But before leaving, he had to go through a whole process where they registered his identity card and other things on the walls outside the city. It took 30 minutes.
He needed a unique registration card like this one for this type of thing. And even though it was fake, it was very difficult to tell in this day and age. They didn't have an authentic registration system, and illegal operations could easily forge their only one.
That's why there's a famous saying in this world: His identity tells you who he is, but his true identity proves it.
It refers to the fact that anyone can be fake, based on what you see, and it's only in difficult or special situations that they reveal who they really are.
It's clear that many people use fake identities from time to time.
The City of Velharthe, capital of the southern part of the empire, has roads connecting practically the entire empire. It is the most important city in the empire's economy, surpassing even the capital city itself.
It is surrounded by mountains in the background, which are shaped like large skeletons of ancient animals, enormous in size and with an amazing bone structure. These mountains serve as a natural source of protection against powerful beasts and strong winds that occasionally arrive. They also serve as a habitat for all kinds of beasts.
While the front and sides are dotted with small hills, villages, and extensive forests, natural dungeons and even beast villages gather to attack the great city occasionally.
Among these is a Swamp Forest to the northwest of the city called the Swamp Forest of Dry Bones. It is a relatively powerful and large natural dungeon connected to several other nearby dungeons. Entering it is dangerous, but hunting in the Small and Middle Wing is sufficient for people below level 50.
From the Advanced Wing and the Upper Wing onwards, many more powerful and daring beasts could kill a normal level 50 with one hit. Not to mention the rumored Fifth Wing, where only the most powerful dare to enter.
Louis was currently heading to that place and, naturally, was going to hunt in the Small and Middle Wings.
He had to walk for a full hour before arriving. By the time he arrived, it was already noon, but surprisingly, he didn't feel hungry. Perhaps he was so excited to experience this magical world that he could endure it.
As soon as he reached the edge of the swampy forest, he drew his weapon to be ready. He also prepared some spare bullets close at hand.
Then he began to venture inside.
His steps were soft but steady. Walking past the large trees, he observed his slightly darkened and gray surroundings.
Being a swampy forest, he had to be careful where he stepped, as he could fall into a swamp camouflaged by dry leaves falling from the trees. Furthermore, being a forest, the undead could hide among the trees.
However, this was a rather special forest, located at the bottom of a mountain. On the other side, there were a series of hills. Despite the swamps and trees, the forest was only a small part of something larger; most of this natural dungeon was a broad valley.
"I wonder how the undead got here. From the beasts? Although I think this valley used to be part of the fight zone between humans and beasts, maybe it's from both."
The sun's rays occasionally hit his body and clouded his eyes with light, but he kept his gaze forward and was ready to act.
He didn't have to wait too long to do so.
Suddenly, he heard movement to his right—something like bones crunching—which made him take a step to the left and aim directly there.
A small undead carrying a thick stick emerged from behind a tree, ready to attack him. It had ferocity on its expressionless face.
It jumped toward him quickly, and because it was so small, Louis had to lower his gun a little to aim at it. Then he fired.
*BANG*
The sound of the shot was accompanied by a powerful magical bullet with physical attributes that flew in a straight line, cutting off one of the undead's arms and slowing it down.
Louis was surprised that he had missed and only managed to sever the undead creature's unarmed hand. It continued its charge forward and struck him hard with the stick on his side.
The blow, which he thought would hurt, was withstood surprisingly well. It didn't affect him at all.
'Is it because of my high Vitality?' Although he thought about it, he aimed once more at its head and fired.
The shot was at point-blank range, so the bullet passed through its head, destroying its core, which was already visible to him, and scattering the rest of its bones across the floor.
Louis unconsciously brought his hand to where the stick had hit him to check that it didn't hurt.
Then he took a deep breath and looked at his gun.
'Powerful enough to kill one of these skeletons with one shot, but accurate enough to almost miss it at point-blank range,' he thought, mocking himself.
Now the question was how many stats these creatures had and how much experience they gave him. The System didn't tell him, so he had to keep hunting.
But there was a problem.
'I didn't realize that the Passive Energy drain per shot is too high. How many more shots can I fire with this skill? Three? Five? Maybe less than five...'
That was bad, but if he could stay in these hunting grounds and confirm that he could level up here, he could solve it with his fists. The problem was, how could he solve the fact that he could only fire about five shots every so often?
"Magic?" He looked at his system.
'Now that I think about it, Passive Energy is what I need to use to do these physical attribute attacks, but what is this Mana the System is telling me about? Mana was supposed to be associated with Mages, wasn't it? Could it be that I can shoot magic attribute bullets too?' Curious, he decided to give it a try.
