Chapter 48 - Lycurgus's Surprise

"I was worried that doing so would make Sister Tribbie think I was being too reckless and impulsive."

Hearing Tribbie's praise, Derick felt a little embarrassed.

"Little Derick was already very restrained. That fellow is so detestable, I wanted to hit him too." Tribbie patted Derick's arm, showing great support for his actions.

The Elder standing nearby didn't know what kind of expression to make.

Tribbie saw this and quickly explained, "Don't worry, don't worry, I know you're not with them. Little Derick is a kind child, he won't lay a hand on you."

"Mm-hmm." The Elder nodded reluctantly.

"Then let's go."

Tribbie walked forward, with Derick and Castorice following behind her. The Elder at the very back wiped his sweat and walked at the end of the group.

After some thought, this Elder gritted his teeth and said, "Lady Tribios, this inquiry at the Elder Council will be very unfavorable for you. Although most of the Elders in the Elder Council will not choose to completely align with Caenis, they are very much looking forward to Lady Aglaea's failure this time and the abilities of Lord Derick."

"If you cannot come up with sufficient reasons to refute Caenis, even I will not be able to choose to stand on your side."

"Thank you for your honesty, Your Excellency," Castorice nodded in gratitude.

"It's nothing, it's nothing. We also want Okhema to become better. Caenis and her group's actions are meant to throw Okhema into chaos, and I don't wish to see Okhema become even more chaotic. I am still young; since I was born, I have seen the Golden Lineage protecting Okhema. Although not much progress has been made, at least they have protected us from the erosion of the Black Tide. I hope this safety can continue."

"Rest assured, it definitely will."

Tribbie assured him.

"I believe in Lady Tribios."

After this conversation, the atmosphere eased considerably. This Elder moved closer to Derick and Tribbie; he still didn't dare to get too close to Castorice and maintained a safe distance.

While walking, this Elder from the Elder Council also recounted Caenis's words to Derick and the others. Anyway, Aglaea was well aware of the situation in Okhema, so there was no need for the Elder to hide anything from Derick and his companions.

Through this Elder, Derick also sensed the current mentality of the Elder Council members. They had expectations for what Caenis said and proposed, but it was unrealistic to say that this expectation meant they could abandon everything. After all, what Caenis thought and did was too illusory and impractical.

When Caenis spoke with great fervor, they would be infected by the atmosphere and agree with her words. But when they calmed down, or when others pointed it out, people would also see the unreliability of Caenis's actions.

This made Derick feel a little more at ease.

It was good that not everyone was siding with Caenis. If that were the case, he would really have no choice but to run away with Castorice.

The Elder Council had arranged for Dading Beasts to serve as transportation. Everyone except Castorice mounted the Dading Beasts and slowly advanced towards Dawncloud Cliff.

On the way, Castorice was constantly thinking, pondering how to speak to the Elders of the Elder Council on Derick's behalf. She had a similar understanding in her heart of what Derick was thinking.

But she was a little worried.

Caenis had been in the Elder Council for many years, and her rhetoric, speech, and debate skills were all very sophisticated. And whether it was the Elder Council or the Citizen Assembly, their thoughts were easily swayed by others' words.

"I must not fall behind Caenis in debate."

Castorice felt that she absolutely had to be able to stand up and debate with Caenis.

The Dading Beasts slowly carried everyone to Dawncloud Cliff. Upon entering Dawncloud Cliff, the first place they arrived at was the Sacred Path of Dawncloud. This was where the Elder Council received guests and where the clerks of the Elder Council carried out their daily work.

When Derick arrived, Aglaea, Trianne, and Trinnon were already waiting for them there.

"Little Derick, Little Castie, did you encounter any trouble?" Trianne asked Derick and Castorice.

Derick smiled and shook his head, "No, it was just a small matter."

The Elder standing to the side, upon seeing this, silently wiped his sweat. A small matter? A single greatsword had knocked an Elder unconscious and knocked out all his teeth.

"Um, I still need to prepare for the meeting later, so I'll take my leave first."

"Mm, see you later, Your Excellency," Derick bid him farewell.

Aglaea looked at Derick and said softly, "Derick, since you've already learned a lot from that Elder, you should have some mental preparation for this Elder Council meeting, right?"

"Mm."

Derick nodded.

"Caenis is an eloquent person; her oratory skills and ability to incite are very strong. Be careful later, don't fall for her schemes," Aglaea reminded Derick.

"Of course, you don't need to be too nervous. Caenis's primary target later will be me. She will deal with me first before dealing with you."

Castorice then spoke, "Lady Aglaea, can Derick and I speak together later?"

"Of course, you can," Aglaea affirmed with a nod.

Then she looked behind her, chuckled softly, and said, "I was right, wasn't I, Your Excellency Lycurgus."

"Indeed, Lady Aglaea. I am here to help Lady Caenis confirm the attendees for the council meeting later."

Hearing this, Derick looked behind him and saw an Intellitron humanoid figure resembling a plaster statue, adorned with various devices, and a large hole in its chest.

Is this Lycurgus?

Others might not know, but Derick knew a little about him. He was very likely one of Amphoreus's Emanators, at least capable of threatening the likes of Great Herta.

Although he might be slightly weaker than Great Herta, his strength was still incomparably greater than Derick's current power.

His gaze lowered slightly, making Derick feel a sensation of being scanned. However, Derick only felt this scanning sensation on the surface; it couldn't penetrate deeper.

Can't even Lycurgus see through me?

And on the other side,

Lycurgus appeared calm on the surface, but he was also slightly surprised internally.

He actually couldn't see through the inner workings of the young man before him.

What is the origin of this young man called Derick?

He was curious, but it wasn't appropriate to continue probing.

Although Lycurgus's strength was very high, the restrictions he faced in Amphoreus were also significant. At the very least, he absolutely could not engage in actions like attacking.

Just like his title here. In Amphoreus, he was merely a spectator. The audience below the stage could influence the actors on stage through applause and so on, but they absolutely could not go on stage to perform themselves.
