Selina slumped onto the bed, her exhausted gaze fixed on the ceiling, thoughts scattered and overwhelmed. Lying there in despair, she couldn't shake the tiredness that seeped into her bones, pulling her toward drowsiness.
In the passing moment, her sleep lingered until the doorbell rang. Sharp. Insistent.
Beep!
Beep!
The sound pierced through the fog of her sleep, urgent and impossible to ignore.
Beep!
Beep!
Beep!
Selina squeezed her eyes shut, frustration coiling in her chest, almost forcing a curse to escape at whoever had interrupted her brief peace. Wearily, she turned her gaze to the closed door of her room, as if she could see through it and pinpoint the intruder.
She wanted to ignore the persistent ringing, but the doorbell's desperate persistence refused to be ignored. She had no choice but to push herself upright and walk toward the door.
