Kamui's technique, Binding Dead Impurity, was a power unique to the Basara—much like the Binding God Spell was for onmyōji.
Since Kamui was going all out, Charles decided to show him the respect of doing the same.
He brought out the Flame Dragon Mirror Sigil, a talisman he had just successfully completed after pouring in extensive effort—from ordinary spell tags all the way to a talisman capable of triggering a Binding God Spell.
The result was a Binding God Spell unique to Charles.
The Evil Dragon and Dragon Slayer appeared in his hands. Charles placed both into the talisman's magic field.
The first to change were the gauntlets themselves.
The Evil Dragon turned blood-red, its dragon-scale armor flaring outward and elongating into sharp, savage protrusions. Jagged spikes sprouted at the knuckles and joints, becoming a clawed weapon worthy of its name.
The Dragon Slayer grew bulkier, with dense, dark-red patterns etching across its plating, becoming a menacing armored gauntlet.
Charles himself transformed as well. His shoulder-length hair extended until it trailed along the ground. His body was cloaked in red light, etched with mysterious glowing lines.
Kamui laughed maniacally as he crushed the ground beneath him with a stomp and launched himself at Charles with a flying kick.
Charles raised the Dragon Slayer to block.
Kamui's kick landed with such force that the ground behind Charles erupted from the shockwave.
With his other hand, now clawed with the Evil Dragon, Charles swiped at Kamui.
Five crimson flame slashes tore through the air, hitting Kamui and sending him flying.
"This is just too fun!"
Rather than being intimidated by Charles's overwhelming power, Kamui's fighting spirit only burned hotter.
Dark purple jūryoku coiled around his legs, and Kamui charged once more.
Charles summoned his magic and threw a punch to meet him.
A second later, the air exploded with shockwaves and the sound of clashing flesh and bone. Their strikes were so fast they exceeded the speed of sound—too many to count within just seconds.
Kamui's kick landed on Charles's side, but Charles stood unmoved, and countered with a heavy punch from the Dragon Slayer.
Kamui coughed up dark purple blood as he was launched backwards.
After crashing through stone and collapsing buildings, he was embedded in a giant boulder.
Even the massive rock shattered. Kamui fell to the ground, braced himself on one knee, and slowly stood.
Dark purple jūryoku swirled around him again—this time forming into the shape of a beast.
Charles smirked. "Oh? You can still power up?"
He raised his arm as the Evil Dragon's scales flared. Flames roared out, forming a fire dragon behind him.
Kamui, now cloaked in jūryoku-beast form, lunged and bit toward Charles in a feral rush.
Charles met the attack with a flaming punch.
With a thunderous blast, purple jūryoku and red flames split the sky down the middle.
The fire began to burn away the beast-form, purifying its essence. Through the dissolving jūryoku, Charles could see Kamui's wild-eyed expression.
Kamui roared and kicked through the flames, forcing Charles back a step.
But Kamui had paid the price—his jūryoku beast-form was nearly obliterated, leaving only flickering remnants clinging to his body. His clothing was tattered, and wounds covered his frame.
"Now this is real combat! This is joy itself! How could it end now? I can keep going!"
Charles raised an eyebrow at Kamui's skyward cackle. Something was changing.
The broken, dark jūryoku surrounding Kamui faded. The net-like pattern on his chest glowed, and pale violet energy began to spread across his body.
In a flash, Kamui's form transformed. His body took on a semi-ethereal energy state, and the tattered clothes were replaced by a crude suit of armor.
He now resembled Rokuro and Yuto Ijika in their late-stage transformations from the original plot.
In other words—Kamui had leveled up.
Charles had already suspected he was in the anime version of the world after seeing Tsuchimikado Arima—but this evolution confirmed it. Kamui had never reached this form in the anime.
In the manga, Kamui evolved into a never-before-seen fourth-stage Impurity to protect Benio, having touched on human emotions through the "curse of love."
Clearly, that wasn't the case here. Kamui had powered up solely from sheer battle frenzy.
But even so, the power Charles now sensed was completely different.
Kamui rushed forward with renewed strength and threw a punch.
Charles swore inwardly. What was more annoying than someone randomly evolving mid-fight?! He finally understood how antagonists felt when faced with indestructible protagonists.
Still, this was perfect. A powered-up Kamui would make for an ideal test subject for Charles's new Binding God Spell.
With that thought, he met Kamui head-on.
Their fists collided, and for the first time, Charles felt a bit of strain. But he adapted quickly.
What followed resembled a heavily edited film—the ground split open under Kamui's punch one second, and the next, Charles was sent flying through a boulder.
The terrain looked like it had been gouged by a giant blade. It was the aftermath of their titanic clashes.
"Dragon Roar Burst—By the decree of this spell!"
Charles landed and fused scattered debris into his magic, summoning several massive flame dragons.
He swept his arm, and the dragons launched at Kamui.
Kamui halted his charge and began kicking the flame constructs apart. The explosion of shattered rock and flames lit up the battlefield like fireworks.
As he crushed the final dragon, Charles burst through the debris and landed a punch squarely on Kamui.
Kamui gritted through the pain and funneled massive jūryoku into his palm, detonating it against Charles's body.
The explosion forced them apart. Both staggered, glaring at each other, ready for another round.
But at that moment, a talisman floated between them.
"That's enough, boys!" came a voice.
Descending from the sky in a Hawaiian shirt, Tsuchimikado Arima landed and raised both hands.
Charles lowered his fist. "You bastard… what are you planning this time?"
Charles was willing to listen—but Kamui wasn't. To him, no one interfered with a good fight.
Unfortunately for Kamui, he'd exhausted nearly all of his jūryoku. He took one step forward—then dropped to one knee. His advanced form flickered and collapsed.
Arima had waited for this moment, of course—always with perfect timing.
"Mr. Basara," he said cheerfully. "I'll ask you to take your leave now."
As Arima's words fell, dozens of talismans encircled Kamui and engulfed him in light. When the light faded, Kamui was gone.
Had Kamui still been at full strength, Arima's spell likely wouldn't have worked. But now he was powerless to resist.
Charles deactivated his Binding God Spell—the Flame Dragon Mirror Sigil had passed its field test. He was more than satisfied with the result.
