"You'd go this far? Push me to break my decades-long promise?"
Zane lowered his gaze, his voice carrying a faint trace of contrition. "I'm sorry I failed you. You wanted me to get married, and I did."
"Not to her!" Elder Lucas retorted, sounding exasperated.
"But my choice… my intentions… they lie with her now. I can't let go of her. Never will I." He uttered, his tone unwavering like a dark vow.
With his face burning in rage, Elder Lucas frowned in suspicion at Zane's unwavering determination. "I sent you away from everyone, gave you little time to form a bond…"
"This bond is already formed. Let me see to the end," Zane said politely.
Elder Lucas's expression remained unreadable and turned to Butler Jude, who had just entered.
"Take me home."
"Of course, Chairman."
As the Chairman departed, Zane watched silently, puzzled. He had expected a harsher reaction, knowing how determined the elders had been to bind him to Clarissa despite his countless rejections.
