Chapter 311 - Chapter 309: Flying Thunder God vs. Kamui

The Flying Thunder God Technique... It was thought to be a lost art, one that no one else would ever master. After all, teachers like Minato-sensei only come around once in a generation. Look at the decades since the Second Hokage passed—Konoha may have seen its share of geniuses, but only one, the "Yellow Flash," could command the Flying Thunder God Technique.

When Minato-sensei was gone, it seemed the Flying Thunder God Technique might become a legend never again to see the light of day.

Because,

In the world he dreamed of, there would be no more wars, no more sacrifices. Jutsu, a tool created for killing, would have no place. All would live in peace, sleeping in the beauty of an eternal dream.

And yet,

Reality hit him like a slap in the face.

It made him realize that the world wasn't as easy to change as he thought.

"I was just testing the waters," Shisui said coldly, observing the two strangers before him. "But I never thought anyone would actually take the bait! And if I'm not mistaken, you're claiming to be Uchiha Madara?"

He looked intently at Uchiha Obito, the orange swirl mask, and that single Sharingan eye. The description matched what he had heard about "the guy calling himself Uchiha Madara" to a tee.

"To think you've mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique. This time, I was too careless."

Obito recognized his mistake.

It was a small oversight, really.

He hadn't considered the possibility that Uchiha Shisui would have learned the Flying Thunder God Technique… Or rather, it wasn't something one would usually consider. Instead of calling it negligence, it was more a failure of intelligence gathering.

If he'd known Shisui had mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique, he would've been better prepared.

Yes,

He had an unexpectedly troublesome problem on his hands.

The invisible battle had already begun the moment their gazes locked.

Shisui activated his Mangekyo Sharingan, wasting no time. Facing this strange, plant-like figure with a yin-yang face, and a man claiming to be Madara—whose true identity was unclear—he didn't hold back, unleashing his ace technique—

Kotoamatsukami

The Mangekyo Sharingan's ocular powers showed their might in that moment!

The invisible force of his ocular power subtly projected towards the yin-yang face.

Kotoamatsukami wasn't a mass hypnosis technique; it only affected one person at a time. Naturally, between the masked "Madara" and the strange creature, Shisui chose the easier target.

Regardless of whether the masked one was really Madara, according to the information from Zongxuan, the opponent had also activated his Mangekyo Sharingan.

After researching with Zongxuan and Elder Fugaku, they discovered that genjutsu techniques like "Kotoamatsukami," "Wood Flower Bloom," and "Ogre Root" seemed more subtle and harder to detect, and anyone who fell under their influence would find it difficult to escape.

However, when facing another Uchiha with the Mangekyo Sharingan, these ocular techniques were noticeably weakened. How much they weakened depended on the opponent's strength.

About a year ago, they conducted a secret experiment where Shisui and Zongxuan took turns facing Fugaku's "Ogre Root."

In the end, Shisui took a minute and a half to break free. As for Zongxuan's results… he couldn't even be sure if Zongxuan was ever affected in the first place. Though Zongxuan awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan later, he had somehow surpassed Shisui.

So, based on this research, he thought targeting the masked Madara would yield limited results, which is why he chose the yin-yang face, deciding to capture at least one target first.

But—

"Trying to rewrite my will? Hey, that's cheating! I'm calling foul—someone's using hacks!" White Zetsu shouted, his voice lively and defiant.

At the same time, a look of shock crossed Shisui's face.

He'd failed! His Kotoamatsukami hadn't affected the creature at all. This plant-like entity had a mental structure beyond anything he'd seen before. Twisted, heavy, dark… he didn't even have the words to describe it.

No, it wasn't the mind of a human.

It was a monster.

A true monster.

This wasn't an exaggeration of its power but a statement of reality.

"What… what are you?" Shisui asked.

"Honestly, your ocular powers are something else… Madara, be careful. This kid's power can alter a person's will. Even you, if you're not careful, could get caught by it," Black Zetsu warned.

"Alter someone's will?"

Obito narrowed his eyes.

The ability was terrifying, though Black Zetsu was Madara's creation, stemming from the Rinnegan's power, a being whose essence surpassed the Mangekyo Sharingan. Ignoring all non-physical ocular attacks was well within its capabilities.

Uchiha Style: Halo Dance

His will, forged through countless battles, was unshaken even by a failed ace move. Since genjutsu seemed ineffective, he could simply use other methods. While genjutsu was his specialty, let's not forget his title—Shisui of the Body Flicker!

In a blink, three blazing blades of fire slashed toward Zetsu from different directions.

"So fast! No wonder you mastered the Flying Thunder God. Shisui of the Body Flicker, truly living up to your reputation!" Obito exclaimed, genuine admiration in his voice. But he wasn't there to spectate. The Sharingan's tomoe spun so quickly they almost blurred.

"Got you!" he murmured.

Simultaneously, he unleashed a pre-prepared attack.

Wood Style: Thorns of Death

Vines sprang from the floor and walls like serpents, weaving into a cage around Shisui, who was still in motion after attacking. The vines closed in, forming a tightening prison.

"Didn't work?"

The cage constricted, meeting no resistance, as though nothing were inside.

In fact, nothing was inside.

"Flying Thunder God… It's troublesome," Obito muttered, his regret minimal. This outcome was within his expectations, but the blade now protruding from his chest made him feel a long-forgotten chill.

His killing intent rose.

Uchiha Shisui had to be dealt with.

Over the years, his greatest asset in battles across the ninja world had been Kamui, a space-time jutsu that rendered him almost untouchable. Though Uchiha Zongxuan had once caught him off guard, he'd escaped using Kamui.

But the Flying Thunder God was different.

This space-time jutsu could counter Kamui, a fact Minato-sensei had engraved into him with the Rasengan. Only his transplanted White Zetsu limbs had given him the strength to survive.

Now, seeing the blade in his chest, he felt a surge of trepidation. He had to eliminate Uchiha Shisui. Konoha's forces were occupied with Beiruhu's attack, keeping other high-ranking shinobi busy and reducing the likelihood of Shisui fleeing.

It was like the time he unleashed the Nine-Tails and forced Minato-sensei to sacrifice himself for the village.

This situation,

While different, presented an opportunity to achieve the same outcome.

People who could use the Flying Thunder God were best off dead.

"Wood Style and space-time jutsu… exactly as Zongxuan described!" Shisui said from the ceiling, fingers twitching to summon his flying blade. "Madara or not, I won't let you run free in Konoha. I'll get justice for the Barrier Corps!"

In the next moment,

An intense battle broke out.

Flying Thunder God and Kamui—

Two space-time techniques clashed in brilliant display within the confined room.

Neither used large-scale jutsu, as both knew the futility of such attacks on an opponent proficient in space-time techniques. Trying would only waste chakra.

Of course, Obito wasn't stingy with chakra.

He simply didn't want to draw undue attention. Though Konoha was bound to notice the fight, causing too much commotion would only speed things up, and curious shinobi might come and get in the way.

Shisui's reason for avoiding larger jutsu was straightforward.

To conserve chakra, Uchiha Obito, who had implanted nearly half of his body with White Zetsu cells, had to be cautious. His chakra reserves weren't vast, and even after injecting the stabilizing solution provided by Zong Xian to keep his Mangekyo Sharingan under control, his chakra levels still hadn't significantly increased.

The only way to recklessly unleash chakra would be to borrow the power of Samehada.

"It's useless; your blade will never reach me!" Uchiha Obito taunted Shisui with cold disdain, mocking his futile effort. While he spoke, a sharp wooden spike in his hand drove down into the wall, leaving a deep circular hole reminiscent of the wounds on the necks of the dead members of the Barrier Corps.

Using Kamui and this very spike, Obito had effortlessly slaughtered all thirty-seven members of the Barrier Corps, leaving them no chance to send out a single message.

"Who are you trying to scare? No technique is impossible to counter. Just like you erased the markings I left, your space-time jutsu must have a weakness as well. It just hasn't been exposed yet." Shisui's unwavering resolve was not something Obito could shake with words.

"Is that so? Let's see if you have the skill to find it!"

"I will."

Their voices echoed within the room.

But their forms were nowhere to be seen; only two blurred shadows dashed through the room like lightning. If this were nighttime, the flashing silhouettes would look like a ghostly encounter. Shisui was fighting at full power, pushing the Flying Thunder God Technique to its limits in his attempts to land a hit on Obito.

It had to be said: compared to that night during the Nine-Tails' rampage, Obito had grown much stronger! His command over Kamui had become second nature. Back then, his battle with the Fourth Hokage lasted only a few exchanges before Minato discovered Kamui's flaw, forcing Obito to endure a Rasengan.

Now, however, he'd been sparring with Shisui for a full two and a half minutes. They'd exchanged hundreds of blows, yet Shisui had yet to glimpse victory's elusive allure.

It wasn't due to Shisui's lack of skill—Obito had simply not remained stagnant over the years.

"They're fighting so intensely! They're moving so fast that my eyes can hardly keep up," White Zetsu mumbled in complaint.

This giant pitcher-plant-faced figure wasn't going to be defeated by Shisui's probing "Uchiha Style: Solar Halo Dance." After Obito attracted Shisui's attention, White Zetsu had used the Mayfly Technique to hide within a three-story cherry tree outside, peeking out to observe the fierce combat between the two Uchiha.

"Uchiha Shisui… Another troublesome guy? For once… Madara can't seem to gain the upper hand," Black Zetsu grumbled with irritation. Unlike the carefree White Zetsu, Black Zetsu held a deep-seated frustration.

He regretted not persuading Obito to eliminate the Uchiha clan during the chaos of the Nine-Tails' attack. The Uchiha were an unstable element in his plans; over millennia of observing and recording, Black Zetsu had found that they often posed unforeseen obstacles, causing his plans to unravel several times.

Especially two centuries ago, when he had his best chance of success before Madara's time.

But it had been thwarted by a woman named Uchiha Jiri, who created Izanami, a forbidden jutsu specifically countering Izanagi. The Uchiha he believed most likely to awaken the Rinnegan fell to her in that moment.

Unfortunately, the Shinobi World has no cure for regret.

Even his mother, the Rabbit Goddess, could not reverse the past. Otherwise, she wouldn't have remained sealed for a thousand years by her two unfilial sons.

"This time, no matter what, I cannot afford failure…"

Black Zetsu furrowed his half-brow, contemplating how to help Obito break the stalemate. Yet, no matter how hard he racked his brain, he couldn't find a way through. He wasn't about to reveal his trump card to help Obito claim victory.

"Tch, I'll just have to watch!"

After thinking it over, there was simply nothing he could do.

At this moment, it seemed that waiting was his only option. This was not his time to step forward yet. With a patience honed over a thousand years, he suppressed his irritation and waited for the outcome to unfold.

After all,

the worst case would be Obito's death.

This would hinder his plans, of course, but with Nagato and the Rinnegan, all was not lost. As long as Nagato could use the Rinne Rebirth Jutsu to resurrect Madara from the underworld, their plans could still proceed smoothly.

That would be the worst-case scenario, though.

Obito wouldn't die so easily!
