Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 40:

It has been three days, and Tamar's mom has yet to see her husband. She asked for a phone and called her husband, and to her dismay, a female voice was what she heard. She was beyond enraged, and she barked, "Give the damn phone to my husband." "He's in the bathroom." Just give him the phone, and I promise I will sign the divorce papers." She then heard the man's voice, "She finally came to her senses."

She did not go into details because she knew that with her husband's connections, he already knew everything, so she said, "Help me win the case, and we are done." "Oh, so your man didn't acknowledge you. What a pity. I never loved you too; you were so good in that area that I couldn't let go, but I found a better one now." She took in all the humiliation because she needed help, but in her mind, she was strangling him.

The taunting went on for a few minutes, then closed with, "You will hear from my lawyers tomorrow, as I want full custody of my daughter, but don't worry, I will give you half my property for all the years we shared a bed." The phone was hung up before she could say further. The following day, she had a visitor. She thought about the lawyer, but to her surprise, it was the man who had wanted her for ages, but she rejected him because she was in love with somebody else.

He had a son through surrogacy but remained unmarried. She smiled sadly and said, " Hello, long time no see. What are you doing here?" I'm here to bail you out, of course. I asked for a favor from a friend of mine, and she dropped all the charges. Thank God you did not kill anyone. She said you are lucky you did not kill her mother, and your schemes helped her meet her husband; or else I wouldn't be able to get you out. Of course the others were against it, but she has power over all of them; she couldn't be defied.

Tears she never knew she had passed for over five minutes, as the patient man consoled her. She finally spoke, "I was blinded by greed all this time. I always said I was in love with him, but deep down I knew I wanted both his love and his wealth. I was so obsessed that I couldn't accept defeat by the unknown woman, so I made one mistake after the other. I learnt my mistake too late."

Mr. Leo smiled and said, "It's not too late; you still have time for penance. Just promise me that you will change for the better." She cried out loud and hugged him for her dear life; she wasted her life chasing love when love was near her all this time. "After every unfair treatment I gave you, you are the one to save me in times of need. My husband is somewhere with his new mistress, and I can't blame him because I brought it upon myself."

"Please, find it in your heart to forgive me for all injustices I did to you." Talking of obsession, Leo knew he was just like her, so he couldn't judge her. He loved her too much and could not see her cry; he was heartbroken by her attitude towards him, but his patience had paid off. The only difference between them was that he was an honest man, so he said, "Don't thank me yet; I have my ulterior motives for saving you."

He then removed the divorce papers from his briefcase and handed them to her as he said, "He already signed them long ago. I already went through them; apart from the businesses he hid from you, he divided everything else fairly. He also wanted full custody of your daughter, but Tamar insisted she wanted to go with yo;, she will occasionally go see her dad."

Tamar's mother signed the papers without reading. She was very tired, and as she was given a second chance, she had to do something for herself this time: no greed, obsession, or competition, but pure happiness. They finished the process, and she was let fre. Outsidee, she saw Havillah and her husband. She didn't know how to face her, but she had to thank he,r so she went and plopped right on her knees.

Havillah helped her up and said, "No need to thank ;e, thank Mr. Leo. You have been given a second chance; use it well." She then entered her car and left. Mr. Leo said, "That's the most kindhearted girl I have ever met. We met by chance back then an she has helped more than I her, but she still did me this favor without asking for anything in return. Thank God that it is her and not her husband you crossed, or you'd surely rot in jail. Get in the car; I will take you home."

She rejected the offer and said, I have no home,;I'm already divorced, and I don't want to go back to myex-husband'ss home." Then come live with me,;if you find it boring after a few days, I will buy you a new place." Okay," she agreedaty first. She had to put herself first this time, no hatred or anything negative attached, but pure happiness. "Then let's go help you pack up."

They reached Tamar's home soon and found her eex-husbandcuddling with the mistress. Tamar was also there enjoying her food as if nobody was there with her. She had come to terms with everything and vowed to care for her man. She didn't want to repeat her mom's mistakes. She had started just like her mom, but witnessing everything her mom went through made her gcometo her senses.

She already confessed everything to her fiancé, and he forgave her. He was also a playboy but was now a changed man who was in love with her. Their wedding is set three months after her delivery.

The mistress saw Tamar's mom and smirke. Shee said, "Honey, they are here." He looked at her and said mockingly, "I was planning on coming to get you tomorrow, but did you get my lawyer's letters?" Tamar's mom did not feel hurt anymore because she brought everything upon herself, so she gave him the already signed papers and went upstairs to pack. Mr. Leowas waiting for her.

Both men looked at each other threateningly; it made the mistress have goosebumps. She was so jealous as she could feel the man still had feelings for his ex-wife; he was only threatening her to change, not expecting her to sign freely. Tamar's dad could also not believe that the wwealth-centeredwoman left everything so easily. He believed that no sane woman would reject his wealth. He had several mistresses and loved none.

If she agreed, so be it; the only thing that pained him was that his daughter chose to go with her mother. He understood her; no girl would want to be around her father, who changes women like clothes. He was lucky she did not reject hi,m and they would be seeing each other anytim,e and hisoon-to-be-bornrn grandchild.

After some minutes, she came down with one suitcase. Mr. Leo asked, "Is this all you want? "Yes." " Then let's go." "Mom, are you for rea? Where ise some of your stuff?" She couldn't believe that her mother, who loved fashion and glamou,r packed just a suitcase. "Just give me the addre; I'llll send everything over to you when I come over." "No need. I'm okay with this. In fact, help me donate everything else to charity. See you later." Then she left.

Silence filled the mansion as everybody, maids included, couldn't believethat itt was their madam. How did she change so fast? Only Tamar knew that, deep down, her mom was a good perso. Shee also didn't understand the obsession she had over Havilla's mom and dad; anything about them woke the sleeping demon inside her. Hopefully, this time the demon died and will never wake up.

Tamar's dad, on the other han,d was silent as he watched his wife leave with another m. Hehe was a man, and he could see that man cared for and loved her deeply. he had always known about Mr. Leo and the love he had for his wife, but he never interfered. He wondered how strong his love was to be able to endure everything, seeing the love of his life stay and even give birthtor another man. He knew he couldn't

He sighed deeply and removed the mistress's hands from his waist and went upstairs. Ooh! Big mistake; he left his phone, and it rang. The mistress looked and was shocked to see 'sweetheart' calling. She thought Tamar's mom had a second thought and wanted to come bac,k so she received the call gleeful;y, she wanted to rub salt in her wounds for leaving all the wealth.

Lo! The sound was completely different. The caller said, "Hey babes, has the woman left? Let's meet up tonight at our usual place, love you, mwah". Emotional damage; she was so shocked she couldn't speak. She had even put the phone on loudspeaker to let Tamar hear her mom beg. Don't always count your chickens before they hatch. Just how many ladies knew that the man was gettinga divorce?

He even saved her as 'sweetheart,' meaning her position is held by another woman. After the call, she must check and see how she is saved to be sure of her place. The caller did not hear any respons,e so she guessed that maybe the wifhadas not left yet. She whispered, 'I'll be waiting, bab,y" and cancelled. She then sent him a text message reminding him of their meeting.

She already knew he was a womaniz,er but not like t. Sheshe tried calling her number, as shehads saved it as 'sweet'. What the hell is sweet? She deleted the call logs and returned the phone as if nothing happened, but deep inside, she was fuming and already planning oow to lure this man to give her part of his wealth.
