Chapter 22 - The Premier Arrives

The captain was powerful but he was truly unprepared for this level of power. He ended up using his great power against his own people. He even killed some of them. At this moment, a figure tore through the sky with unending power. This was the Premier. He had done his best but he had still only arrived after everything went to hell.

The moment he reached the place above the capital, he just waved his hand and the soldiers were covered in a warm power that removed the mind control that they had been under. The Premier looked at the soldiers and the captain who was shaken by what he had done. He looked down and on the street below he could see five of his soldiers dead. They had been torn apart by his own power. He could not believe what he was seeing. He hoped that he was now within a nightmare and where he had been earlier was reality. Just a few seconds back he had been fighting against the arrogant Draugr and he was winning. The people in the city were cheering for his victory. Now that he was seeing reality, he did not want it to be reality since it was too cruel. These were his men. People he had trusted and fought with for over a century and now they were dead at his own hands. These men had families and he had visited their homes. He knew their wives and their children. He knew their dreams and their worst fears. These men were closer to him than his own family was.

He looked at his spear that was covered in blood. He then saw his now red armour. This was the blood of his brothers. He removed the helmet and vomited his guts out. The city was silent. Everyone looked at the man and they could feel his pain.

When he was done emptying his stomach, the captain looked at Hildr. Even though the Premier stood between the two of them, in the captain's eyes, only Hildr existed. He wanted to kill her. He wanted her to see hell. He wanted her to know his pain. He no longer cared about enforcing the laws. Right now, he wanted blood and nothing else. He looked at the sky and he was about to cry out before attacking when the Premier appeared behind the man and knocked him out.

The Premier would have loved to use this man's anger to kill the Cursed Princess but he decided not to do so since the captain was no match for Hildr. Even if he transformed into his true form, a form that demanded fear and respect from the masses, this was the Draugr Princess. A thing of darkness and evil. She would tear through as though he was nothing and to make matters worse, she would not be held accountable for killing him since this would be self-defence.

A few seconds later, more guards appeared and with the Premier's command, they carried away the captain and escorted his men away.

"I welcome you to our fair city. May I know the reason for your visit," the Premier spoke in a cordial tone that hid a great anger. He wanted more than anything to kill this arrogant girl and he had enough power to do so with ease but her father was a different story. King Harald was one of the oldest if not the oldest child of the night still around on the mortal plane. This was enough to show how powerful he was. Killing Hildr, his heir and only love, would be the start of a war that would never come to an end until there were seas of blood all over the continent.

Hildr sensed a little animosity from the Premier but this feeling was so faint and it disappeared so fast that she did not place too much mind on it. "I am here to join Argonaut Academy," she replied after giving the Premier a little bow as a form of greeting.

The Premier was surprised by this but he said nothing. He turned around and looked at the people in the city. "Princess Hildr is the Crown Princess of the Draugr and also heir to the position of the Night King. Under the laws set forth by the Soul King, she can indeed fly above the capital without being stopped for any kind of violation. It was our misunderstanding that has led to this chaos and we ask for the forgiveness and understanding of our fellow subjects," he said.

The Premier was very good with his words. He was even apologizing to the people yet he had personally done nothing to apologize for. The people calmed down and even seemed to look at the Premier with even more fanaticism. Since they had never seen the Soul King, the Premier was taken as the symbol of the prosperity that filled the land.

The Premier invited Hildr for a visit to his office but she politely turned him down claiming that she had to attend the assembly at the academy. Her politeness caught the Premier off guard. He had thought her too arrogant and prideful to be polite even to those more powerful than she was but he now understood that he had to reevaluate his thinking on her.

Hildr returned to the carriage and disappeared in the distance. As all this was happening, many figures were watching in the dark. This included a figure that was covered in a dark cloak. This person was seated inside an elegant restaurant. His face could not be seen but his power was evident to those that were powerful enough to notice him. To most people in the restaurant, this man did not even exist. He was too powerful for them to even see.

"Interesting," he said after Hildr left. He had sensed her power and for some reason, he felt that his boring life would no longer be so grey.
