Tightening her grip around the cold metal with each passing minute, Selina fixed her eyes on the open entrance where the sunset colored the clouds as she waited for Annabelle to arrive at the police station.
After what felt like hours, Selina finally spotted Annabelle rushing inside, her coat flapping as she moved urgently. Annabelle had been her best friend since Selina left the Everett family and began venturing into the world alone to survive.
Without Annabelle, Selina would have been consumed by loneliness while waiting to meet her father again.
As Annabelle drew closer to the station, a junior officer stopped her.
"Where are you going, Miss? Is there a report you want to make?" he asked.
"I'm here to see my friend. She called me over," Annabelle replied.
"It's not visiting hours. You can come back tomorrow," the officer said.
Before Selina could speak up, the detective who had interrogated her intervened.
"Let her through. She's already been called," he said.
