"I can't let you go."
Xavier raised an eyebrow, his voice laced with curiosity. "What? You went to ask for money, so how did it come to this?" 'His mind raced. Could it be that he discovered I was bluffing?'
Dominic shook his head, his voice tight. "No, no. I don't mean that. They all agreed to the money. It's already been transferred to me."
Xavier's gaze sharpened. "So why can't you let me go?"
Dominic's jaw tightened. "I have to find someone else in your stead. I can't just let you go and write in the report that we arrested the wrong guy. The case is already listed as solved."
Xavier shrugged, his voice indifferent. "I missed the part where that's my problem." He leaned back, his tone mocking. "Why should I care? I want out."
