Chapter 75 - Oceanic War! pt 3

William barely had time to react, raising his arms just in time to intercept a tentacle hurtling from the shadowy depths. The impact hit him with the force of a freight train, sending him careening backward through the water. Angry red welts immediately appeared where the kraken's suckers had latched onto his skin.

BOOM!

BLBLBLBLBLBLBL!

The water churned violently as his body collided with a glowing pink barrier, Eve's creation. Her brow was furrowed in intense concentration as she maintained it. Through the distortion, their eyes met; William gave her a quick nod before planting his feet firmly against the shimmering construct.

The barrier groaned ominously, cracks splintering outward like spiderwebs as he crouched low, muscles coiling in preparation.

Beyond him, Rain grappled with the kraken's massive bulk, twin chains tightly wrapped around two of its writhing limbs. The hooks embedded deeply into its flesh, tearing vicious wounds that healed almost as quickly as they were inflicted.

Eve sprang forward, conjuring colossal pink clamps to restrain more tentacles, but each device shattered within moments, forcing her to summon replacements in rapid succession.

"All this, and it's still coming!" Eve shouted, her voice strained with effort.

The kraken's immense form loomed over the chaotic battlefield. Hundreds of Atlantean soldiers swarmed around it, their formations dissolving like sand swept away by a tide. Behind the barrier, terrified civilians huddled together, their last defense against imminent destruction.

With unsettling precision, the kraken twisted several of its limbs into a massive spear, drawing it back in preparation for a devastating strike.

Then—

CRRKK!

The sound of something shattering echoed ominously behind it. Its head snapped around, eyes narrowing as a distant orange glow carved through the murky depths.

The glow intensified.

BOOM!

CRASH!

William was suddenly there. One moment, the glow was distant; the next, he was mere inches from the creature's enormous eye, his fist already rocketing forward. The kraken's pupils contracted in a split second before—

BLORB! PUCHI!

A shockwave rippled outward as his knuckles burst through the gelatinous surface, plunging straight into the vulnerable inner core.

SKREEEEEEEEEEEE!

The piercing scream reverberated through the water like an underwater quake. Tentacles thrashed wildly, smashing coral formations and scattering bodies in chaotic spirals through the current.

William pressed on. He drove himself deeper, his fists landing unrelenting blows on the monstrous skull beneath the eye.

POW!

POW!

POW!

Each strike widened the cracks, splintering bone and cartilage under his ferocious assault. Outside, the kraken's agony propelled its frenzied thrashing, a massive limb obliterating a swarm of corrupted sea creatures, reducing them to drifting remnants.

"Rain! Now!" William bellowed.

Chains snapped taut. Rain heaved with all his strength, dragging the creature's head downward, exposing more of its skull. Eve's clamps re-engaged, locking with unyielding force.

For a fleeting moment, the battlefield froze in fragile equilibrium, the beast restrained, William's fist poised for one final destructive strike.

Then he unleashed it.

The blow detonated against the kraken's skull, sending fractures racing across its surface like lightning splintering glass.

The fractures across the kraken's skull splintered into jagged, glowing fissures, its internal bioluminescence seeping through like molten lava beneath cracked stone. A deep, guttural tremor resonated from its massive form, more a raw, vibrating force than a roar, an emanation of something ancient and malevolent.

Then, it moved.

The colossal beast convulsed, its remaining tentacles thrashing in a violent cyclone of chaos. Eve's clamps disintegrated into shimmering fragments, Rain's chains snapped free, and the entire ocean seemed to writhe and churn in rebellion against the sheer force. William was hurled backward but managed to right himself mid-spin, his gaze fixing unyieldingly on the creature's head.

It should have been dying.

It was dying.

But death had driven it to madness.

Its solitary, surviving eye blazed with unbridled fury, and in a flash of blinding speed, one massive limb coiled back, then shot forward with the precision and force of a harpoon.

William barely had time to comprehend the movement before—

SHHK-KRUNCH!

The spear-like tentacle tore through his torso with brutal force, propelling him backward until his body collided with the jagged surface of a fractured coral wall. Bubbles streamed from his lips in a silent, anguished gasp as searing pain radiated through his core, a crimson cloud blossoming into the water around him.

"WILLIAM!" Eve's cry was muffled and warped by the ocean's embrace, her voice distant and distorted.

The kraken loomed ever closer, hauling him along its writhing appendage until his face hovered mere feet from its enormous, hate-filled eye. The light within it flickered not solely from weakness, but from a fierce, unyielding defiance, as though it sought to drag him into the abyss alongside it.

William's vision blurred, the edges darkening as his chest burned with the desperate need for air. His hands gripped the slick, barnacle-encrusted limb, blood trickling between his fingers. Yet, even as the shadows encroached and his strength waned, he summoned his resolve and pushed back.

The kraken's eye widened in surprise, too late.

CRRRKKK!

With a guttural roar that echoed through the depths, William twisted the monstrous limb, his grip forcing bones and sinew to snap under the strain.

With a surge of desperate strength, his hand shot upward, gripping the creature's skull just above the shattered eye. Summoning every ounce of power left within him, he drove his fist into it one final time.

The impact was catastrophic.

Cracks erupted outward in a radiant web of glowing fissures, spilling light like molten fire into the surrounding water. The kraken convulsed violently, its massive limbs twitching feebly before falling limp.

Its eye dimmed.

The malice drained away.

And finally… the light extinguished.

The monstrous tentacle slid free from William's body, leaving him adrift in the quaking, debris-filled waters. The colossal corpse of the kraken began its slow descent into the abyss, its immense shadow disappearing into the endless black.

William's breaths came in ragged gasps, a mix of blood and bubbles escaping with each exhale. Yet he stayed upright, his gaze fixed on the void until the last trace of the beast vanished into the darkness.

The hole in William's torso sealed almost instantaneously once the tentacle was removed. He exchanged a resolute nod with Eve and Rain before all three redirected their focus to the battlefield, where countless Atlanteans fought bravely, sacrificing their lives to defend their homeland.

"Let's move!" William commanded, propelling himself toward the chaos of explosions and combat.

Rain and Eve followed closely, flanking him on either side in a delta-shaped formation as they advanced with unwavering determination.

Nearby, an Atlantean struggled frantically against a mutated turtle, its massive jaws snapping mere inches from his head in a relentless bid to claim its prey. As the Atlantean braced himself for the inevitable, a strange gurgling noise drew his attention upward.

A shimmering pink cube had materialized, lodged firmly in the creature's mouth, preventing it from closing its powerful jaws. The turtle thrashed violently, its short limbs flailing uselessly as it tried to dislodge the obstruction.

The Atlantean exhaled in relief, his terror giving way to awe as the pink cube began to expand, forcing the creature's jaws even wider. The sound of splintering bones echoed ominously across the battlefield.

CRACK!

With a gruesome snap, the turtle's head split apart, its jaw shattered. The pink cube, now significantly larger, floated serenely in midair, a stark contrast to the carnage below.

William and Rain exchanged uneasy glances, each swallowing hard as they took in the sight. William instinctively rubbed his neck, shaken by the display.

The battlefield roiled with unrelenting chaos. Shattered coral and drifting debris littered the jagged terrain, but no civilians were at immediate risk, only Atlantean soldiers and corrupted sea creatures locked in a desperate struggle for survival.

William's chest ached where the kraken's tentacle had pierced him, though his regenerative core had already sealed the wound. Ignoring the lingering pain, he surged forward, his fists blazing with fiery orange light.

"Rain! Hold the eastern flank!" he commanded, his eyes scanning the pandemonium.

Rain's chains lashed through the water like serpents, ensnaring a massive, mutated turtle that lunged toward a distracted soldier. With a powerful tug, he wrenched it off balance and slammed it into a coral outcrop, the impact cracking its armored shell.

Eve's constructs morphed fluidly, forming and dissolving pink clamps and cages as she immobilized writhing tentacles, buying just enough time for the soldiers to reposition and strike.

Amid the fray, William spotted a corrupted leviathan plowing through the battlefield, its limbs cutting down soldiers with deadly precision. He propelled himself toward it, his fists igniting as he collided mid-swim. Each blow unleashed bursts of energy that rippled outward, scattering smaller creatures and forcing the leviathan to retreat.

Rain moved in sync, pinning another tentacle-wrapped behemoth to the ocean floor with his chains. The cacophony of clashing metal and monstrous roars reverberated through the water as William's and Rain's coordinated strikes carved out brief moments of safety for the soldiers to regroup and counterattack.

Eve's pink clamps intercepted a swarm of smaller mutated tentacles, pinning them firmly against a fractured coral spire. "Keep pushing!" she urged the soldiers, forming shimmering energy barriers to redirect the most dangerous predators away from the advancing line.

William's sharp eyes identified a new threat, a secondary kraken, smaller than the first but still immense, its glowing eye radiating pure malice. Without hesitation, he rocketed toward it, delivering a barrage of rapid, powerful blows to its armored head, sending shockwaves rippling through the water.

Rain flanked him, her chains coiling tightly around the creature's limbs, holding it in place as William unleashed a relentless assault. Eve's constructs bolstered their efforts, deploying clamps and cages to immobilize the creature's tentacles, giving the soldiers an opening to strike at its exposed weak points.

The second kraken roared in fury, thrashing violently, but the team's coordinated assault was merciless. William's fiery fists shattered its scales, Rain's chains tore through its sinewy muscles, and Eve's energy constructs maintained control of the battlefield, ensuring the creature couldn't reach the soldiers.

As the water churned with energy, the creature's movements grew sluggish, deep fissures forming along its armored body. William's eyes burned brighter, orange light reflecting through the murky depths as he prepared for the decisive final strike, a blow to eliminate the secondary kraken and secure the soldiers' dominance on the battlefield.

As the heroes from the surface and the soldiers of Atlantis fought relentlessly, consumed by the chaos of battle, a figure moved with calculated and unwavering purpose toward the gleaming beacon of Atlantis. A cold, insatiable, and oppressive light glimmered in his eyes as he drew closer, his presence casting a foreboding shadow over the tumult.

The figure entered a secluded section of the ocean, dimly lit by the gentle radiance of bioluminescent kelp and the darting movements of luminous fish. Finally, his form came into view, a middle-aged Atlantean exuding authority, his hands folded neatly behind his back, evoking the demeanor of a wise and venerable sage.

Extending his hands forward, the enigmatic Atlantean unleashed another wave, even larger and more powerful than before, sending it crashing into the battlefield. Swarms of corrupted and grotesquely mutated sea creatures surged toward the distant light, their forms twisted and menacing.

A smile spread across the Atlantean's face as he watched the carnage unfold: an Atlantean soldier ripped apart by a monstrous squid, while another fell prey to a pack of ravenous, shark-like creatures, their ferocity unmatched.

William surged forward, weaving deftly between thrashing tentacles and shards of coral, his focus unwavering on the battle before him. His fists blazed with molten orange light, each strike a brilliant streak against the corrupted leviathans and mutated sea creatures. Rain moved fluidly beside him, her chains slicing through the water with deadly precision, while Eve's pink constructs immobilized the most dangerous threats, granting the soldiers precious moments to regroup.

The battlefield was a maelstrom of chaos. Flashes of energy clashed with jagged coral, creating shockwaves that splintered nearby rocks. Muffled, distorted screams echoed through the water, mingling with the sounds of armored shells cracking and sinewy limbs being torn apart. William pushed forward, his fists igniting with every swing, leaving fiery trails in the murky depths.

Yet unease prickled at the edges of his awareness. Something felt wrong. The currents shifted unnaturally around him, subtle at first, a faint tug in the water, an oppressive weight pressing through the turbulence.

He shook his head, forcing himself to concentrate. "Focus," he muttered under his breath. "The threat is here… right in front of me."

But the sensation intensified. The water grew heavier, thicker, almost suffocating. It wasn't the corrupted creatures or the remnants of the kraken; it was something else, something unseen and ominous.

William slowed his movements, his sharp eyes scanning the chaotic battlefield. The Leviathan he had been chasing faltered, recoiling as if it too sensed the invisible presence. Its thrashing ceased abruptly. Beside him, Rain and Eve exchanged puzzled glances, their fluid motions stilled by the same inexplicable force.

A chill ran down William's spine. His orange flames flickered erratically, coiling tighter against the oppressive force, as though bracing for an encounter with something far beyond anything they had faced before.

The currents twisted and churned around him, yet no figure emerged. No shape, no movement, only the oppressive weight of the ocean, as though it harbored a malevolent heartbeat deep within.

William's instincts flared with urgency. He felt it now, every nerve attuned to the encroaching threat: something dark was nearing. Not the monsters he had been battling relentlessly, not the chaos that had surrounded him for what felt like ages. This presence was entirely different.

Gradually, almost imperceptibly, the shadow advanced. The corrupted creatures seemed to sense it as well, halting mid-attack, their bioluminescent glow dimming in deference to the unseen force. Even the currents seemed to retreat, unwilling to carry such a weight any closer.

Then, for the first time, William's eyes widened, not at what he could see but at what he could feel. The water pulsed with a calculated, icy intent, suffocating and purposeful in its approach.

A silent, bone-deep chill whispered through his being: someone, or something, was coming. Not to battle the kraken, not to engage the soldiers, but to confront him directly.

William clenched his fists, the flames around him flaring with defiance. "I know you're there," he growled into the abyss, his voice cutting through the suffocating stillness. "Show yourself!"

For an agonizingly long moment, the water remained utterly still. The currents froze. The cacophony of battle faded into silence, replaced by a thick, unbearable tension.

Then, a ripple broke the stillness, a movement so deliberate, so controlled, that it could only belong to something unnatural. William's eyes followed it, and for the first time, he truly felt the villain's presence crystallize in his awareness.

The ocean's darkness seemed to gather with purpose, cold and intentional, pressing toward a single point. William's chest constricted as his instincts roared louder than ever: the enemy had arrived. He didn't need to see the figure to know. The oppressive weight, the malevolence, the relentless intent, it was all palpable.

Something dreadful, something beyond human, was heading straight for him.

And this time, he wouldn't just be battling monsters.

He would be facing him.
