally .
Julian's eyes narrowed , his jaw clenched in determination . " Then we'll figure out our next move when it's safe .
Avery nodded , feeling a sense of gratitude toward Julian . He was her rock , her protector .
But as they sat there , Avery couldn't shake the feeling that they were far from safe . Their pursuer was still out there , waiting for them .
And Avery knew that they couldn't hide forever .
