Chapter 186 - Actions and Implications Part 2

The elementalist raised his hands.

Before I could scream to stop Yuxia, hundreds of colorful threads of mana suddenly burst out of his fingers.

The many threads began to align themselves together. Fusing into thicker colorful threads.

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Enchantment has levelled up twice to level 3!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Intermediate Fire Magic has levelled up to level 6!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Intermediate Earth Magic has levelled up to level 3!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Lava Magic has levelled up twice to level 10!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Lava Magic has evolved into Intermediate Lava Magic!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Wind Magic has levelled up thrice to level 10!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Wind Magic has evolved into Intermediate Wind Magic!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Water Magic has levelled up thrice to level 10!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Water Magic has evolved into Intermediate Water Magic!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)'s Basic Ice Magic has levelled up thrice to level 8!]

['Yuxia (★★★★)' has obtained the skill, 'Basic Lightning Magic'!]

I could not help but sigh amazedly at the elementalist's sorcery.

I had never seen a mage handling so many high level elemental runes at once before.

So delicate. So powerful. So precise.

My eyes watched in adoration as they observed Yuxia wielded those threads of mana.

"Such mastery in the uses of the 2nd and the 6th Barrachian Formulas. Aside from the Crown Princess, the last mage who successfully crafted these many combination runes at once was said to be the Great Bromstead herself."

I spoke out loud.

I went on while pointing to particular parts of the threads.

"Tell me, Yuxia, how did you find the idea to use Vesta Differential Method to find the correct value of the Jamaga Denominator? And how did you discover Garelda Factorial can be used to simplify and generalize the Barrachian Formulas?"

Those were Sixth Circle formulas. I had not yet taught him any of these high level mental instruments.

Yuxia flinched at my questions.

"Is that what I'm doing? Honestly, I'm just going by my instinct right now. I just thought it was the right thing to do."

My pupil said.

His face soon turned regretful.

"I'm sorry, Serafina. I know that I shouldn't cast my spell blindly if I want to be a proper mage."

I smiled at his response.

A true wildling indeed.

In practice, those Sixth Circle formulas would not be very effective to cast low level spells.

Like using a shovel to collect water from the river instead using a bucket.

That was why wildlings typically would have their growth stunted.

They would instinctively discover an ineffective method for their magic and not knowing any better.

But since Yuxia had been 'educated,' he finally knew how to put his instinct to good use.

"It is fine to use your instinct as long as you eventually realize what you're doing and know how effective and efficient your action was."

"I see. Well then, Vallerynne, you're up!"

The elementalist turned to the enchanter next to him.

Vallerynne immediately extended her own hands toward Yuxia's.

I was so caught up in my fascination of Yuxia's sorcery that I forgot I was trying to stop them from killing us all.

But before I could speak a word of warning, the large threads Yuxia formed suddenly shifted toward Vallerynne's palms, surrendering to her control.

Mana transfer.

It was a technique I taught her of exchanging mana from one mage to another. Including taking mana from another mage.

The latter technique was controversial in the magical society.

Often used in emergency, if the other mage did not know mana transferring spell.

The casting could be a crime if no consent was given. Since it could be used as an assault technique.

But it was still a technique needed to be learned.

['Vallerynne (★★★)'s Mana Transfer has levelled up twice to level 3!]

The girl did really well transferring those elemental runes. Even the idea of such transfer.

Her traits of mana were not suitable to produce elemental magic. Just how an elemental mage would not be suitable to cast enchantments.

It was clever of her to make Yuxia create the complex elemental runes first so she could then combine them further using composite enchantment method.

Again, I was so fascinated by my pupil's brilliant technique that I forgot once more that what they were doing could end our lives right there and then.

Before I could stop Vallerynne, however, the large threads of mana quickly intertwined and transformed into glowing amorphous translucent matter.

['Vallerynne (★★★)'s Basic Enchantment has levelled up thrice to level 10!]

['Vallerynne (★★★)'s Basic Enchantment has evolved into Intermediate Enchantment!]

I gasped at the girl's sorcery.

Such intricacy. Such depth.

"Vallerynne, did you read somewhere that the Ralean Fractions can be applied in this manner? Inverting it so the elemental variables could be mirrored. Leading to a stable interaction among the volatile runes."

The wildling enchanter frowned at my question.

"I thought it's just make sense to do it this way. Isn't it an obvious method?"

I chuckled at her response.

"I believe you just solved a problem that the Anashta Household has been researching for a thousand years."

Vallerynne's eyes widened at my statement.

But she quickly wiped the astonishment away.

"Well, I don't really care if I just solved a million-year puzzle or not. What actually matters comes next."

The girl moved the glowing amorphous matter toward the mysterious subquest crystal on the enchantment pedestal.

The moment the shining matter made contact with the object, the crystal's entire surface began to pulse with ethereal light.

"Dear Goddesses…"

I whispered in wonder.

At that moment I saw the crystal's surface began to melt slowly. Disfiguring Like heated wax.

They did it!

My pupils found a way to process the mysterious crystal!

We could finally benefit from the subquest reward!

In the middle of my excitement, the glow suddenly disappeared and the melting process was halted.

I immediately turned to Vallerynne.

The girl was panting and sweating hard.

She was clearly spent from working with so much mana. Yuxia looked the same as well.

"Sorry. It's the first time I'm performing such a complicated spell. And I need Yuxia to keep supplying me with those combined elemental runes as I enchant the ore."

The enchanter said while gasping for air.

The elementalist next to her was out of breath too.

"I don't think I can cast any more magic for the rest of the day."

I smiled proudly at my students.

I walked closer to them and patted their shoulders.

"Do you know that, at this very moment, each of you would immediately be granted the title of High Mage in the Tower of Circle? Simply because of what you did in front of me just now."

Vallerynne and Yuxia gasped in surprise.

"Really?!"

"Only for that short trick?!"

I nodded to them.

"What you did were revolutionary. The High Mages of the Tower of Circle would flock to you to learn those techniques you just showed me."

I then turned to the sub-elemental mage standing beside them.

"The same degree of appreciation also goes to you, Matrias."

The middle-aged man's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Seriously? All I did was pointing out the synapses."

"Matrias, the reason magical engineering existed was because Zemarone Tadosin pointed out a spell could be casted on ores. You would be surprised how many Senior Disciples had been promoted to High Mages because they simply pointed out a simple fact."

I told him.

I went on as I gestured to the others.

"Without you pointing out the Jamaga Denominator as synapses, Yuxia probably would not know to identify those clusters of elemental equations. Vallerynne then would not recognize them as individual spells needed to be combined together."

The disheveled man's face brightened up upon my compliments.

He indeed had done wonders.

All three of them!

"You are no longer obligated for physical exercise every morning. And I won't be making you eat only potatoes to punish your failures from now on."

I declared to my pupils.

They all gasped in disbelief.

I went on.

"Our sorcery lessons will still continue, of course. But since the three of you have shown how wise all of you are, you may choose when to do your physical exercise. I'm sure you'll be responsible by keeping diligence on your own training. And it is improper to threaten a sorcerer who is worthy to hold the title of High Mage."

The three wildlings jumped excitedly.

"Oh this is amazing!"

"I won't have to worry about punishment anymore!"

"I can eat whatever I want!"

Well, I would move forward with their lessons and implement harsher magic exercises that they would wish eating only potatoes would be their biggest worry.

"I don't want to dampen your celebratory mood, but we need to continue working on this crystal. We need to make something of it before the third Quintal Trial"

I told my joyful pupils with urgent tone.

Yuxia and Vallerynne stared at me with exhausted eyes.

"Serafina, I don't think I can create all of those elemental runes again. At least for the rest of the day."

"Not saying I'm not tired, but I can't do anything without those elemental runes prepared."

I chuckled at their complaints.

I hovered my hands over the crystal and produced the same hundreds of mana threads Yuxia made earlier.

Instantly I aligned the threads together, forming fewer but larger threads.

Then I combined the large threads into glowing amorphous matter.

Upon contact with the matter, the crystal resumed glowing with ethereal light. The deformation resumed.

My pupils gaped at the sight of me replicating their incredible feats.

"It's going to take a while before we'll completely melt this entire crystal. Vallerynne, you'll help me. Yuxia, drink some mana potions so you can take over in a few hours. Matrias, start the simulations for the second grimoire formula."

The three wildlings looked at me in horror.

I could see it in their eyes.

They thought they had made a mistake solving the formula for me.

If they believed sleepless nights and torturous labor were awaiting them because of this revelation, then they were right.

As we always said in Fadrin...

'Sleep was for the weak and fatigue could be satisfied in the graves.'
